We looked great 1st 20 mins with 1 and 2 touch passing they couldn’t get near us
I couldn’t understand why Klopp wasn’t wipping up the crowd a la Simeone?
Respect to Graham Potter who surprised (close to say outplayed) Klopp with formation, lineup, tactics and setup.
Changed formation in game a few times and Klopp was struggling to follow
They were playing chess from the sideline and Klopp decided to move Sadio to the right (long time no see).
Can easily say he is the best British coach right now and hope he gets the chance to manage bigger clubs.
We are 6-4-0.
In the four draws, the goals for/against are 8-8.
In the six wins, the goals for/against are 21-0.
But good luck breaching a Gini - Hendo - Milner midfield or something similar once we take the lead.
Our main midfield when we won the league was Gini -Fabinho - Hendo.
VVD stepped up, not back leaving the space behind him.
It was because Jones went high up field on a pressing thing (when he should have checked himself and stayed on 'his man). VVD pressed up on the midfielder Jones had left behind (understandable but completely the wrong thing to do).
It wasn’t as bad as against Brentford, the worrying thing was where and how we lost the ball. It left us so exposed. Firmino seemed to be the worst culprit.
Hendo was doing a good job and was very concentrated for around 20 minutes then started wondering and pressing too high or getting caught too high up the pitch and VVD and Konaté weren’t disciplined enough to hold the fort.
All our midfield made enormous efforts to regain the ball but as against Brentford we didn’t have someone picking up the second ball. This allowed B&HA to regain the ball and start over again.
It needs sorting whatever is going on. These well organised sides that use essentially set patterns when attacking are causing us too many problems. Of course they have more preparation time as they don’t have CL or many internationals.
We had other moments when we looked really good as well. The last 20 minutes though were poor and I just haven’t a clue how Klopp left Firmino on the pitch so long.
Meh these things happen. It was a draw, not the worst thing in the world. Having said that I would have loved to see Tyler Morton come on for Curtis who looked like he was labouring throughout the game.
Yep.
Bobby has been below par now for about 18 months. I think we need to replace him.
Konate looks that way but I’m not sure how much of it is Virg who understandably isn’t (yet) at the same level as before T-rex.
Shouldn’t need Klopp to do that always.
First, let’s congratulate Brighton for a wonderful game. They didn’t resort to low-block or thuggery, but played good football.
We have conceded 13 goals in 15 games so far this season. More importantly, we have conceded twice or more on five occasions. Now, that’s worrying. Specially considering the fact that we had our preferred back-five in all those games. While none of the players looked particularly out of form (Robertson had a bad game), the sum of the parts definitely looks less than what it should be, by their own high standards.
The midfield looks lightweight without at least two of Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, and Keita, (I miss Wijnaldum). I wished Bobby or Mane switched to midfield when Ox came. Salah was kept on a tight leash last night.
It was a disappointing game, for us, no doubt. But let’s move on.
@Notasuperfan it’s more to do with squad places than anything else, in my humble opinion. Unless we can move on the likes of Ox, Origi etc. any new incoming will result in a bloated squad.
He scored a hat trick 2 weeks ago and was brilliant against United last week
Andy Robertson has dropped back out of our (high) line in 4 or 5 cases where a goal scored would have otherwise been ruled out offiside this season. He has also to be fair been on or near enough to the goalline to stop a goal, from memory, a couple of times.
I’ll have to look at the goals again but my memory of them is the defence stepped up together to play offside except for Robbo who dropped, very deep for the second goal, keeping them onside. He steps up with the rest and there’s no issue.
The most worrying part was did we even create a single chance after conceding the 2nd? Crazy at home that. Should have been battering down their goal but we were holding on.
The space exploited was behind VVD who was completely out of the line pressing forward. You can almost feel him consceiciously debating whether to close down the midfielder or stay in the line. Unfortunately he made the wrong decission. It doesn’t matter who was deepest once that space is liberated.
Fucked that up blind I’m afraid. Two up, strolling it and we just let the game become too wild. The midfield lost it entirely and they had the run of the middle of the park and straight at the heart of our defense almost at will. At the same time, very little was going right the other way.
Some players had an absolute mare tbh, Jones and Bobby in particular while Trent’s clearing headers in the box are lackadaisical to put it politely and just keep us under pressure. Poor result and more dropped points from a winning position which is a concern. Gotta pick it up and get the heads screwed on straight. We’re a formidable team with a great chance to win something big this season but we’ve won nothing yet and a few of the lads need a bit of a ticking off tbh.
Don’t blame him for the indecision, the midfield was being bypassed at will and he was going to be damned if he was and damned if he didn’t.
I’m not I’m just saying what happened but your comment about the midfield on this occassion doesn’t count as all were back defending and it came after our clearance (which is when you need the most discipline and concentration. If I wanted to have a go at VVD it would be in his thread.
Btw VVD and Konaté both had very good and very dopey moments as well, I think their dopey moments make the worst/bigger culprits than the midfield who covered well for TTA and Robbo at times.
