Having lived in Newcastle for a while, you can’t underestimate just how much this trophy will mean to people. I don’t begrudge them at all. I just wish their club had more respectable owners.
Some of these fans are 60/70 year old and they have supported their club through thick & thin, so I don’t begrudge them their trophy no matter who the owners are, it is the fans that it means the most to
True, but also 2 of my mates from back home are Newcastle fans, and they’re a pair of cunts, so that automatically makes all geordie fans cunts.
It is also the fans who make sportswashing work, by defending whoever their owners are as long as they win them a few trophies, so… Depends on which fans.
For the Newcastle fans having Michael Ashley as their previous owner, they just wanted someone else, they may not agree with who the owners are but still support their team.
Within reason, I’ll support Liverpool never mind who is the owner.
Doesn’t matter who support there are always c#$ts for fans just look at all us on here xxx
See, I draw the line well before human rights abusing sportswashing dictatorial regimes.
Just for that story with his daughter, and for what Enrique has built there after all the divas left, I want them to win it.
Still no.
Maybe I’m a really entitled fuckwit of a fan but it’s not really bothered me.
Then again I am going through a rather large bout of depression so maybe thats what is preventing me from caring more.
Isn’t helping that we don’t play again for so long. When you consider that the squeeze of games contributed to our performances against PSG and SandCastle, the frustration increases.
Just have to hope the lads rest, recharge and come back raring to royal root reverton.
Think it might be good at this moment. We played a lot of football in 2025 and recently had some disapponting performances and results. Certain teams scanning a bit more how to play against us and hurt us. Could be good for a lot of players to switch their minds on something else, for the staff to look at things. Hopefully we get Bradley back soon. And then attack the last finals we have, put this thing to bed.
You’d rather see Barca surpass us or Bayern level with us? Or Real be even more uncatchable? Who’d you rather see as winner from the teams left?
Real are gone, at least for a lot of our lifetimes. There’s more chance that an entirely new competition appears before someone matches or overtakes their CL record.
Oui.
Looking up the teams, I’d have:
Dortmund > Inter Milan > Aston Villa > Barcelona > Bayern Munich (even though that means Kane winning something, urgh) > Arsenal > Real Madrid > PSG.
To put it differently, I’d want the outcomes to be as follows
Villa to beat PSG, Arsenal to beat Madrid, Villa to beat Arsenal.
Dortmund to beat Barcelona, Inter to beat Bayern, Dortmund to beat Inter and then Villa.
EDIT: And as has been pointed out elsewhere, it’s not as though this team has been cheaply assembled. €110m alone this season. €250m last season. €86m the season prior. And these are net spends. The fact that you’d rather them win is already demonstrating the efficacy of the sportwashing.
While I agree about detesting the cash oriented sportswashing clubs, it’s not my only criteria.
So where I don’t agree is that you interpret it as an efficiency of the sportswashing. I don’t think that’s the case.
For me our dominance levels in Europe ranks high in the criteria I consider. So I wouldn’t want Barca to reach our number of European Cups, or Bayern to pass that and us to drop 4th, just to say “oh but look I’m against the sportswashers, so I prefer that my club is now 4th force in Europe rather than joint-third”.
Secondly, entertainment and admiring how a team plays is also a factor for me. I like what Enrique has built, and expensive or not, there’s no galacticos feel in the team, he does have quality players but he still does more than expected.
Thirdly, if we have a few transfer windows in the next few years, that total €400m, as Slot is trying to set up his own team rather than the one he inherited, or as players aging leave and are replaced, won’t that be an expensive squad? Wasn’t it already an expensive squad? I know the difference very well, between their money and our money, no need to explain, but right now it doesn’t seem like it’s what makes the difference between us and them, and like I said, and for me it’s one of the criteria, not the sole one.
So based on that, my order of preference would start similarly, but continue differently.
I’d have:
Dortmund (obvious best choice that ticks all the boxes) > Inter Milan (second because I also like their game and they would have 4 - not too much threatened with 2 trophies cushion I would say) > PSG (third because of the factor you mention, but above the rest for the factors I mention below) > Aston Villa (them getting a 2nd is not too bad, but I see our dominance in England as a European force affected every time an English team wins it) > Real Madrid (just too annoying/boring for the competition to see them win it again, and simply getting further out of reach) > Barcelona (getting level with 6) > Bayern Munich (leaving us behind with a 7th) > Arsenal (simply can’t bear them being in the European Cups discussion and want them to stay a pariah).
Stating the obvious there. Of course they are gone. But how far gone, and who’s the closest is still bragging rights. If we win one before Bayern or Milan do, then it’s Real with what, 14? (lost count already), then us and Milan with 7 and then there’s the rest playing catch up. If we somehow win two before any of the ones around us do, we’re at 8, still far away from Real, but others see us with telescopes at that point, much like Chelsea is doing now, for example.
And we were quite close in doing that, mind you, but for a villain named Ramos and for a diabolical unfulfilled dominance against a Cerberus and his posts…
If we don’t win the cup I couldn’t actually give a shit.
In fact the fact that everyone bar three blind panel know Man City have cheated themselves into their position means I actually can’t be arsed them winning things if we aren’t involved.
Real have 15.
Of course we’d all like to be at least 2nd on that list in coming years. Milan have been nowhere since unfortunate Athens and we were close to get there. It changes with time, but I don’t know if any team in history was ever so far ahead like Real now.
But I’m also very much focused on us. If we can’t win it, just wanna see good football.
Was pretty sure I had lost count
Point was, the better, the…um, better…
Hence my order of preference.
