I fucking say!!! What a majestic performance from an incredible team! Hard to pick out single players for praise, but Curtis and Rhyss were immense. Jota is an another universe! Sensational hat trick! Salah and Mane got in on the act too! Alisson must be heaped some praise too! Great saves!

Right, I’m off for a special smoke!!!

Wow, that’s what they called firing on all cylinders. From the woodwork, keeper, all the way to the front 3. A 5 goals showing is the least our boys could score based on the way that we and Atalanta played tonight.

The positive: Pretty much everything right from the 1st minute to the end. The 5 subs did their jobs well enough. Tsimi and Neco looked fine.

The negative: The 3 yellow cards (Gini one was necessary as a technical foul to slow down Atalanta’s attack. Curtis one was a bad coming together. The boss one was just the 4th official being too sensitive. The 5th goal was at 50+ minutes…and then no goals from our boys for the next 40’, and the match felt slow afterwards!

3 picks? I can just randomly pick any of the 1st 11 plus at least 2 of the subs. Here they are anyway:

  1. Diogo - Almost scored right off the get go. Superb outing. Came back to help out in the defensive duties too. Beautiful goals - (1) shrugged off the pull and tug, then chipped over the keeper; (2) excellent control from a great cross field ball, smashed it in with his right foot; (3) got on his horses when Sadio controlled the ball, nicked passed the keeper and the net is wide opened like Jaws ready for its meal. I hope that he picked up the match ball too.

2=. Sadio - A goal and an assist. Slide rule pass for Diogo’s hat trick. And that run to get to space and chipped over the keeper. Worked tiredlessly just like all the boys in red.

2=. Mo - Also a goal and an assist. He puts the jets on, what a sprint from own half after Atalanta’s botched corner. Stopped, moved the ball to his left, then curled it in. The assist to Sadio was right on the money from a smart throw in, Mo just knew where to go, and slotted the ball perfectly for Sadio…The moaner would complain that Mo should have passed the ball to Mane late in the 2nd half instead of attempting to lob the ball over the keeper’s head.

Hendo, Gini, Rhys, Curtis, Joe were also exceptional. Robbo and TAA did great too. Ali with his great saves, and his friend, the woodwork kept the clean sheet.

Excellent performance and Jota was a joy to watch.

Only red wave I want to see in the next day or two.

I just realised that our boys arrived on a plane with Jota branding. Well, how uncanny!

Edit:
Nevermind, it was mentioned in the subsequent pre-match posts. I am just reading them now.

That was something else,Diogo is certainly earning his keep, young Rhys is stepping up really well, better from Trent and Robbo,Alisson doing what he needed to do.
Of course,Sadio and Mo make it hard for defenders as always.
Can’t go past Diogo for Motm, but a very encouraging performance all round.

We do need someone to criticise, don’t we?

I defended you when others were criticizing you earlier.

What a performance, albeit helped by some naive tactics by the Atalanta coach.
But whatever, we now have the Portuguese Messi.

First time I have voted for our GK after A 5-0 win!!

Alison was massive, just a tower of strength. Of course we would have still flogged them without him but gee he makes important saves and distributions.

Nice to watch that was. Saw a slight lovers tiff between Mane and Salah after another Salah shot Instead of pass. These are never an issue when you win though…

And to think we still have Thiago to slot in.

So the biggest problem for us on here now is whether to add Jota or Bobby in the front 3 for the next game. Things must be going well.

And Atalanta’s defending was shockingly disrespectful to the memory of Nobby. Felt they were practically spitting on his grave at times, Andy.

Edit: see mascot has beaten me to it

Like most other CL games we have, couldn’t watch at work so wanted to wait until I got home. Made the mistake of going on Insta and seeing a goal announcement, but tried to keep myself out of knowing the result. Ended up seeing it was 5-0 at one point but didn’t see the full time score so I could come home and watch in surprise. Fantastic performance, really well-drilled defensively…it was really telling how much you could hear Klopp and the players shouting even when in total control, epitomizes the team’s attitude. And a hat-trick for Diogo…I’m pretty sure Bobby will start in a 4-3-3 on Sunday as seems to be the case for away games but I would LOVE to see us go 4-2-3-1 and accommodate them both. Even a 4-5-1 (highly unlikely) could accommodate them both; ok, perhaps that’s a stretch, but I’m a believer in Jota/Bobby rotation or at least getting Diogo in the team regularly. I thought it was really telling that Lijnders said Diogo was on the same level technically (if not in terms of consistency) as the front three; that says to me he’s going to be playing a lot more than Origi/Big Shaq/etc. Roll on the Sky Blues.
