Post match: Liverpool v Everton (EPL 21/10/23 12.30pm)

I’ll talk about the game in a moment but Pawson had a decent game, I don’t think Diaz was a pen and Konate could have gone but the Pen for the hand was stone wall and Coote stepped in correctly on that.

Rest of the game he got it right Young’s second was a yellow and so was his first.

Everton did bugger all after that first 5 minutes. More open than I expected and had stayed 0-0 then Trent would have pinged one over the top eventually.

Thought our start was ok, our second half was dire until the changes, just after Matip comes on we took a short corner and passed it around outside the box (like we had done for the previously 50 mins).

Our best spell was after the red and after we scored. Pickford was absolutely terrible and again bar the save from Elliott if we had put any to the side of him he would have conceded far earlier (which was ironically the issue in the derby last year away).

A very dour game. Everton set up in typical Dyche style to defend at all costs. The sending off made them worse and totally finished the game as a spectacle. A nailed on red card for Young and Konate very lucky not to walk. Three good points if not a great performance.

I can GUARANTEE the MoTD morons will be banging on about this ad nauseam. And the narrative will be “well Liverpool got away with one there so this evens up the Spurs game”

Good highlights of the match there. Nice to see it from the Kop end for a change.

After the international break and another early kick off, this was all about getting the three points.

Job done.

I actually thought we were creating more against eleven men than ten. Once they went down to ten it gave them great clarity in how they should play. Nine men behind the ball, with only one striker more advanced to not defend like their life depended on it.

It was harder for us, but we got it done.

Let’s go through the main decisions:

Young red card. Fully deserved. He got away with kicking the ball away in between yellows and fully deserved three yellows! Off yer pop.

The penalty was the right decision, all day long. Not even remotely contentious.

Konate foul for a possible second yellow? It would have been harsh as he barely touched him, but I have seen them given. When a team is outmatched, as Everton were, they will grasp at straws to make it seem like they were hard done by, but they were not.

Salah’s second goal was well tucked away, but credit to that lad Darwin Nunez. Full of intent and threat, making stuff happen, and a lovely unselfish lay off to Mo for the goal.

Onwards and upwards.

When the Ev lad ended injured against the advertising boards at the Kop end, he received treatment from the med staff and came straight back on to the pitch from behind the goal line. The rules state that he should have been delayed from rejoining the game and enter the pitch from a touch line.
Very basic rule totally missed by Pawson and his assistants.

He technically didn’t go off for treatment.

That rule is in place to prevent a player who’d gone off for treatment entering the pitch in some unexpected place with the game in progress and getting an advantage from it. In this case the restart was delayed until we knew he was ok and so he was able to take his position like everyone else for the restart

He received treatment. If he’d have been on the pitch, he’d have had to go off and come back on from the touch line. Why did Pawson wait so long to restart the game? The lad and med staff were off the field. Then the lad would have had to walk around the pitch to come on at the touch line.

Oh ffs :roll_eyes::wink:

He should technically have stopped the game when Tarwoski went down with a “head” injury but didn’t buy his bollocks that tried to stop the game.

I think he did well, his Pen decision was the biggest mistake (ultimately that’s why VAR exists) and he could have gone with another yellow on Konate but VAR couldn’t intervene due to it being a yellow as it was never a red.

How good is Mo?

Surely one of the only player’s in the world who can turn in a 2/10 performance and leave with 2 goals.

Haaland does it pretty much every week.

On our 2nd goal no one has talked about the pass out to Nunez from Mac, brilliant pass for me

Yeah, that’s true. Perfect counter from start to finish💪

Cracking pass. The extra bit of composure he has makes it possible.

Mac Allister was really good today, made us tick. Whilst we were a bit toothless for long periods some of the football outside Everton’s box was lovely and Mac was often at the heart of it.

I thought that Joel handled Beto much better than Ibou did. Ibou seemed to want toout-muscle him. But Joel just out footballed him. Al. Of the subs had decent cameos today. Joel, Harvey and Darwin really changed the game I thought. And Joe put a shift in too. :+1::nerd_face:
