Post Match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 1/1/24 8pm)

Nobody’s disputing that first point, though? My point is clearly the undue scrutiny he receives relative to our other forwards, in the present and recent past, particularly given his overall output.

Yep, he causes meyhem, which in itself is no bad thing because it opens up opportunities for others. Unfortunately his stats don’t look that great, but at least Klopp knows his value.

I don’t really agree with that. But that’s fine. Mane in particular, had an X-factor and games where we could play for 500 min without scoring, he sometimes saved for us with a twist, turn and tempo shift that no one else in the league really had. On off days, Mane often saved you. Firmino was generally scrutinised a lot in his last season or so I thought. But Firmino was often also an option coming on from the bench. Nunez is supposed to go for 75-90 min as a substitute for Mane. And I don’t think he comes close to what Mane contributed for us.

But of course we can win the league with Nunez. I am just saying that it will be a bit more difficult than with a more reliable striker, that is all. Never meant to say that he isn’t a good player, he clearly is. I am just saying that i don’t think he helps us out enough and that he is not as good as I would like one of our front men to be.

Attaboy!
Any fun at the Caf?

‘Sensational game from my team’

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Newcastle

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "It was a sensational game from my team. We started extremely lively. Everyone saw Dubravka or we ourselves made sure the score didn’t get too clear.

"Super game. I loved so many aspects of the game bar the goals we conceded.

"Unbelievable game. Unbelievable atmosphere. Counter-pressing wise it was for football schools. They have to watch that, take it and keep it. It was everything good.

"The show must go on. We now have five or six days so three training days. It will change the world from a freshness point of view.

“Dominik Szoboszlai with a hamstring, we hope not too serious. Other players felt it as well. It’s super intense. But there’s no alternative if you want to win football games.”

RIDICULOUS amounts of boiled piss.

Fair to say they don’t like JK or Mo very much.

How old was Mane when he came to Liverpool, and why are we comparing two players of a very different position and role? Only common thing is they are there to score goals too, which I get, but is he really the player to compare him with?

JK  Darwin.

Terribly?

I don’t think balance is the issue. I don’t know anyone who isn’t desperate to see him do well - because if he sorts out these issues with his composure and finishing, we have one hell of a player.

He is brilliant on Salah’s goal. Wins the challenge in the middle and plays a really intelligent flick on to play Szob into space, and then play Mo in when many players would have shot.

We all know what he can do and what he could be. This is why when he fucks up simple one one ones, which he does with regularity, it is so, so frustrating.

Suarez joined us just shy of his 24th B’day if my Maths are correct. Whilst being different in style, you can see similarities. Suarez took at least a season to become prolific.
I am pretty confident it will click with Nunez, I am a massive fan of his and yet he frustrates me as much as any other fan. As it is, he is a starter, he occupies defenders, lets them know they are in a game. Yeah, at times (more often than not) he frustrates, but having been a defender myself I would rather he wasn’t starting.

‘No one has to worry about Darwin’

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Newcastle

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports about losing his wedding ring: “That would have been really awful. I lost it in the sea once and needed a professional diver. I had a massive shock but it’s back.”

On Mohamed Salah: “Mo is a goal scoring machine. It would have helped if he’d scored the first penalty. It is extremely special. Darwin had chances too. I would say 99.9% of players would have finished it themselves but he chose to pass it. Special game, special night.”

On Darwin Nunez: “Of course he’s not happy with not scoring. I saw him involved. Football is a pretty simple game, put the ball in the back of the net but that boys have to do a lot of stuff besides that. He kept Botman and Schar together. We needed him there. As long as Darwin has these moments then it’s all fine. Darwin will score. Social media is a bit of a disturbance slightly. No-one has to worry about Darwin. He played a really good game with a really unselfish pass to Mo and he scored a goal.”

Maybe if we stopped comparing him to Mane and Suarez (2 of our greatest players ever) and just let him be himself :man_shrugging:t2:
