Brilliant post, and something that was glaringly obvious during the game. City were deliberately slowing things down to take the sting out of Liverpool’s momentum and quieten the crowd. Unfortunately, Kavanagh’s appalling game management allowed them to get away with it.

IMO, may not be PGMOL, If you are a referee assessor and you were assessing his performance as a referee, surely one of the biggest criticisms would be his complete failure to recognise what was happening. Liverpool were desperate to restart play quickly, while City repeatedly delayed restarts, which should have resulted in yellow cards. Yet Kavanagh failed to recognise the tactics being employed, let alone take the necessary action.

And that’s before we even get onto his inconsistent application of the Laws of the Game and his apparent willingness to dish out yellow cards to one side while allowing the other to get away with similar offences.

It’s not just about individual decisions; it’s about understanding the game, recognising the tactics and managing it accordingly. Kavanagh failed miserably on all three counts.

On the 1st goal, Munoz was also to blame as he didn’t drop to cover Araujo and to help stop Doku coming inside.

I thought the deflection was off Maccas arse not Araujo?

Ah possibly

Only cos someone mentioned in game?

Yet, City were guilty on at least 3 occasions of deliberate fouls where we had possession having beaten the press and no yellows, this isn’t counting other fouls but similar situations as to Grav bookings.

On both of Grav’s supposed yellows they were accidental.

The 1st he pulled out of the challenge and apart from the ref no one else can see any contact , on the 2nd he missed with his initial challenge and it was Doku’s heel that caused the accidental contact.

I tried not to comment on this game because I was so sad.

The only thing I will say is that I find it very worrisome that we have only 9 points after 6 games. It’s a pretty bad start to the season. Not horrible, but bad.

Wifey walked in at 2 - 0 and said oh Liverpool are losing.

My reply is not for publishing but but it might have involved several ‘f’ words, cheating so and so’s and even more of the previous when mentioning the ref.

Poor lass walked in at the wrong moment and said the wrong thing.

BTW none of the expletives were at her. Luckily she knows me well

And I was all dressed in Liverpool clothing with my Liverpool mug :sleepy_face::sob::sob:

It’s going to improve. They are getting to grips with Iraola’s requirements and will start to add more wins as we go. A couple of silly draws, leaky, then tightened up. Then this game against the cheats, with a diminished team.

I think Arsenal and Man City (illegitimately) will be the top two. After that, anything is possible. And I fully expect us to improve as the season unfolds.

Yeah, I hope you are right. We “need” a Top 4 placement though, unless we want to go back to the wilderness.

That was a shocking red card. Worst I’ve seen in some time…game is still bent beyond repair. The corruption is real

An article on the times Kavanagh has cost us in previous games, the corrupt cunt…

https://tribuna.com/en/blogs/history-of-bias-fan-cites-four-occasions-when-chris-kavanagh/

(…)

“When we say Chris Kavanagh has a history of bias against Liverpool and Iraola this is exactly what we mean: Today, October 11, 2026: Chris Kavanagh issued a controversial second yellow card to Ryan Gravenberch in the 62nd minute for a soft foul on Jérémy Doku. The red card broke the 0-0 deadlock and triggered an immediate Liverpool collapse, resulting in a 3-0 win for Man City.

“09 November 2025 (2025/26 Season): Chris Kavanagh refereed the Man City vs. Liverpool game at the Etihad and disallowed a Virgil van Dijk equalizing goal for a soft foul in the buildup. It was so outrageous that Liverpool filed a formal complaint to the PGMOL.”

I’m sure that @jaffod will be able to complete the list.

Kavanagh is the only referee that Jurgen refused to shake hands with at the end of a game he officiated with us…

After i threw a bottle at the door during THAT 2014 game against chelsea, I watch football away from family.

Really, I thought that druggie Coote was on the list too.

Did he shake hands with Tierney?

Is Kavanaugh the guy who hit Robbo?

I think it’s pretty transparent that he went into the game determined to show he wouldn’t be swayed by the narrative around City and an suggestion the league was being engineered to make sure City can’t win it.

That was Constantine Hatzidakis. Tierney booked Robertson for it.
