This was before he was hacked down by Sanchez.
Tongue in cheek.
I thought he looked fine personally fitness wise. He had a decent game. Couple of brain farts, but who didnât.
Itâs good to see the lads progressing. I missed the game, so wonât comment on the performance.
But all in all, seeing Thiago getting game time again, seeing Matip back in the fold, and avoiding any new injury is really excellent news. And we are through and can look forward to another exciting CL tie. Happy days!
Weâve stopped scoring goals. That was my main takeaway from that game. It was odd because I never thought we were in any kind of danger of losing up until the point that we actually were. Sixty seconds after the goal Sanchez was sent off and it was obvious we were going to progress. Then we seem to be caught between wanting to equalise but not wanting to over-commit and allowing Inter back in it.
Mo is well off at the moment. Unlucky with the right footed half volley but he should have buried the earlier chance. Jota also looked a bit lost. Maybe swapping players in and out has disrupted our flow or maybe some individual players just arenât quite at it. Whatever it is we need to quickly get back on track because Brighton and Arsenal are massive games that we have to win.
As much as I hate losing at Anfield, if there ever was a good (maybe I should say bearable) time to lose and have a âreality checkâ what can happen if we do not give 100%, it was yesterday.
As fellow commentators said, on another night the result would be 3-1 or 4-1. Hope we wasted all of our bad luck with those woodworks and missed sitters.
It never felt like Inter would score a second, and in both legs we were clearly the better team although playing just average for the standards of this team. I just hope the players will take that âwake-up callâ seriously and give 100% the next game. The schedule of playing a game every four days until the NT break instead of every three days (as was the case between the final and Inter game) shall make life a little easier.
European night at Anfield is something special for me. It defies all logic. I always want a win and not just any win, an utter and absolute demolition. So a loss is a terrible disappointment, for me.
We are through to the QF, and thatâs all that matters. We didnât need to win, we didnât need a demolition job, we needed to weather the storm. We did, well done. Inter needed to go all guns blazing, and they did, kudos to them. On an another night we would have perhaps won, rather convincingly. Salah must have been practicing hitting the post.
Jota looked off the pace and should have been substituted, Klopp must have his reasons. Onwards and upwards.
My post can certainly be filed under âUseless nonsense SBYM postedâ.
Itâs a large file.
And weâre still gonna win this fucker.
Robbo has been like that for two seasons. Always gives 100% but cannot beat the first man with 90% off his passes.
Having slept on it I just checked, and yes, we are through to the last 8, job done!
Another day we win 3-1 on the night. Finishing not quite sharp enough. It happens. At least now we have some players to shuffle the pack up front and keep the level high as we play through it.
Sanchez deserved to go. Didnât watch any punditry, but they arenât renowned for their insight. Sanchez was sliding in all night and leaving his studs up. The Thiago one alone could easily have been a red.
Martinez is a good player for them. So is Skriniar. A few others too. They are a good team. Cynical with it too. And the ref was all over the place.
So alls well that ends well. Through to QF. Regroup for Brighton, and the sharpness will return.
Your one of the ones I was less âwtfâ about, 538 is really odd for cups I feel. Especially on a game like yesterday.
If Iâm totally honest I reckon we deserved to win yesterday but Inter deserved the first leg as for the width of the post the game is comfortable. Having read his book I can see how some of that factors in but not a lot.
Thatâs a pipe dream in my opinion. We are always harsher on ourselves than other teams.
Every team has periods in a game where they lose control or the opposition does something well. These are top sides full of the best professional football players in the world, theyâre capable of doing some good things.
Also Iâd argue we did stamp it out. After they scored they barely touched the ball, of course then having a man sent off helped that a lot, but we completely took the sting out the game. I know lots of people were panicking about our meaningless home won record but the players were more âprofessionalâ than that. We were 2-1 up against 10 men and they just passed the ball until the final whistle went.
Thatâs a top side.
Exactly this.
Granted, not everyone is a student of the game, but they can easily listen to Klopp, who is very candid in his post match interviews, and outlines this time and time again.
Youâre right.
Again, Klopp in all his post match interviews mentioned the deliberate control we did to manage the game after the sending off. Textbook keep ball, still probing, but showing nous that we were just shepherding the game at that point.
This 100%.
Too much needless panic in a match that aside from a super goal we were in control.
We had a lot of very decent chances to out it to bed, but we never looked like a panic stricken team when the goals werenât coming.
Sanchez was probably paying tribute to his former club Arsenal by getting sent off on English soil.
Ever since Mikel Artetaâs appointment in north London, no club in the Premier League has seen more sending-offs than the Gunners.
(via article on dickhead Schmeichel arguing that no card should be give to Sanchez)
You say the same thing every game.
Hereâs another post, from the Norwich game. Iâve yet to see you back up your âclaimâ with a post game post of mine.
Jones and Taki, headband and shoulders above the rest.
Considering your historic excellence of posting especially around youth football, Iâm massively surprised to see you peddling social media type false band wagonisms.
I think itâs also worth mentioning, when considering our recent âslumpâ in performance (if you want to call it that) that the weather here in Liverpool has been shite over the last couple of weeks and weâve played a lot of games at Anfield.
I was at the Norwich league game and the pitch looked terrible before kickoff, all cut up. I havenât been to any since but I canât imagine it has improved with another 4 games on it in 2 and a half weeks. Itâs also been very, very windy in general over that whole time period as well as pretty wet and cold.
I think I referenced that last night the pitch doesnât look great and I was wondering about the wind on Saturday as WHU looked dangerous in the first half but ineffective in the second regarding the high line.
High line was fine last night mind, Arsenal and Brighton are usually decent so I guess we will see. I donât think we were particularly bad last night mind, I think we were better than against West Ham.

I did notice that actually, any reason? The pitch is usually one of the best in the game.
