Post match: Liverpool v Brighton (EPL 3/2/21 8.15pm)

If we play like that against City, they will tear us a new one.

Give it a rest, we do control midfields in almost every game and we did mostly today, teams aren’t going through the middle they are playing and using the space wide. Offensively it is the movement, control and passing in the final 3rd but hey ho you think Origi is good enough

bet they are both kicking themselves…“why didnt we park the bus until the 60th minute”… lol

Especially when Klopp definitely isn’t the best cheerleader around…

In fairness, guys like Thiago and Jota were brought in for that exact reason, but this season has just fucked us on that front due mostly to injuries and a lack of proper training/rest time between matches.

Again - THIS IS WHY UNITED ARE IN THE TITLE SCENE - they don’t play tactical football, they play a regressive style where they run around a lot and hope one of their skill players pops up with a moment of magic, and this season, that style works.

The long term view of our team and tactics is that we should be right back up there competing and winning titles again once things go back to some semblance of normal. Blaming Klopp for tactical naivité or acting like he hasn’t tried to address the glaring weakness is silly. You’re ignoring all of the reasons why we’re in this place now.

It was obvious after 5 mins how this game would turn out.
I’m worried for top 4. This team has zero consistency.
To beat us play two lots of deep 4s and were clueless. Teams are never hanging on its fairly comfortable.
We can’t defend anymore so will give up a few chances and they’ll take one.

@Noo_Noo absolutely spot on. Perfect post. I love the Boss with all my heart but this rests with him.

Van Dijk is dearly missed with the corners we get. We have zero aerial threat at the moment.

You are, though. Every second post is about Thiago.

If he’s passing the ball forward and the players ahead of him don’t take shooting opportunities or can’t control the ball, what else is he meant to do? He must have won it back about 10 times tonight.

He’s not Gerrard, but when players around him do their job he can make a difference. He was excellent tonight and to keep pointing at him as if he was the issue is a pisstake, a complete lack of understanding. Switch Sky and BT off for a bit.

Yet we keep slinging in high crosses we never win in the air

West Ham didn’t really attack to be honest we just had the quality which we didn’t show tonight, Origi taking the ball from Robertson and over passing it summed the game up

Please please show me where I said Origi was good enough. As for midfield controlling game so what did they create anything nope having 65% possession and losing shows it up perfectly.

always amazes me how quickly fans turn against the manager… so so fickle.

Gini is going to take Coutino’s place on the bench for Barca.

Injuries have crippled us, Jota in particular but the leadership of VVD is a massive massive loss. That’s the way of it though.
Our problem is the lack of quality in reserve I think. Shaq, Origi, Ox have contributed very little in a season and a half at this stage.
I love Bobby and when he’s on form we fly but when he’s not…
I’d be willing to say the reason we got Jota in is because of how patchy Firmino has been for nearly a year now.
There were lots of calls to hook Bobby, rightly so probably, but replace him with who? Divock Origi, who will stand around and get in the way more than he contributes.
Ali, VVD, Gomez, Matip, Fabinho, Keita, Mane, and Jota…thats some injury list of quality 1st teamers not to have available.
Ox, Shaq, Div, Taki, (before the loan) and Jones are the back up. I like Curtis but he’s a young player and his performances have been patchy.

So he should have played Davies who just arrived from Preston?

To be fair, though, our form has been poor for a while now.

Showing concern for our form is legitimate; slagging off Klopp and the players who have achieved so much over the last three seasons is wholly unacceptable.

It’s too late to cover ourselves in glory for this season in the league at least, but like was said earlier we can still do ourselves credit. Players deserve to feel that they’re going to be properly lauded by the fans for last season’s heroics come what may, whenever that parade is possible. But will it now happen that way…?

Love Milner. But agree that starting him four games in a row was never going to work. i pointed this out before the game. especially as we know from teh comments after the WH game that Milner had a problem with his leg.

This meant that Milner couldn’t make those runs that were needed in this game. We’d be better off resting him here to be ready for Man City.

The WH game offered a template for low block team with no Mane. Gini as the 6, with Thiago and, should have been Curtis, ahead, with Shaq in the number 10. Allow the fullbacks to push up. Get Salah more into the middle. Use Curtis to break the lines.

Instead we got the Shaq out wide doing nothing in attack nor helping out in defence. A midfield where Milner couldn’t make those runs he usually does as he might pull his hamstring.

We were hamstrung by the line-up and formation I feel today. Of course, the players need to take some responsibility as well.

Let’s fight for top four and go big in Europe.
