Post match: Liverpool v Bournemouth (EPL 27/8/22 3pm)

Serious question because I’ve been accused of bias towards this player before but when they’re fit would people want to Matip or Konate start instead of Gomez?

Or would people want to see him and VVD get a proper run of games together in CD?

Last time I remember them having a prolonged spell starting together we did fairly well that season (I hope that’s the correct season or I’m going to look stupid, although I’m going to blame the silly amount of meds I have to take which leave me with my head up my arse for the first few hours after waking up ).

Anyway I’ve always loved them playing together as much for their speed as anything else. If I remember correctly Gomez was one of the few people in the squad that was able to beat VVD during sprints.

For me that adds so much extra help to our high press because there are now two extremely quick cb’s to get back for balls over the top.

I prefer Matip and Virgil but on the odd occasion depending on the opposition i like to see Konate/Virgil, but not really bothered which 2 play as long as they play well and we win, love all four.

Gomez’ problem is not only that he is always injured, but generally it takes him a few games to get back to his best. But when he is at him best, Gomez is my favourite partner for Van Dijk.

And what a first timer! Hopefully both Fabio and Harvey will start knocking them in after this.

Don’t you miss a game in here!

Konaté will I think, become ùy favorite partner for VVD.
Matip did an excellent job last season much better than previous years, a stretch without injury seems to do wonders.
Seen Gomez develop and make real efforts in domains, like heading, where he was really very under par. If he can go without injury he’s an interesting option that could keep others out on occasions or even for stretches.
So I reckon Klopp is hopeing we won’t have too many injuries in this department so he can have a headache deciding who to make N°1 RCB.

IMO a major difference in this game was our boys’ mentality. They had the ‘eye of the tiger’ in them. Trent racing back to defend and refusing to be beaten was good to see. So were Fab, Gomez, Virgil and Robbo going about their defensive duties with aggression. Long may this continue!

By default, VVD and Matip are still our best CB pairing in terms of consistency and standard. But if Matip is injured and Gomez does well in his absence, there is no reason for Matip to walk back in by default. Gomez and Konate are at the level where they should be ambitious enough to displace at least Matip and partner VVD.

Great statement win from the reds, and now on to Newcastle, and a more real test! Play with the same intensity from kick off and I believe we can win again (pending @Draexnael 's thread start and @Colossal_centre_back 's thread posting).

Obviously after a sub par start, like many groups of Liverpool supporters, I’ve been talking with my friends exchanging views about what’s going on and what’s the factor that will make the difference.
A lot was thrown to the table, from the need to buy midfielders, to injuries and red cards all over, to Klopp’s archetypical 7th year in a club, to defence, to player’s form…

…one thing I had said there in the discussion, was that even with the players not being injured, even with another midfielder (as correct as those points may be), we would have probably still have had a bad start and struggle to get results because of conceding first.

And that we were conceding first because of over cautiousness and lack of intensity…we were following the game and reacting, instead of using our strength and not letting the other team breathe from the go.
In the EPL, conceding first and chasing the game with the style we play is really hard, as we are prone to concede again and it’s hard to break a bus for us.
With our style of play, in this league, it’s so important to score first, and to do that, we need a great start, we need to suffocate the opponent.

It’s exactly what we did, and if we keep doing that, and and if we continue scoring first and early, I think we’ll find ourselves again. Players back will obviously help, a midfielder added to our injury prone and ageing midfield will obviously help if it’s the right player, but first and foremost is what we saw yesterday.

MOTM Bobby with a brace of goals and a hat-trick of assists leading the mentality described above, and a trademark no look goal for his 100th for Liverpool. What a legend, my favourite Liverpool player in Klopp era, what a delight to see he can still do this. Special mention to Harvey Elliot for a wonderfully taken goal, and an energetic performance, makes this right sight a constant worry with the triangle created. My third vote if we had a poll would be Diaz, for his brace and being the best player in the first half hour that set the tone, along with a great performance overall.

Up the reds!

At least Southampton had someone sent off. Mepham even helped us out with a goal, should have let Diaz have his hattrick lad

Hope we don’t draw Bournemouth & Boscombe in the FA Cup semis

What i like about Mo not getting a goal is that if City won 9-0 haaland would 7. If Spurs won 9-0 Kane would get 6.
Its good not to rely on 1 player.

Now THATS more like it !
As bad as Bournemouth were, we were excellent.
9 goals from 12 shots…clinical.

I know the whole ‘Better to win 9 games 1-0 than 1 game 9-0’ saying…but the lads REALLY needed that.

…and so did we.

looking for cynical/positives
correct me if I am wrong, please
a wee delight from the game is that we were 5 - 0 up at halftime and the last time we did that was last season against also a team that has red and black as its colours . Difference is one is a shower of shite and the other are newly promoted so given a little slack, to get used to playing PL every week  :upside_down_face:

Don’t think Scott Parker is the problem at Bournemouth

Fucking hell. That’s harsh. They’ve been walloped by Arsenal, City and Liverpool, but beaten Villa. What did the board think was going to happen?

I know that managers have been sacked after losing to us before but I’m really not happy with this. Rather takes the sparkle of the result.
