Post match: Burnley v Liverpool (EPL 13/2/22 2pm)

To be fair, there are parts of Brazil that make Burnley look like Disneyland.

There wasn’t. I’ve posted repeatedly Burnley haven’t played much shithouse football at all this year. Just a hard nosed team, nothing more nothing less. They showed some ambition in the transfer market to bring more quality in to stay up. I don’t at all want them to go down, for several reasons.

Regarding the offside trap, there was an excellent graph showed recently in The Athletic about our high line and how effective it’s been. While many don’t like it, Liverpool (at the time the article was published) have caused 90 offside this year from the opposition, double that of the next club, City (45).

I can get us fans getting nervous with that, but the commentators today went on and on about how Liverpool shouldn’t be playing this high line and Burnley are causing us all sorts of problems with that.

Its the commentators fall back position on all of our games gives them something to talk about.

The fact that Burnley had more scoring opportunities than us suggests that they exploited the high line quite well. Had it not been for the excellent Becker, or the lack of a quality Burnley striker, we might be discussing why Liverpool lost to such lowly opposition.

Think I would still take Atkinson over that cnut Tierney!

But they really didn’t.

I’m not being argumentative, how many offside did we create? It just looked like they were creating ‘opportunities’ bc the assistant took forever to raise the flag.

Did they actually? I think I might need to head to Specsavers

They had 9 and we had 12

Fair comment.

Bar the chances that Burnley had, I got the feeling that second half we were content with the status quo and didn’t go all out to score a second. Ultimately we were confident in our own ability to absorb any pressure that Burnley might create, and indeed the final result bears this out. Perhaps in previous seasons we would have gone all out for a second and maybe conceded an equaliser. Does anyone else think this?

Yeah, I dont know who the commentator was on my feed, which was Spark Sports here in NZ who I think use BeIn. Perhaps Ian CrockofShit and Andy Wanker.
It was a Burnley wankfest for that first half, going on about how lucky we were, nothing was offside and how unfortunate Burnley are not to be a couple of goals up.
Poor dog was getting worried I was yelling at the TV for him to STFU so often.

And this is what frustrates me. The offside line does its job incredibly well. The linesmen don’t flag even if it’s clear because that’s the rule and then pig thick gobshites for hire like Savage drone on about how open we are and how many chances we’re giving up.

In reality there was no threat, the chances weren’t real and our defence was actually playing a blinder. But perception is reality and people paid to talk about the game have a very basic perception as to what’s going on.

It does my fucking head in. Can someone tell me why this happens ? What the fuck is the point of it ?

Simply not true, this is a lie being spread by people who don’t understand football.

Nothing said how we have caught over 100 offsides so far this season and our high line works exceptionally well, it’s simply made to look bad because if a stupid rule (which will end in an injury before long).

Fair enough. It’s easy to forget the initial offside when the play develops into a goal scoring chance. That said, I think Burnley will feel that they had really good chances to score. Better sides may well have done. Allison must be close to being MOTM, which says it all for me.

Only one shot would have counted rest were offside.

Think @Jabu is referring to Hendo when he says main attribute is hustling around. Hard to disagree with that. Hendo has a massive engine, awesome attitude, leadership and many great qualities, but it’s difficult to call him technical. Surely has to slip into that Milner type role as time goes by, particularly if this is Milner’s last season with us.

Ah apologies thought it was a reply about Bobby. Yes, for sure that’s Hendo’s main attribute and he has been really poor this season, sadly

Agree, i thought we controlled it really well and gave them very little opportunity to get near our goal.
