Because VAR is so reliable they’ve told linesmen not to flag in case they might get it wrong and mistakenly stop an attack where the player was onside.
Reality of what is happening is an awful lot of very clear offsides are being allowed to run on even though the linesman knows it’s off and he’s going to flag at some point.
Basically, they’ve removed the primary point of having linesmen in the first place.
I disagree that it’s a stupid rule, simply because you can’t let the linesmen call narrow offsides if there is a reasonable chance that the attacking team might actually be onside, thereby ruling out a legitimate goal.
I do think however that they’ve let some really obvious offsides go, which is really daft.
Just finished watching. Phew. I never like a 1-0… until the final whistle!
Horrible team to play against. Horrible conditions to play in. Driving rain. High winds. Swirling wind. Pitch looked waterlogged too, judging by the amount of short passes.
Still, a win is a win is a win. Three points. The chase is on. Could have been deflating. Instead it was professional.
Fabinho, nicely done. Virg strong too. And Alisson reliable when needed… which was a lot, as he had all those offside chances to save!
It was a horrible game in terrible conditions. I couldn’t wait for the final whistle, but not because I thought we were going to concede. It was another well managed victory, just like Leicester.
great win .
firmino again was poor but to be honest salah was also poor .
hendo again poor , might be not fit !
positives 3 important points against a really difficult team, Kieta had 90 min and thiago added quality .
Fab, Allison and TAA get my MOTM picks. I only got to watch the highlights but it looked like the most memorable thing about the game was the terrible weather. Still, 3 points on the board and no injuries is not to be sniffed at.
Mane knows what is expected with his eyes closed at attacking and defending set peices in a Klopp team. All the positional play and patterns he can do without thinking. Add to the fact we’re playing Burnley on a rainy windy day.
Diaz is learning a lot just by watching how Mane is doing from the left. We’re in the thick end of game after game for the few weeks. Klopp to me seems like he is now in his rotating phase, where the whole first team squad will be used game to game.
Also, Jota was meant to start but couldn’t recover from his dead leg sufficiently, so that’s another reason for Mane’s inclusion over Diaz (who played almost the full game on Thursday).
Was going to bed an hour before this one started. Just watching it now. Shit conditions to be playing in, that’s for sure. First 15 min, lots of under-hit passed. That wind is fierce across the pitch from bottom to top of the screen
But potato head Murphy thinks we were very lucky as Burnley had 7-8 excellent chances. Should be banned from speaking about football if you are so stupid.
With the recent introduction for off-side passage of play being allowed to continue numerous times in a game, with some a lot more obvious than others… wonder if the referee adds this wasted/lost time on at the end of the half…?
Some commentators still call added time after the 45min mark as injury time; which is normally why a game gets stopped; … what should the blatant off-sides be called… waste of time maybe?
Like 3mins added on for waste of time… Nah suppose not, that would make them sound silly eh, but in reality, that is exactly what these incidents are…
