He was notably more influential in the second half. That’s not the first time we’ve seen this from him. We obviously will need more out of him, but it’s not hard to see the talent and that he is a player increasingly growing into the situation. Almost like a velociraptor testing the fences. I dare say he won’t have faced many sides set up like that against him before.
You are not wrong on that count but for the good and bad to be so evenly matched, it is either an end to end basketball match or a boring shitfest where one team is not looking to win and one team is just so poor. Fortunately, it’s a win for LFC that came off a penalty from an inspired moment from Frimpong!
Somebody said they blocked 11 shots. If that had been other way around our negatives would have been howling from the roof tops saying we hung on and were lucky.
I think that was the only way to catch burnley out who is no doubt looking to crowd the box to the point that you cannot play through them.
The thing about that particular moment is that it seems to swerve around the defending player who may or may not gamble on blocking it, be it on instinct or deliberate action. Hannibal gambled with that block that a proper defender might have judge it to be going nowhere. Fortunately, Hannibal is not a defender lol!
The quickness to judge new players pisses me right off. Kerkez has been notably worse than Wirtz and there are some getting on his back already.
At this stage in their Liverpool careers Fabinho and Robbo had barely stepped foot on the pitch yet. Sometimes you can ease players in, other times they get dropped in the deep end. Baffles the mind that people expect them all to fire from minute one.
With the massive turnover in players, not to mention the mourning for Jota, I didn’t expect us to get off to a flying start AND look good doing it this season.
Plus, our opening fixtures have been sneaky difficult. Our first 3 wins were against teams currently sat 2nd, 4th, and 10th in the table. And then this “easiest” of our opening games against a newly promoted side but away, on a rainy Sunday in Burnley against a side that, if I understood the commentators correctly, hadn’t lost on their home patch in a year, and with a Scott Parker desperate not to have another 0-9 Liverpool on his docket.
So, to have maximum points so far whilst still not having played well in any game, I’m more than pleased. I trust Slot and the players to figure it out, and I actually think moving into 2 games a week will help in that regard.
As for the game itself:
We got better when Robertson came on, though winced with sympathy for Kerkez getting the hook.
We got better when Bradley came on, as well.
Intensity and speed of attack improved with Bradley, and with Wirtz growing into the game.
I’m not worried about Wirtz, he’s world class and will come good. Just think for now he needs to “dumb it down” a bit and be a little more direct, plus as he finally did once or twice today, take on the shot instead of the intricate pass.
And Rio was excellent again. That pass to Frimpong deserved a goal.
