Post Match: Brighton v Liverpool (FAC 29/1/23 1.30pm)

Trent was fine? He was getting roasted by Mitoma, who went quiet when Milly came on until the bit at the end

Wish we still had Minamino, he was a good finisher and never let us down as a backup

Not sure about that. Virgil had an extremely poor one earlier in the season (can’t remember the exact match, as I’ve tried to wipe it from my memory), when he just stood there with his arms behind his back.

Was going to right a long reply about a right footed defender playing left side and why he tried to block the way he did, but it would be wasted

Do you work in English media?

Gomez is more than proficient with his left foot.
I could probably find footage of many right footed defenders putting in a much more effective attempt to block in similar situations as that than Gomez did yesterday, would also be wasted though.

As a right footed defending player I would be doing probably exactly the same as a last ditch block, and whether I or Gomez or whoever went with right or left foot block there is no way I or whoever is going to be able to recover to cover his chop back.

Just an excellent piece of skill

It absolutely was an excellent piece of skill, totally agree.
My issue is not with him being beaten.
Not turning your back on it gives a more realistic chance of defending it though.

I agree turning his back wasn’t correct but it had no influence on the result, he chopped back so well and took the shot so early no one could have stopped it. The only thing to stop it was by not trying to block the initial opening/shot, which had to be done.

That was the point I was making.
Regardless of the excellent piece of skill outdoing him, turning your back is one of the basic things you’re schooled not to do from a very young age.

But we all still do it I am 56 and still do it, once you get one full blast in the knackers it isn’t something you want again

ÂŁ75000 a week alleviates a lot of pain

I’m happy being a man and dont want to be gender neutral even for $75,000 aweek

Unlikely. When a business is put up for sale you stop any additional capital spend and rein in recruitment to conserve your cash. I have no doubt there are “plans” to buy players but that is part of the “upside” presented to potential buyers.

Having said that, we don’t know for sure what the situation is with FSG. They may roll part of their investment into a new structure with a partner or exit completely.

As investors go, I think they have done an excellent job with our club. Current performance aside, they have ticked every box that a good owner possibly could. We should be grateful for their involvement and leadership. We are now a world class football club thanks to them.

I’ve said this about many games all season, although less so after the World Cup break.

But that’s not the point of these threads, you’re meant to spit out your dummy and throw a tantrum here, apparently. Otherwise you’re just some rose-tinted glasses blinkered “true fan”.

I’m all for valid criticisms but so much of the histrionics on this place is just spoilt people whining that we didn’t spend £250m like Chelsea did. All nuance is thrown out of the window, and every single squad member needs to be binned off and we need to splash out billions on the latest toys.

It’s telling how the talk is rarely ever “we need to get a player of a particular profile”, but almost always “we need to spend £x m”.

That’s all that needs to be said.

That’s because people like you gobble it all up.

So maybe they’re not selling the club wholly?

Yes
