Post match: Arsenal v Liverpool (EPL 9/10/22 4.30pm)

I thought we played quite well. The defence let us down a bit and Trent was again caught out on occasion. We came back twice and should have had a pen and not had one given against us. This arsenal side is not that good and to lose to them is galling.

Salah’s role to me is a bit confused, I’m not sure what we want from him the way we are set up and that is worrying. With Diaz it seems more clear but Salah is caught between playing as was once was and something else - which is not clear to me…

This season also reminds me of 2 previous seasons. Klopp’s 2nd and 5th.

In season 2 we were naïve, nice and soft. We didn’t even know how to game-manage not using our subs when ahead by a goal.

In season 5 following the 2 CL experiences (CL loss and win) we learned we needed to bully or at least stand up to opponents and refs. We even circled the ref a few times, showing we had realized we needed to be street-smart.

This season (7th) it certainly looks like we are are back to our old ways. Our guard’s down and we are feeling sorry for ourselves. Klopp is not angry at our players, in the way Klopp knows how to motivate.

Here’s to hoping that the ignorant, well-intended owners, will let him rebuild and not make any stupid decision. Unless they have a buyer as they are on their way to cash-in…(in which case there may be no re-build).

Where is Jon Moss when you need him eh…
No way would he have been worse than that sly cnut Oliver today

I’ve got some more positives.

Only 14 points off top.
Only the 3 goals conceded
Only the 2 injuries.
City next game
Least we’re not Everton.

Didn’t see it yet, but from the clips I’ve seen, and the comments read:

Gabriel handball. Clear penalty for us not given.
Jesus went down and they got a soft penalty.

Just those two things reversing to what might have been expected sees us win it 3-2.

But from reading the comments we weren’t that good, again, looking a bit old and leggy. Mo Salah out of sorts too, and very peripheral.

Diaz good again, injured by Partey. Hope it’s not bad.
Nunez on the score sheet. Keep playing him so he builds on this.
Trent injured (by Martinelli?)

This last one might be a blessing in disguise. Get Gomez in there to add some solidity, while an enforced absence, if that’s what it is, might help Trent regroup.

Sounds like Arteta was annoying, not staying in his area, and almost trying to get onto the pitch. Still, he is fighting for his team, so I won’t get too bothered by that.

Oliver having a bad game is concerning. It sounds like he gave them everything he could, and stopped us in every way he could too.

We simply have to dust ourselves down and go again. We have to find a way to start getting some points, or top four will slip away too.

Apparently according to the Athletic we were in for Bissouma. And we were in for Caicedo late on too. But we didn’t land anyone for the midfield, and it sorely needs some athleticism.

Bad season so far. Needs to improve quickly.

My take on the match (and on the season so far):

  1. Trent needs to sort his defensive shit out. He might deliver good balls and be otherwise a solid defender, but this season his defending is shambolic. Gomez did very well when he came on and I believe he ought to be ahead of Trent in the RB pecking order on current form.
  2. Matip CANNOT play 3 games a week. Just cannot. Every time Klopp tries that, it is a bad idea. Joel is otherwise our clear strting option, but NEVER one for the third game in a row (unless there is a week-long rest between the matches).
  3. The most (over)used players of Klopp’s era are clearly out of form for the whole season. Not only Trent, but also VVD, Fab and Salah. Not sure what is the answer, but trying to play VVD and Salah into form is clearly not working. I believe VVD should be rested against Rangers. Maybe Salah as well (or at least shift him to no. 9 and use Elliott as the right wing).
  4. I strongly believe the formation with double no. 6 is much more solid than the 4-3-3 formation. Two defensive mistakes aside, we looked much better in the first half than after Fab came on and the system shifted to midfield three.
  5. I hope Diaz returns soon as he is our most in-form player. Bobby is one of the few others that is in form. Salah’s misery aside, attack is clearly not a problem for us. The other two departments are.
  6. Arsenal did not play that well. On another night (or with at least half of the ref’s 50-50 decisions going in our favour) we could have won the match even with a performance delivered tonight. But it seems that when it rains, it pours …

Is it handball???

I have no idea - that’s what I’m asking.

No, it isnt. The whistle indicates the game may resume, not that the ball is back in play.

Gooner friend of mine said something happened between Henderson, Gabriel and Xhaka after the game, and it has been referred to the FA.

Anyone know anything about this?

If the whistle has gone …the ball is in play…if its in play and a player touches the ball, its handball…but in the case of the Arses it isn’t…I did shout at the tv…handball…but no one took any notice… I would say yes…but I’m only a 62yr old grandma…so what would I know…praps I’m grasping at straws.

Cheers👍

I’m there too to be honest :frowning: I was before the season started, and I 100% agree with you about Klopp and what we stand for. The fucking money involved is obscene, and with that, as in any other sector, comes corruption, greed and deceit. It’s at club level in the top flight and it’s in the governing bodies. This must be what is in my heart, because normally I would be either depressed or irritated about our current form but I’m really not bothered  :+1:

Discussing, debating will only hurt you more. Take care, be at peace.

So has Hendo decked anyone…again no booking for the hands to the chest and afters…by Xaka…but again it was the Arses.

Yes, apparently it all started when Xhaka called him a “shit Steven Gerrard”

One of the things that has rubbed me the wrong way is every piece you have read since the summer than mentioned Halaand will mention his price tag, 50 something million. It’s like a coordinated distraction effort to hide that at near enough a million quid a week salary only a club that has corrupted the game with ill begotten money can afford him.

Time for vvd to take a turn on bench.
Along with matip and salah those 3 were worst players on the pitch.

Salahs been poor since afcon. Major concern now as its not a blip when its 9 months.

You quite clearly haven’t got the memo, unless you play a perfect game you’re not allowed to talk about bad refereeing.
