Post match: Arsenal v Liverpool (EPL 9/10/22 4.30pm)

Oliver still pissed at LFC for scoring against his beloved Newcastle in the 98th minute…!

It’s worth seeing it in realtime. His arm was rising. You may debate whether that is deliberate or unnatural but it was definitely making his body bigger which helped to block the shot.

I’m always a bit wary of screenshots as they don’t give context unless it is an offside or the ball crossing a line.

To be fair, a football club is a place of employment and not much else for 90% of these players. They aren’t staying at the club merely through loyalty, but because it works for them, it works for their wife, and works for their children in school and their friend groups.

I doubt there are many on here still going through the stresses and emotions of work when they are taking the lift/stairs out of their work building. Unless you are someone like a criminal investigator, once you clock out, you tend to ‘clock out’. Depending on our line of work, our clients will be more emotionally invested than us but I am sure even they expect us to live our own lives outside of work.

I’m not debating that his arm is in an unnatural position though. I’m debating that contact at such extremely close range after leaving the boot should be counted as a penalty.

He was making his body unnaturally bigger before the ball was kicked. This is why many defenders will put their arms behind their backs when defending. Otherwise the defenders could just hold their arms out wide and claim that they were too close to move.

That doesn’t explain the multitude of idiotic decisions against us. You’re really trying to defend the indefensible here.

Just look at that handball for instance.

Of 25.

We’ve basically lost another 10% of our team yesterday.

Criminally negligent not to have bought in some decent midfielders either last year or this. Bizaare. Milner at least 3 years past it. Ox / Keita are irrelevant. Henderson is now old and Thiago often injured.

What about the guy we took on loan from Juve ?

How dare you not stick with the narrative! The world is ending we’re shit and we should bin off every single player who ever gets injured.

Loads of people throwing around phrases like ‘criminally negligent’

Give the fuck over. The club is stuffed with professionals in all positions who represent to very top of their game.

The idea they’ve been twiddling their thumbs and looking out of the window while the squad has aged is frankly absurd. Decisions have been made regarding recruitment that you disagree with. Thats the long and short of it. The suggestion of negligence is typical internet hysteria - taking an idea and running it to the absolute extreme.

No just suggesting a factor. I already said above that I found the handball decision an joke, and that the refs are generally shit/incompetent. What’s your explanation?

Oh I think mellow yellow is now injured.

Crocked, unfortunately.

Cancel the loan …send him back to Juve…get someone else in.

Didn’t see the game and given the result and backlash, not sure I’m really bothered. It’ll only get me angry I suspect.

I have however seen the incident that lead to Arsenal’s penalty. Wow, that is dodgy as fuck. That’s beyond incompetent whoever gave that.

So I’m angry without having seen the game. Argh

We could go down a dark road (again) regarding decisions against us.

Fact is, we were piss poor at times yesterday, no excuses for that.

But the game hinges on two crucial decisions.
Liverpool should have had a penalty. Definite hand ball.

Jesus dived after minimal contact. The resident VAR aficionado will tell us that they couldn’t intervene, or whatever. But if Salah does that he gets nothing.

But the simple fact is Oliver was fucking awful yesterday. And as @jaffod asks, for a once decent referee why is he now fucking useless on our decisions? Its a reasonable question.

Heres a clue,
Anagram of siba.

I agree that this is over the top.

However, we should have bought in someone last year - to not have done so was on the hope that we would not have injuries, smacks of over confidence and arrogance in an agreed system that should have always looked to evolve/adapt. For the record, I was on the side of taking the “hope” position as we had just come very close to a historic quadruple and we had a longish patch where we had cobbled through. That said the moral of the story here is that hope isn’t a strategy. There should have been a backup strategy - sometimes the right person is not available and it is about bringing in someone. Obviously Melo was that person but we seemed to have picked a Thiago/Keita/Henderson type all rolled into one - their injury side more than any superhuman amalgamation. Maybe just a joe blogs that can do a job for a season would have been sufficient.

I still think we will turn it around, It’s just going to be a bit of a bit of a ride…

That’s fair enough, but you’re suggesting that as the biggest factor as opposed to a bias, which several officials have already demonstrated. I think it’s a convenient excuse for them to not give us something.

They are generally shit and incompetent, and part of that is, to me, their inability to negate their personal biases.

Yes, that makes sense, but a big jump from there to refs all being bent, corrupt, brown envelopes etc

United fan by any chance? Or were you dropped on your head as a child? Repeatedly?

If (and that’s a bloody big IF) you’re a Liverpool fan, you put months when you must have meant weeks.
