On Chelsea, the thing to note is that they a hugely outperforming their XG. They are scoring more and conceding less that the chances they create and give up warrants.
I think this suggests that a return to the mean might be coming.

Also, it’s Tuchel’s first season in England. Let him come to the packed January schedule, and then have a right laugh at them!
For me, it’s still Cheaty we need to look at. They are massive favourites to twat everyone in this league points-wise come May, and a defeat against CP doesn’t change much to it for now. (Of course, it’s still enjoyable to have a good laugh at them right now. )
Completely agree. That’s more what I meant by the result. It was the performance leading to the result. I completely agree with your post.
I think Van Dijk is still getting up to speed again, and we’re missing Fab.
No doubt.
And again, and I don’t know if I’m articulating my point properly, my frustration is in isolation, of this match. Today. Given the context of being up 2-0. We have enough quality to see out Brighton at Anfield.
Maybe its human nature?
But the salivating and creaming after the Utd win is short lived, and maybe a touch too vehemently.
Its ok to be dissapointed with todays result, everyone seemed below par, but the Keita injury was probably pivotal in us losing focus and shape.
We probably should/could have signed a midfielder but who would be content to wait in the wings behind Thiago, Fabinho etc?
Its a bad day at the office, we are still unbeaten, its only quarter way into the season. No need for the pessimism but maybe temper our expectations and know we will occasionally be sub our own enormous standards
Maybe, I haven’t seen all their games. But the ones I have seen, stats or not, I have thought they have always looked like the team deserving to win and that they frankly look like a solid unit (honestly a bit impressed how fast Tuchel made them solid, I thought he would spend 1/2 season or at least 1/4 a season before they looked so strong). But yeah, agree with you, they will most likely drop points sooner or later. And if we are then only 3-6 points behind, we are still in the title challenge. For now at least. Then again, City too will likely come back to better form. For now, the season is completely open with 3 challengers in Chelsea, Liverpool and City. Certainly no reason for us to be up in arms ! We are still most certainly among the best teams in the league.
I think all three will go, Keita slightly reluctantly, as he can play, but I just don’t see his body holding up to be useful enough for us.
I would love to see a group like this emerge:
Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Tchoumeni, Bellingham, Elliot, Jones, Morton.
The first three are obviously quality players, but are starting to pick up the injuries, so the others on the list give them a run for their money right now, and replace them in time.
Best you stop watching games now then, just to save yourself the bother later.

Where to start with that one. Very fucking frustrating! It has no bearing on the game, but it always makes me laugh the amount of over confidence around when we play Brighton. They always cause us problems and are fast turning into a bit of a bogey team. I’m almost more uncomfortable when we go ahead early in games, because we often tend to take our foot of the gas and forget to play football.
I can see exactly what Jurgen means by Jones needing to be consistent. He was shit today. Takes far too many touches and seems too worried about playing pretty football.
Bobby’s passing woeful. Bissouma owned him.
Konate to me looks way to relaxed and doesn’t seem to know what’s going on at times. I know he has plenty of pace, but he only shows it when he really needs to. Needs to be more alert and less casual.
Robbo, works his arse off but his passing and delivery into the box has been crap.
Trent’s defensive headers very frustrating. What seems a relatively easy clearance, ends up being a looped weak header back into the middle of the box causing all sorts of pressure.
If we want to be challenging for the title, we need to tighten up our defence or we are fucked.
Hate to say but could be pivotal weekend in the season
City lose. Chelsea win - we could have done with 3 points
The last five seasons have been outliers though haven’t they? Points totals of 98,99 and 100 is not the norm and won’t be going forward.
I’m not worried about our draws. We’ve met tough opposition at less than ideal times. Hopefully our competitors will face the same over the course of the season.
I am not sure he will ever be a stable player for us. I would be very open to selling him if he returns to some nice form before January (because unless he returns to some good form and plays a few stable games, we won’t get much for him i think). But not my decision, of which I am glad. But if we can get close to as much money as we bought him for, I would sell. Honestly, I don’t think we will get our money back with that player if he is sold this Janurary or next summer. I know many are great fans of him, but I have never seen him play several great games in a row. Just glimpses now and then and he is too old for that to be good enough for me (not that 26 is old, just that it’s around the age where most players are fully developed).
I digress, and this is the Post-Match thread. Sorry for talking about a player who doesn’t even play, but your post kind of triggered my response
I was wondering that myself and thought if it was a muscle problem, then he was rushed. If it’s just a knock causing some pain, then he needs a concrete pill so he can harden the fuck up.
If it’s a hamstring problem, as Klopp has been told, then it’s usually a minimum of 3 weeks.
We’ve had 4 different pairings in 10 games at centre back that can’t be helping.
For a normal player.
His groin injury last saw him miss 6 weeks return for a game and miss another 3 weeks.
Hendo was very good most of the match!
Ox was ok defended well (for him) and created our second didn’t he?
2-2 is better than 1-2, just saying.
I’m glad you said it, some people don’t like us questioning Naby’s dubious fitness record and his low pain threshold.
