Post match: Liverpool v Brighton (EPL 30/22/21 3pm)

This is my point and its proper weird, we seem to let a single event throw us off our game completely. Has happened pretty much every time we’ve gone from dominating and clear winning positions to conceeding 1-2 goals within 20mins.

Missing Fabinho is huge, not only does it mean we miss the energy of Hendo further up field he is a better no.6 also.

lol :sunglasses: he wiffed on a ball, so heard his name and had to double check the line up to make sure

You will also need a Milner replacement as well.

Like many I was hoping to see us coast to a win, somewhere around 2-0.

I said in the pre-match thread that focus and composure would be the keys to the game and I think we really lacked both today. Sloppy passing really surprised me.

I wonder, after watching this if we might have held onto the lead if we had substituted Minamino in for Keita when the injury occurred. I realise Minamino’s not a traditional midfielder but from what I’ve seen he’s hardworking and willing to do what it takes.

I like Ox but he’s just not got the pace needed in games like this.

Some have said Robbo and Bobby should have been rested…I agree. Tsimikas and Jota are fit.

Alisson did the best he could, but to be fair, Brighton are not just another premier league football team. They’re damned good and beat us at our own game.

2 points dropped giving Chelsea a one win lead. If there’s any consolation City, Leicester lost…but drawing matches will do us in…

We put this match in the bottom drawer and move on.

Next stop…European football.

Just watched the game, initially excellent one touch passing and moving. Then … Keita went off and the players were too greedy holding onto the ball too long with the main culprits being Jones, Ox and Sadio, couple with us not working hard defensively and stopping our press we were lucky to come away with a draw. Teams seem fitter than us atm

We are missing his experience and reliability, that’s for sure. The rotten luck with injuries hitting our midfield has only highlighted that. Hopefully Thiago, Millie and Fab will soon be available again, fingers crossed!

I haven’t read through the entire thread yet, so I can only speak for myself. Things definitely aren’t “bad”, but this was a really shit result. Naby going out or not, we still have enough quality in midfield to see out a 2-0 lead on Brighton, playing at Anfield.

Blowing a 2 goal lead has become a trend. An area that needs cleaned up.

Ok, so 3 draws at home. Not the end of the world. But widening the keyhole a bit, it’s a bit troubling.

**Chelsea 6 years ago drew 9 games and still won the league.

I am a little lost in regards to Mane being high up in the motm stats, yes he worked and got back but he was poor on the ball held on to it too long and just kept giving the ball away.

I think we need to be careful assuming incompetence because something doesn’t play out the way you think it should.

With this iteration of LFC we have quite a few case studies now of how they operate regarding transfers and recruitment.

They don’t panic. They don’t act reactively. They don’t compromise. They know who they want and they will wait to get him if necessary.

I absolutely guarantee you that you and I haven’t spotted something about the team that Klopp’s team don’t already know. Whether that’s player durability or capability.

My suspicion is that there are midfielders we are interested in, but they were not available this summer. The club will not go far down that list in search of bodies.

I think (I hope) summer will see a bit of a refresh of midfield with two coming in to replace Milner (who doesn’t seem to be getting a new deal) and Oxlade-Chamberlain. I think Keita might go as well, unless he has a storming season and we give him a new deal.

Klopp on Keita:

He showed me the hamstring and how people told me, it’s hamstring. I cannot say more.

F*ck… that’s several weeks out for him.

It’s very unfortunate and today Brighton certainly deserved at least 1 point (maybe even 3 if I am totally honest) and we were incredibly disappointing in the second half. However, we tend to come back (so far in the season at least) and like @Mascot says, they are only running away with 3 points. That is not a lot. Chelsea looks incredibly strong, but still, they too are likely to drop points. So yeah, only 3 points and chin up  !

I don’t mind the result. It can happen. I think if you’d looked at 7 points from three games that included a visit to Old Trafford, that’s actually not a bad return. It’s just a shame that having twatted Utd, we could make it a clean sweep.

The concern I have is with the performances. We are worryingly open. That’s been the case for a while now, and it’s becoming a trend that we are not secure in a two goal lead. That’s needs sorting. I’m sure it will be.
