Post Match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 1/1/24 8pm)

I have always been a massive fan of Joe Gomez. He has had some bad injuries and has also looked rusty recently (understandably) and at times overly criticised. On current form, for me he starts ahead of Robbo.

How the fuck can you feel hard done by after you played a game with the highest xG on record against you?

Hes a dead man walking and knows it he wont be in charge next year he may see this season out debatable but he is sacked in summer.

again, I don’t really care though! It’s the overall picture that matters. His goals per game ratio is the third best at the club, his assist numbers are great and the no of chances he creates make him a net positive.

Just saying ā€œoh, but he misses a lotā€ misses the point of why Klopp keeps picking him. It’s a lazy understanding of how football works.

Jota foul…wether it was or wasn’t…the commentators heard the var bods say we have seen definite contact…so it was deemed a pen…if it had happened to the sandcastle…they would be gloating…so sorry…tough shit…and bog off home…

Who has been calling him shit? We can all see his strengths but pretending he doesn’t have a couple of weaknesses is pointless! I think he was subbed off because the red mist was starting to descend. That’s an issue, and so is his finishing  Far from shit though!

He’s a fantastic player when he’s doing everything other than putting the ball in the net, which isn’t exactly ideal for somebody who gets such a vast quantity of high quality chances.

Going forward, maybe he’s going to have to be moulded into more of a creator, because he regularly shows great awareness and composure in setting up his teammates, but too often completely loses his head when the onus is on him to score.

Answer the question, John!!

Klopp doesn’t fully trust him because hes not a nailed on starter.

again, why does he get pigeonholed for this though? Yes, I want him to put more of those away, but his GPG ratio is better than Gakpo and Diaz’s.

Yes, he is.

Fair shout. Robbo has been invisible for months.

If that is the case that is unfair, but it always strikes me that the discussion about him is fairly balanced. He’s very frustrating so people are going to explode in the moment now and then

You have to take into consideration both chances he creates but crucially also the conversion rate of chances ,when objectively assessing how good he has been for the team, not just how many goals he scores per game.

Imo, he misses much too many chances and I don’t understand why it can be attributed to hate to point out that he may not be good enough for a team who wants to be champions (i.e. best in England etc.).

I don’t think he does enough for the team. I’ve been on the fence for a year, thinking he should not be judged in his first season, but I am very unimpressed with him. But he does what Salah does well, run and create space for others. But Salah is the better player, more reliable (despite not being in his life’s best form)…

My opinion anyway.

Nah I’m really looking forward to getting Robbo back. He’s gonna be pumped for 2nd half of season!

I honestly think we’d be stupid to fuck with the chaos Darwin creates.

Trying to remember if you were saying the same things about Bobby.
And hope I don’t see a reply ā€œhe’s not going to be as good as Bobbyā€, unless it’s banter (@SBYM I’m looking at you, don’t get beaten).
