‘I couldn’t respect them more’

FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports on Brentford: "They don’t just have set-pieces, they have a really good idea. They had a chance in the first half with Bryan Mbeumo and I can’t remember who made the pass but the whole situation was like ‘oh my god, this is so difficult.’

"You can always say we were a bit too open in moments like this but it was not the case today. We can’t control everything and they use these moments, have a clear idea and it is horrible. I couldn’t respect them more. Putting such a mature performance like we did on the pitch today is pretty special and I’m really happy with that.

"We had a difficult week. We were not happy with the performances but I have never experienced a season with faultless games every week. It can always happen so you need to react. And we reacted against a difficult opponent. We were really young on the bench and we didn’t get taller when the set-pieces came and we brought them on! The boys did exceptionally well.

"This group is pretty new together but there was a season in 18-19 and we had 98 points. It was not far away from a perfect season but it was not perfect. We won the Champions League and I remember in that season we had two of the most horrible games, ever. We lost 2-0 at Napoli and that was really difficult to watch. We also did it at Red Star Belgrade. It’s not about games you’re not happy with, it’s about reaction. Today was a day where they could have had lots of excuses. I saw just a team who wanted to win this football game. We did it and we deserved it. Mohamed Salah is pretty special.

“We can create an atmosphere, the people are ready. They are always ready to go and we must react to that. It was like that again. The boys showed passion. Anfield did the rest. It’s a special place, we all know that.”

What corner has Endo turned exactly? Lost all the duels, failed with majority of clearances after someone else pressing actions, again was lucky to stay on the pitch. Still no rhythm, breezed past in couple of steps by Brentford players.
No idea what does Jurgen see. Very eager to understand.

You were defo watching a different game to me. Endo made a couple of key tackles, kept the game flowing and made some important passes in transition.

Jurgen is right to say it. It’s good man management.

You’re right though, Endo’s limitations were on display again.

Klopp’s not soft, he isn’t picking him unless he has to. He’s not going to say it in public though.

Nunez awesome, Tsimikas poor start but impressive after , Trent had a lot of criticism good game and Endo a bit slow at times but decent game, Virgil and Matip both very good.

You are a right bundle of sunshine aren’t you? That guy worked his rocks off and Klopp was a lot closer than you to appreciate that.

That is why I wrote that would like to understand where the appreciation comes from. As performance wise from spectators perspective there was nothing to be proud of.

Bad Endo vs Toulouse (45 mins) - Good Endo vs Brentford (90 mins)
31 passes (97% accuracy) - 57 passes (86% accuracy)
0/5 ground duels - 1/9 ground duels
2/3 aerial duels - 2/5 aerial duels
2 possession lost - 12 possession lost
3 fouls - 4 fouls
1 clearances - 4 clearances
0 blocked shots - 0 blocked shots
1 interception - 0 interception
0 tackles - 1 tackles
1 dribbled past - 2 dribbled past

That’s a brilliant result for us. Brentford are hard to play against. Very good, and well done to the lads for their reaction after the last disappointing game! :+1:

So our much malinged defence is the best in the league for goals conceded.

A lot of which comes down to Virgil being back to his best, if we get a proper DM in Jan we’ll push City all the way.

Wonder if we go back in for someone like Doucoure.

Agreed. Klopp should have called him a shit twat and said he shouldn’t have signed him as he’s a waste of money.

The next game will be Happy Endo.

Equal with Arsenal, rubbish must do better!
Anyway what have facts to do with a good moan?

A lot of the time those are 50-50, but in all honesty, when Jota was penalised I thought he did have more of the Brentford player than the other way round.

Generally, apart from the insane yellow for Matip, I didn’t have much complaint with Tierney.
