WHAT HAPPENED? Asked his thoughts on the new rule — which permits only one coach to be in the technical area at any one time — Klopp responded: “I think it is only a problem for one team: Newcastle. Sorry!”
But those other decisions pale in comparison with a penalty 10 mins before the end of a match with the score at 3-2.
Your argument would carry more weight if it had been 4-0, but Newcastle still had a chance of equalising at 3-2.
If the ref was really biased against us he wouldn’t have given that penalty.
Either that, or he was really crap at being biased.
Oh, and at the risk of being boring, I think it was a penalty.
Taylor wasn’t biased, he was incompetent like the vast majority of the English referees. He could have easily not given any of the two penalties, VAR would have backed him up.
We created our own problems by being abysmally bad in front of the goal. Dubravka had a career game but he didn’t make a single save that he wasn’t supposed to. Diabolical finishing on our part kept them in the game along with the two brainfarts at the back.
Second half Salah was a sight to behold, two goals, an assist and setting up another. Bad time for him to be leaving, he will be missed a lot. Diaz was a pleasant suprise; by far his best game in a long time. However Man of the Match goes to Jones. He covered every blade of grass, distributed the ball efficiently and got the all important second goal. He is turning into a top class midfielder.
If Southgate was able to move past his fixations, Jones would be part of the England team for the summer.
Thank God he isn’t. Long may it remain that way.
Maybe , but he wouldn’t be starting XI material.
Its not boring to know that it was a penalty.
There is no way it cannot be given.
It could easily not have been given. We’ve all seen penalties like that not given. The contact was minimal and if you were a ref who wanted us to drop points, you would be able to not give it on that basis.
Giving it is negligence if you really are anti LFC.
Have the rules changed that professional fouls like Joelinton’s aren’t a yellow card offense anymore?
Apologies if already posted but
The day after and it feels great to be top of the league, although there’s a long long way to go, and Man City (the cheats) are favourites.
One thing I liked on the coverage here in the States was that Robbie Mustoe in the studio brought xG into it.
After some discussion and analysis, because it almost started to sound like a hard luck story for Newcastle, Mustoe brought xG to the discussion. He sounded very old school as he introduced it, saying not everyone likes all the modern stats and so on, but he said there was one stat that showed Liverpool’s dominance. He explained that with the chances we had we should have scored SEVEN goals, and that Newcastle can have no complaints at losing.
The argument about wether Jota dived or not is irrelevant as Dubravka has confirmed he tripped him and it was a penalty I think he is going to get a bollocking from Howe who thinks it shouldn’t be a penalty
I think Jota probably could have stayed on his feet and scored. There was contact and he went over. Had we conceded it I would say it was a bit of a soft one, but in the context of the Premier League, they are given week in and week out, so no qualms there.
The worst of the officiating was Joelinton. He’s a fouling grock. When the ref waved play on to give the advantage, he should have gone back to Joelinton to give him a yellow. He did not.
Consequently he carried on fouling, with impunity, and some of them were getting dangerous. A couple of our players objected, the ref seemed to be losing the plot and losing control, and he waved his yellow around to give several players belated Christmas cards.
Eventually Joelinton got booked, and Eddie Howe hooked him as he could see the writing on the wall. He had already done enough for 4-5 yellow cards, so Howe took him off before the inevitable red came along.
Hopefully Newcastle have a horrible month. Sunderland are a good level below, but the local rivalry in the cup makes that uncertain.
I hope Villa beat them in the league, and much as I can’t stand Newcastle, I do want them to cause Man City to drop points as they are the main hurdle to our league chances.
I love the fact the penalty on Jota was soft and it was given. After the Spurs game I don’t give a fuck if we are labelled LiVARpool all season and get soft as shit decisions every game. Fuck 'em.
I think that’s what he tried to do. It was an open goal and an easy tap in but he was off balance by then.
The two players that worry me for fouling with Newcastle are him and Gordon. It’s not even the snide nature of it, it’s that they actually put players safety at risk.
That and the Arsenal pen.
Taylor has a choice. Give the pen, hope VAR overturns it. Not give it and VAR gives it and makees him look a fool.
He choises percentages.
Liverpool won’t lose the match, Salah has already missed.
This looks a big call in our favour.
But its not. Its a penalty and Taylor looks vindicated.
He should have booked Joelinton in the first half, but ge gave him license to be a cunt later.
Thats the bias part of it.
I don’t see any issues with Taylor in terms of bias last night. He isn’t a Tierney level twat. He doesn’t award us two penalties, and turn down a Newcastle shout, if he’s biased.
But he does lose control of games. That’s something I’ve noticed before.
Late back from the game last night so no chance to post. Brilliant Atmosphere in atrocious weather, absolute top game from Players and Fans alike.
First of all Anthony Taylor was a C##t through most of the game. We beat him and the other 11 C##ts despite his best efforts to ignore multiple fouls from Joelinton and just the one yellow. They should have had 8 men left on the pitch with a decent ref. We were lucky half time came or I swear he would have sent at least one of our players for questioning his decisions. Petulant fat bastard.
On the game we were all over them and should have won by 10 but one or two players didn’t perform at their best particularly in the first half… Second half was magnificent. The spirit of belief in this team is incredible….we looked like Champions.
It’s funny…when you watch on TV it looks bad when we concede a soft goal but at the game you see the whole picture. Our high press really is our defence and it’s impressive. We hunted them down last night. Awesome! But a moment of lapse in the press and decent strikers will get their chances. I almost think that when we have to defend set pieces and corners the lads are taking a bit of a rest from the intensity of the press!
Criticism of Darwin? Yep he’s lacking goals. It looks like a confidence issue for me. When he gets the ball his first instinct is to look for a runner and offload?…not what you would expect from a striker. Strange one. I also think that he knows he hasn’t won over the crowd yet. Whether he turns that corner and starts backing himself and bossing it is entirely down to him I think. We will see…
Outstanding player of the night ….Curtis Jones
Cool, confident, come the day come the hour the boy is now a man.
Yeah he wasn’t very good but there wasn’t anything obvious to me last night.
Annoying in the game but nothing on the scale of that Burnley game which obviously felt bent.
