Also for Salah’s goal, he was literally the deepest man on that corner that started it all. Considering that everyone else was running forward, I’m betting it’s the instructions that he was given. We never commit everyone on such a counterattack, particularly not the deepest players.
I will agree with you on the last point though, but I think it’s a function of gametime more than anything else. Other fringe players in the squad often face the same problem, just like Minamino for example. It’s quite easy to underrate the importance of playing time together.
I agree. These lads just look broken to me. They look like everything is going wrong for them, and it is.
We’ve got injuries upon injuries upon injuries. Just when one of their mates comes back, another one bites the dust. We had a boost from getting in two centre backs, and then the fucking goalkeeper get the shits. It’s relentless. I’ve never known anything like it.
They are being shafted by referees week in week, and it’s not just the big decisions, it’s also the routine stuff. They are going out onto the pitch and getting the shit kicked out of them to complete indifference. And then seeing free kicks awarded against them when the opposition lads fall over. That must knock you.
Then there is just the bad luck. Every fifty fifty loose ball is dropping to the opposition. We’re seeing a succession of spawny goals scored against us, and we can’t get a lucky bounce at all. The goal last night is typically absurd, and one of those that makes even the strongest players think Oh fuck this.
Then there is the whole pointlessness of the endeavour when there isn’t a soul in the stadium to spark off. And before anyone says it’s the same for all teams, it is and it isn’t. We’re all playing in empty stadiums, but it will affect some teams more than others (some teams like Everton derive a positive benefit from not having 30,000 bellends screaming abuse at them while they are playing footy) There isn’t another team in the league where the players and supporters are so symbiotic. Thats Klopp’s big thing. Taking that away is obviously going to have an impact. We don’t drop the home points we’ve dropped this year with a full stadium. The fans don’t allow it, and players don’t let their heads drop in the first place.
Jurgen has got a hell of a job sorting this out, but the problem is that he looks as down in the dumps as the players.
He was there for like two minutes or more and certainly not in any real pain. Pretty sure he’d sat there for that long in the end he was embarrassed to get up. If I was Henderson I would have been going nuts.
On that Salah goal look at his body language. There’s a moment where he half stops and then kind of realises he should be getting forward and tries again, but just a little. He’s a striker, getting forward is what he’s supposed to do, even if he starts from a slightly deeper position to others.
With regard to no knowing I mean that literally. I honestly dont think he knows when to move, or where to move to or he’s terrified of doing something wrong. There was a moment against West Ham where he was on the right wing. A long ball came over to Salah. He should have been working to get on Salah’s shoulder but he just stood there. West got possession and cleared up field and he was still there.
but in all honesty that is my only complaint with all of the players in the squad. At least when you look elsewhere there are mitigating factors, but there is always effort. We’ve been utterly hammered this year with everything that could go wrong has done. But that aside I also think we need to make a few tactical tweaks. I say that for two reasons. One I think that low block problems have resurfaced and two giving the players something a little bit new to try and give them some encouragement and confidence.
Losing to anyone is shit. Losing to a so called big team is easier to take than to one of these lower teams that pack their box and make a squally break every now and then. Anyway, plenty of games left and a few important players to get back soon like Jota as well as some reinforcements at the back with Kabak and Davies to Hopefully slot in soon. That’ll make all the difference to the midfield with some normality restored.
Much much too soon to write the season off yet
Untill a couple of weeks ago we hadn’t lost at home for almost 4 years,we won the Premiership,Champions League and World Club titles in the last 2 years, reached numerous finals in the last 5,broke numerous records in the last 5 years, built the best team in the world over the last 5 years under financial constraints our competitors don’t have,i could go on…
We now have a squad decimated by injuries of which 3 of our main CB’s are season ending, the double whammy of losing those players and then having to play whats left of our best players out of position (losing their main strengths on the pitch) and having to play inexperienced youth ones.
It baffles the shit out of me since the start of this year when we get compared to last season and wonder what the difference is??? like why are we not still playing, competing, winning and breaking records, exactly like last year,i understand it coming from the bias media using this seasons poorer results as a stick to beat us with but not from our own fans who should know exactly why we are getting results like lastnight against Brighton, lets also not forget that they did play really well aswell and have been for the last few games.
So yeah calling us “Disgusting, disgraceful, embarrassing, pathetic, unacceptable, shameful.” is a bit knee jerk for me.
Am I the only one who thought the challenge on Mo was a peno? The one where the Brighton player slid in, studs in the air, following through. He only just nicked the ball cos Mo back out, and good job cos I reckon if he hadn’t we’d be looking at another serious injury.
Klopp has made the odd mistake, like with Jota, and sometimes I think his sub choices and timing doesn’t solve anything, but in the main this is just the storm created by refs, injuries, no crowd, bad luck, and the come down after three intense years.
Our better performances this season have been sublime, we need to remember that. It’s what we’re capable of when the right players are available together.
We just have to fight for the highest possible league place, hope supporters are back next season, and do what we can in the transfer market, ins and outs, to tweak the squad this summer.
Unfortunately, in many business sectors, this pandemic has really helped the largest player in each market to solidify their position, and so it will be in football if the no crowd scenario continues into next season.
City, funded as they are, will be immune, the rest of us will be in a difficult place, especially those who have competitive squads to theirs, and the ensuing wage cost base.
All I will say is that Mini has had less time on the pitch than Origi and has scored and at least moves and gives is all. Origi since the Champs league final has looked way off it and for me just doesn’t seem arsed. It’s sad cos he was an hero after the Barca game, he just doesn’t appear to have the fight to push for a starting role.
Not for me, I said in the in game thread that if Mo had controlled it with his right foot, he would have taken the ball away from the challenge and the tackle would then have resulted in contact and a penalty. For me Mo used the wrong foot.
That is precisely the wrong attitude. There should be no sacred cows, and it’s not inconceivable to think that there are serious problems with Firmino at the moment that might lead to other options being better.
He has never “seemed arsed”. I don’t understand why this is considered a valuable trait. Daniel Sturridge mostly didn’t “seemed arsed” and he turned out alright…
