Post match: Arsenal v Liverpool (EPL 27/10/24 4.30pm)

Arsenal fans convinced Taylor is bent…

Has there ever been a referee that is so universally accused of corruption by all fan bases?

Must be doing something right then.

I’ve always had him down more as blind than bent.

He’s an ok ref who fucks up.

Take him over 4-5 of them.

What injuries did Arsenal have? Two going in, we had two starters too.

Likelihood if fit Elliott would have played some point.

This academic study from Harvard proves Arsenal fans are correct in their suspicions after all. :flushed:

And?
He has history against Liverpool.

But, keep on convincing yourself that everything is fair and equal.
And keep on quoting supporters of other clubs in your quest to prove equity.

It was a good point away from home to a likely title challenger. They had the first half. We had the second. The more it went on the stronger we looked, hence their tactics to halt our rhythm and momentum.

At that point, whoever called them Atletico Madrid was spot on.

I think the criticism of the style is a bit unfair. I think they would benefit from being braver in their big games, but week to week they play as progressive, front foot football as there is in the league. However, another season without the league and he is firmly in Roy Evans territory - having done really commendable things to pick them up and turn them into challengers, but they are still not there and you don’t see where they are going to gain that final 1-2% from without a change.

You can debate whether that is fair, but it is what will start being discussed. I think the fact he is so close to Edu will stop it being a real problem, but once the conversation starts it becomes distracting.

It’s always tough to have to rely on young players in big games but the fact that Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri played for a few minutes is not an example of scraping the barrel.

They’re literally two of the best young players in the country. Honestly they should have played more by now.

Nah. Very much deserved.

This isn’t much different from a Mourinho parking the bus against strong sides and then playing expansive football against cannon fodder.

I can understand arsenal parking it against City being a man down and away from home. But this approach against Liverpool boggles the mind.

Weak as piss.

Totally agree. Imagine if we were beating them 2-1 at home and at 70mins we started going to the corner flag, faking injury, and getting yellow cards for time wasting. We wouldn’t accept it.

It makes no fucking sense to me either. There was always a chance we’d score 1-2 more and then they would be chasing the game. It’s just cowardice

A very important point for LFC against one of the main contenders for the title away from home. We have not won against Arsenal in the PL for 30 months, our last two away league games have been 2 straight losses.

I read Arteta’s absurd excuses that they have players missing, well they have a very deep squad and every season they add players - Merino and Calafiori this summer. While yesterday Liverpool was playing practically with the same squad like 2023/2024 season without the free agenst Matip, Thiago and Adrian and the injured - Elliott, Jota, Alisson, Bradley and Chiesa.

Kelleher was very good and his passing was much better than Becker’s, for example we lost last season at the Emirates mainly because of a huge mistake by our brazilian goalie.

Trent - had a solid game from a defensive point of view, did not let Martinelli dominate his side. Konate and VvD were also solid, but they should do better with Arsenal’s set pieces. Twice Rice crossed the ball from a free kick during the 1st half and twice Merino was left alone in a goalscoring position and eventually he scored from his second chances. Virgil and Ibou had to create a better defensive organization in these situations. Still Konate was really impressive against Martinelli /he had to play mostly against him/, while VvD scored the first goal and was rock solid vs. Havertz.

Robbo was shocking and the problem is that is not the first time this season. Saka’s goal was too easy, Andy falling on his backside and eventually looking like a little kid who lost his chocolate. Minutes later Saka went through Robbo and brushed him aside, while shooting from a good situation. Last week Madueke created all sorts of troubles for Robbo too and it is clear that teams are targeting our left back at the moment.

In midfield I think that Jones, Maca and Gravenberch should do better against Merino, Rice and Trosssard. Especially Alexis was invisible for big prats of the match and looked lost and isolated. They passed through our midfield too easily, especially during the first half. Szoboszlai looked decent, but it is obvious that Slot does not trust Endo. Jones was visibly tired after 75th minute and still Arne waited and wiated and it could cost us with Arsenal disallowed goal when Jones made a simple mistake simply because he was very tired.

In attack Salah is once again proving that he is a world class player - 2 goals and 2 assists in our last 3 games /Chelsea, RB and Arsenal/. Diaz with an assist, but still think that Partey managed to neutralize him pretty well. Drawin also did well - goal vs. RB and now a fantastic assist. But the most important thing is his overall game - running, presssing, doing his defensive duties and that partnership with Mo looks really promising.

Tsimikas and Gakpo did ok, especially the Greek who looks a much more reliable player compared to Robbo at the moment.

The club need to invest in a central midfielder, at the moment it is obvious that Slot does not trust Endo, while Morton needs to play competitive football in the Championship, not sitting on our bench. It will be muach better to sell both of them and add one player, who Arne trusts and who will give extra depth to the squad.

And the small matter of the 3 soon to be free agents. Virgil must be signed immediately - best defender in the league and a real captain. Mo is a world class and I wonder which player thu club could realistically sign to replace Salah. While Trent’s situation is clearly embarassing, one of our best players at a perfect age and in 2 months he could negotiate with other clubs and leave Liverpool for nothing.

Central/defensive midfielder and a left back must become priotiry for Hughes and of course new contracts for our best players. And please no more cheap and shit alternatives like - Caulker, Kabak, Ben Davies, Arthur, Chiesa etc.

Of course it’s all about transfers with you. Do you ever watch a game without thinking “I HATE FSG THOSE CHEAP SHITS WHY DID THEY SIGN THAT USELESS £8m LEFT BACK AND RELY ON THOSE USELESS ACADEMY PLAYERS IN MIDFIELD AND RIGHT BACK”

:notes: “You’re just a shit Jose Mourinho!” :notes:

How do they have a 35 man squad? Unless you’re referring to an additional 10 youth players that is simply not possible.

EDIT: Wikipedia says 22 first-teamers registered, and 6 youth players with first-team appearances so far this season. Which amuses me because all of the latter were born after Arsenal won their last league title.

And you don’t think the fact that none of the midfield of those 6 or 19 times winners are in this midfield isn’t something to take into consideration?

Previous trophies might add to stature and prestige of the club and other things like recruitment, but it has fuck all to do with what happens on the pitch on the day. If we have and off day in midfield (and we did) then any of a number of midfields in the PL can boss us.

Its very deceptive to go by the eye test. They weren’t creating chances. It’s very difficult to create chances against this Liverpool team atm

We’re winning the fucking league. Arsenal are a bunch of whiney bitch houses. Everything else is just background noise. Yardy yardy yardy.
