Post Match: Brighton v Liverpool (EPL 8/10/23 2pm)

Fwiw Klopp has stated Robbo left it because he heard a shout. It’s a dangerous clearance to try to make from there so you’d understand why he’d gladly comply if that is what he thinks he heard.

He’s also bent over backwards to not complain about the lack of red and say we accept the ref’s decision which looks very much a calculated response

Not the worst result contextually, but frustrating all the same in that we should have 4 from the last 6 and we have 1. Onwards.

This Brighton team was savaged by Newcastle and villa so its not we were playing madrid here , they had periods of 78% possession and at least two scoring chances one Allison again produced a semi miracle and the 2nd pedro should have scored . look we all want Klopp to succeed but some of decision making lately is erratic with formation and players on the pitch and its costing the team

kovacic fouls were both worse than jones… dude still on the pitch and yes brooks is on var

Did you see any of the villa game? The score was an aberration. And the point isn’t that they are going to challenge for the top honors but the problems they pose teams with the way they play are as big as those posed by anyone

Can you release the audio please that you’ll record tomorrow?

yes i watched their game against manure , villa , Newcastle and recently Marseille they are good team but not top class and certainly not a team the should boss US ,but we create our own problems sloppy, careless passing and playing the first half with 10.5 players against 11

FIFY!

We had some good moments, some good performances but overall just not good enough. Midfield still lacking despite two good signings in Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.

Gravenberch should have scored. Diaz possibly with his chance on goal. Diaz is quality but probably didn’t show enough today. We need a bit more from him. When you don’t take your chances you need to be able to defend your lead. Gomez not great. Robertson not that great either but his form has waned and shined for a few seasons now.

We’re still a bit short and there’s a need for a few more quality signings yet. We need to be winning these games. Rather disappointing.

Of course, they are a really good team that will make anyone suffer. The point of contention is that we made it easier for them with how sloppy and flat we were for large periods. They played better and looked better because we allowed them to. Or does anyone believe that this is the best we can do?

My theory is that Kovacic’s challenges look less angry because he isn’t wearing a red shirt. Only explanation that makes sense.

Sloppy or pressured by a very good side?

Today we were supposedly the first side to leave the am ex since de zerbi arrived to end the game with more possession and higher xG. Puts into perspective the sense of how “bad” we were and why it might have looked that way

I really don’t understand the meltdown here after drawing against Brighton as they are a very good side.

However what I hoped after the Spurs game was that we take the frustration of that result and make it count today and get us back on that form we were showing. I guess if Gravenberch would’ve scored it would be a different story but still very frustrating that we let them score two goals out of our stupid errors. But then again it was a clear dive that got them the free kick, and I don’t understand the rules anymore if thats not a red for the foul on Szobo.

Frustrating game really. Not because we dominated from start to finish but because we had a 2-1 lead and a couple of chances to score.

BHA play great football but they do give you chances at the back. We didn’t make the most of ours today.

Annoyed by the fact that we yet again gave away most of the first half. Why are we so slow out of the blocks? Midfield didn’t work at all first half. Elliot didn’t look great but he wasn’t the only one at fault. Macallister isn’t a natural n 6, and apparently Endo isn’t the solution for Klopp, and he suffered first half. Much better with a different set up in the second. Don’t really understand why some posters were calling for him to be subbed off.

Nunez had a good game. He has developed a good understanding with Salah. Unfortunately Díaz went missing and in this game Klopp didn’t have the alternatives on the bench.

Klopp did get the original set up wrong and the substations late in the second half to shore up the defence didn’t pan out well. We got worse with Konate and Gomez. Especially Konate had a bad game when he barged straight into March causing the free kick that led to the equaliser.

Wasn’t so much the number around Macca but the pace of the pass that triggered a successful press
Clearly on VVD

This.

Look at the other teams up there and where they’ve played and who they have played.

De zerbi’s comments are not easy to understand but I’m 90% sure his response to be asked should Gross have been sent off was to say he shouldn’t have had a free kick for their equalizer :joy:

No need to be so negative. We’re definitely on the road for a top four finish. Can’t really see us miss out on that.

With a few tweaks from the manager I’d say we could even challenge for the title. Doesn’t seem like one team will run away with the title this season. We just need to stay close to Arse and City until the run in😎

We are a team in transition. We’re rebuilding, even Klopp says as much. We’ve bought an exciting group of young midfielders and attackers who are mixing with the established players to create a whole new team. It’s inevitable that there will be bumps in the road and the last couple of games, for various reasons, haven’t been ideal. It’s all part of the learning process and this is a very exciting time to be a Liverpool fan.
There were frustrating aspects to the match today, but nothing to leave us downhearted.
Top four and a good run in Europe are realistic targets for the season.

Both. Take our pressing as an example. It wasn’t as effective because they moved the ball faster and our pressing wasn’t near as organised and consistent as it ought to be apart from the beginning of the second half.
