Post Match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 1/1/24 8pm)

Nunez might be struggling in front of goal but he is torturing defenders. Imagine having two CB’s trying to contain him while Salah is lurking about. Fucking nightmare that.

Thanks mate :pray:t2:. I have just finished reading the Pre-match thread.

:joy:     Our Jurgen, the plonker, bless him! I am sure Ulla will let him off after such an intense game

Liverpool get a decision in their favour, whilst winninng a match and looking more in control?

@JU97ICE has already put the argument succinctly. Over the course of the game a litany of poor decisions may have cost us.

Joelinton was acting like a thug all through the first half. No card. This allows him to slam into a dangerous tackle, and only a yellow. He gets a bit of mud on his face and Drury calls him a warrior. For fuck sake.

The Jota penalty?
I think we all know its a penalty, so why are we even debating it?
I foresee this being trotted out as an example of us getting a decision in the future.

In our last five matches, we’ve had 129 shots.

That’s ridiculous.

No. That’s what happens when teams start to play deeper against us.

The dodgy dive aside, I don’t think I’ve really appreciated how good Jota is.

Definitely a game changer

The sad thing is that if he stays on his feet, tries to compensate for the contact and then fails to score, the penalty would likely not have be given. He was, I think, playing the percentages (which is sad in a way).

To an extent the foul by Joelinton that should have been a (one of the many) yellow, where play was allowed to go on, is sort of an example of this - if our player goes down, it’s a clear yellow. He didn’t and the fouling player escaped punishment and the ref escaped making a decision. If Jota manages to stay on his feet by compensating for the contact, the ball is that much further from his control and the angle that much more difficult - the risk of missing was obvious. He played the percentages.

edit: It was a penalty nonetheless

Yeh, I heard that arse licking comment from Drury.
“The face of a warrior”.

I have been clipped whilst running at speed and never fell like that! Didn’t look natural at all to me and I’m sure plenty here would not be happy if it went against us (see that Everton peno they got when they beat us at Anfield).

Nice it was given our way for a change though.

The modern Vinny Jones? Well a may be a pantomime/modern version at least.

Vinny Jones would be considered a wimp when Smith/Hunter/Harris were plying their trade…
Drury is fast becoming a noise machine for the oil clubs

Aren’t they all?

Would have been a travesty if we’d dropped points. Absolutely dominated them the whole game.

Yet again we were far too profligate in front of goal. got away with it in the end but it’s why we get results like the 0-0 with United and it will end up costing us unless we become more clinical.

Jones with his best performance in a Liverpool shirt. I’ve never been his biggest fan but if he can keep those confidence levels moving forward then I’ll have no worries.
Endo played well again and Konate got my 3rd MOTM vote.

Taylor is a cunt but we already know that.

Totally agree with that. He was everwhere , his decision making was good and he was holding and releasing the ball just when he needed to. He had a real swagger about him last night as if he’s finally realised just how good he is.

:sweat_smile:Of course

Same here, but on a number of occassions the clip caused me to miss the shot/goal as i couldn’t regain my composure in time.
While playing for a local side i have said to the ref that the keeper had clipped me causing me to miss the chance and his response was i should have gone down.

I never thought there was any point talking to a ref. They were either completely incompetent or incompetent with an agenda. At the time I passed the refereeing off as the level for the level we were playing. Maybe its just universal…

There’s clearly still some animosity from the Newcastle coaches, particularly Jason Tindall, towards Klopp and co. They think they’re better than everyone and act up - reminds me a bit of Lampard in the attitude.

Fuck them I say.
