Robbo should have been more switched on but we’re basically blaming him for not making a last ditch interception.
Gravenberch played Cucarella onside and doesn’t track the run either, doing neither one thing or the other. Twice in a week he’s been at fault for playing the winning goal onside.
They are hopes, not expectations. They never were for me anyway.
Also, it should not be surprising that introducing the number of players we have has resulted in some difficulties. That was my major fear coming into this season and it appears to have caught up with us a bit.
And yes it is frustrating. Slot and his team really needs to earn their beans now.
Three defeats on the road and people think we are unable to be a competing team.
First of all, reality check if a great transfer window made you think we were going to be the best team immediately.
Secondly, that doesn’t mean that we are not a very good team that can get better the deeper we get in the season. We’ve beaten Arsenal in a game where we were the better team, both defensively and offensively. Atletico was no fluke either.
Some spells in our other games (both the ones we lost and the ones we won) were in the good-impressive spectrum.
In that move Cucu had 4 different players “responsible” for him at various stages and it resulted in none of them ever properly owning it. Maybe late game tiredness/confusion but it’s surely relevant they were players not so much playing out of position but playing in combinations that are not familiar making that sort of defensive hand off clunky.
I’m surprised by how frequently this criticism has come up for something that is utterly orthodox and expected of your CB. When you’re not in position to immediately put pressure on the ball you have to wait for the right opportunity to step up to do it otherwise you becomes way too easy to take you out of play with a simple pass before you can close the space
As it stands a loss or two are bitter pills to swallow. What is apparent is how disjointed we appear, thats down to bedding players in. I personally don’t think you will see the best from this team until next season. Remember the first season of Sobo and Grav, nearly everyone was calling for their sale.
.
Wirtz, Frimpong, Kerkez, Isak will all take time. I personally think this team was bought for the next five to six seasons rather than this one.
.
Right now though Slot needs to earn his money and get results which keep us there or there about so we come out firing either after Christmas or next season.
It is all very strange…A team that is pressing effectively last season is not even attempting to do any sort of press now…Bar for Isak, all the players that joined the club recently has nearly a full pre-season to play together and get to know each other’s position.
What we are seeing now is literally zero coherence.
As I mentioned above, bar for Isak, the rest of the players nearly had a full pre-season together. Just look at this match. The starting lineup bar for Isak and Kerkez were nearly the same as last season but the tactics couldn’t be anymore further different.
Last season, it was all about control and proper pressing. This season, poor pressing for the existing players and near zero control even for those who were part of the title winning team last season.
This particular match, we only had 7 shots where only 2 were only on target. Our set-pieces went to shit as well when we started asking Gakpo to be the corner taker rather than be in the mix inside the 6 yard box.
We cannot pin this purely on the newcomers when the old-timers are stinking up the place as shown in this match.
The only place where the buck stop is at the coaching staff. What are the players actually doing on the training pitch?
Your 10 to 12 games includes the UCL as well or purely the domestic league games?
Let’s face it we have good players and tactically we are shit.
When we feel pressured we line up 41113, because we can not get the ball out from the back. The midfield all in a line up the pitch so easy to defend against. This is a simple problem of midfield nous.
Slot keeps trying 4222 which with the players we have is even worst.
When Szoboszlai is in midfield we end up playing 4114 which is a defensive nightmare with Szoboszlai trotting around in space being completely useless he’s worth more than that.
I thought we might go 442 diamond this season even though our buys didn’t fit.
Defensively the problem is the press or lack of, not picking up players in midfield and not slowing the opposition game down. You can not leave it to Konaté to do all this. If you asked Gomez to do it he wouldn’t last 2 matches.
Just think about it before picking on individuals.
Will Arne Slot drop Mohamed Salah after Chelsea star reveals damning Maresca plan?
Story by Will Ford
Arne Slot has plenty to consider during the international break after Chelsea condemned his Liverpool side to three consecutive defeats on Saturday, and a revelation from Marc Cucurella suggests a big change could be in the offing.
“A lot has been made of Liverpool’s defensive work and rightly so, but that’s not why they’ve lost this game,” Neville said on his podcast.”They’ve lost this game because in the last 15-20 minutes, their creative players, their players in the final half of the pitch, the midfield players and the forwards were absolutely useless.”
None more so than Mohamed Salah, whose downturn this season – which has seen him score three and assist three in ten games – will be a real concern for Slot, particularly if, as highlighted by Cucurella after the game, he’s being targeted as a weakness.
“I think we deserve it,” Cucurella told Sky Sports. “We started the game very well and then the second half we started not in the right way again – we need to improve these things. But in general I think we deserve this win…
“We know that Salah is always ready for the counter-attack so we practiced that and the manager said that the space might be there [on the right side of Liverpool].
“We saw that it was the last minute but we kept attacking. I tried to give my last effort and Enzo gave me the ball and I crossed for Estevao.”
Conor Bradley was readily exposed by Alejandro Garnacho without the support of Salah on Liverpool’s right flank and was hooked at half-time on a yellow card as he struggled to cope with the Argentinian alone. And following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Slot is yet to land on his preferred replacement.
