Post Match: Everton v Liverpool (EPL 17/10/2020 12.30pm)

thiago was quiet at the start and i don’t think he was quite as impactful as hendo. you could make a strong case for sadio as MOTM too. but still a superb performance from thiago, didn’t shy away from the rough stuff and he’s sublime on the ball

No. The ref just missed it or forgot to deal with it. There is no issue with it being offside that prevents that being punished. Much of what goes wrong these days is about rules that create absurd situations the ref has to follow. This was just a case of the ref confusing himself and VAR not doing anything to help him out.

I don’t understand what I’ve just watched.

Really? I was under the impression that they can check for a red card even if it wasn’t given by the on-field ref.

In addition to being shit in general as a ref, apparently this isn’t the guy’s first big VAR blunder. Absolute joke that he has been able to keep his job in the PL after so many mistakes.

A number of outstanding players to be honest, so no need to argue, I chose Henderson as the MOTM, but if Hendo is a 9, then players like Sadio, Thiago are a 8.9 to me.

You remind me of old Stewie Griffin using Skype.

Thiago, Hendo and Fabinho shat all over their supposedly great new midfield. They were very lucky, to put it mildly, to come away a point and 10 players on the pitch. Still, massive improvement from our last game, even if it has ended with a similar level of frustration

TAA, Gomez and Adrian need to be sorted out…WTF was TAA doing for the bitter’s second goal? It is not as if he don’t have the pace and the stamina to keep up with Digne…

As for Gomez, he has regressed quite alarmingly, his reaction to the bitter’s second goal was poor. Got blindsided by Calvert-lewin totally.

Adrian is quite the shambles. 9 goals conceded in 2 games. Hasn’t got the balls to come out flying to punch the ball.

Thiago is amazing with his passes and interception. Heck, he is the best in our team in terms of interception…

Take your pick from Mane, Hendo, Thiago and Robbo I would say.

If he’s that old, I should be dead.

would’ve preferred the customary desultory goodison nil nil draw it turns out

Total BS that Everton was not 2 men down and VAR call Hendo’s goal an offside. The scuminess and dirtiness from Everton on intentional injuring opposition players has Duncan Ferguson’s fingerprints all over them. Now that they have done such horrible acts against our boys, I wish Everton get steamrolled by other teams in PL. Bastards! (I am absolutely fuming.)

A very good match by our boys after the humiliation at Villa Park, though there were periods during the match that we did not have control, and there were concerns that Everton would score when they had those periods of possessions.

Adrian was not exactly a shining beacon in goal. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but…

With VvD off injured, the back 4 once again was not as cohesive, but acceptable most of the time. TAA did not have his best game. Robbo did wonderfully with an assist and a massive block.

With Hendo back in command, the mid provided much better defensive coverage, in addition to helping the attack. Too bad that Hendo did not get the goal. Thiago took about 15-20 minutes to get into this game, but once he settled down, wow, what a player. Klopp mentioned that he needed further assessment because of Richarlson’s awful tackle. Fabinho’s passes (I thought that he took up some of Virg’s long ball role) were not as accurate today.

Front 3 were great. Great goals by Sadio and Mo. There should really be more coming from them. Firmino seemed to be a bit better in today’s match as well. However, I found that Mo and Firmino got knocked off possession…perhaps they were subconsciously knowing how dirty the Everton’s players are?

My 3 picks:

  1. Sadio: The contrast between this and last match with his presence was night and day. His work ethics and intensity, his cleverness on and off the ball were amazing.

  2. Hendo: Provided the calmness and commanding presence in the middle of the park. Again, he played a lot more forward with Thiago and Fab sitting further back. His goal should have been counted. Total BS VAR decisions.

  3. Thiago: As mentioned above, it took him some time to settle into the match. Before that, his passes were poor and got bullied off the ball. But once he got into the groove, his vision and accuracy were not to be questioned.

A big shout out to Robbo for his performance and contribution. Wish that he could help prevent the 2nd goal though.

Just hope that both Virg and Thiago are okay.

I think I’d like to hit a restart button for today

Yep. Easily the top 4 performers for me this game.

Robbo throughout the game was excellent both going forward and tracking back.
Mane is so lively throughout the game. He’s the outlet basically these days to move things forward with Robbo.
Hendo was brilliant. IMO Thiago opened up their midfield and their press with that quick flick across the wings multiple times, which just carves teams open.

And I was really happy with Oliver before the match started but how he could miss the Pickford red is beyond me, David Coote obvious had some money on a draw.

he is jus not a good defender. love the kid… jus dont know how to help him. he seems out of position most times, even when someone covers for him he still struggles and teams are attacking that side of the pitch and getting goals too

Big jobs ahead of Hendo and Jürgen for the week ahead. Wouldn’t want anyone else.
