This is spot on. I’ve been saying this for months. VVD is the worst culprit walking the ball to the half way line while the opposition get eleven men behind the ball.
That is probably true, but I think it’s also true that we are also not taking advantage of the pace we do have.
We got a right bashing in the press today for a 4:1 win and then we get a self flagellation on this thread from our supporters. Szoboszlai was named the man of the match unanimously but for that mistake he would have been lauded by everyone, yes mistake what’s all this disrespectful malarkey! I was very nervous after they scored but that was the same feeling after we won the first 5 games the main reasons being that at every phase due to unforeseen injury pile up, untimely sale of our players and untimely buying of their replacements, our manager was left still trying to spin plates and be expected not to just win but to do it with playing good football. He has remained calm and collected and had Klopp been in his place he would have already given a good tongue lashing at his critics.
His mistake, and it’s a mistake not some arrogance (you’ll see this up and down the country every weekend) was cancelled out by his overall performance and goal.
Remember Alisson trying to take on a defender when he first got here? Was that arrogance?
Impressive scoreline but the football was not good and we let barnsley look like a half decent premier league team.
Szobozslai was incredible last night and behind everything good we did but he spoiled it somewhat with that unnecessary error. Thing is, part of the nature of Liverpool FC has always been to show respect to visitors from lower divisions. It’s a big day for them and their fans to come to Anfield so the hospitality has to be that of a big club. And we always do that, so Dom will be disappointed that he gave the media the chance to knock us for disrepecting small clubs.
We win the next 18 games whatever the score line I would swallow my pride and accept how bad the football was, the bottom line is winning matches.
Yeah, the CL win in 2005 was frankly horrid to watch but… who cares.
Yes I remember the lifting of the trophy and had amnesia when it came to remember the first half but bloody hell what a glorious day.
You what?
Well I quite enjoyed it. I took it for what it was, a chance to rotate and give a rest or game-time to various players. I thought the goals were pretty spectacular as well.
Interestingly, I watched it with stadium sound only and didn’t have the half baked opinions of pundits to contend with. I also didn’t realise that the talking points were a single brainfart by an otherwise excellent player, and an opposition player being denied a penalty by an obvious leg breaker from the ghost of Tommy Smith.
The TV companies have to big-up these games. They usually have an agenda of plucky underdogs and potential giant killers. Did they actually mention that Barnsley did play pretty well on their own terms?
Meant the whole run.
There were odd moments of brilliance, Rafa delivered that in my view probably up to the last match and then the players did it in the second half.
Is the penalty the one where Dom gets a touch to the ball first? I wondered why they replayed it a million times.
I watch with music on, only watched with commentary once which was the Spurs game last season. Started during Covid as that crowd noise was meh and just commentary felt depressing.
I have to say that the only time I saw the standard English language Sky coverage was that match that I watched in the bar in Dublin.
If i had to put up with that every week, i probably would have kicked in the telly by now.
But that was outside the box.
Watch it again. It was 2 or 3 metres inside…
Incident starts at 3’ 49"
I still think VAR would have given it for the pull back.
Just watched Wirtz’s movement for the 4th, checked back then spun and went in behind, the movement created the space and their defender was left flat footed.
An a perfect pass from Szob.
