Post match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 24/4/21 12.30pm)

I still think we can attract good quality players without Champions league. Excluding the European Super league debacle, Liverpool FC still is prestigious club and Jurgen’s name still has pulling power for young players who want to learn under his mentorship. We also have great training facilities with the AXA Training Centre.

Fabinho goes back into midfield and we win three straight games.

He drops back into CB and we draw two straight games.

We were just too soft in the middle of the part today. I’d rather have Rhys Williams at the back and Fab back in the midfield.

It was our entire 1st choice front 3 + Jota our “2nd choice” who squandered at least 6 golden chances today.

This is the problem;

Dominate the first half, miss chance after chance, and give up easy chances over the top
Come out the 2nd half with no energy
Continue to miss chances
Continue with the high line
Nerves set in, we stop retaining posession, panic clearances, giving it away
Conceed

Abysmal mentality really. We’ve gone from a team who would always find a way to score, to the complete 180 and have become a team who always finds a way to conceed / lose.

Players of the level of Jota will still want to come here, and given Klopp’s ability to make the most out of them, we will be good. But we won’t spend 150m net, because that would be a level of investment in order to attract the very biggest talents in the world. But these ones won’t join, even if we had the money to buy them.

On the flip side, these Arabian oil billionaires can enable us to spend big even without CL football.

But that’s happening because no matter how many chances they squander, in Klopp’s eyes they are still the best we have got.

Imagine I as Mane would know that I’ll be substituted by a fully fit firing Origi if I keep missing chances after chances OR the same Origi plays some meaningful minutes thus providing me much needed rest, I think I do convert some chances in that scenario. Or worst case Origi comes for me and convert those!

Again this isn’t defending Mane mind, but defending selling the likes of Mane.

Buying 6-8 players (2 CBs, 2 MFs, 1-2 FWs, 1 FB) at Jota level will cost that much, and IMO we can still pull off a Sancho bid.

For example:
Konate
Botman
Kelly
Suarez
Barnes
Watkins (I saw some Watkins rumours)
Camavinga
Neuhaus

Sancho

And if there’s one lesson we can take from the last week, it’s that the most important thing in football and in life is to get as many unearned advantages as you can.

That’s why Manchester City have become the most popular team in England among fans of all other clubs. :raised_hands:

Anyone will join us for the right wage. Players don’t care for CL as much anymore . We offer 100k a week plus to lads they will take that over CL at times. Sure no CL gives players an excuse to ask for bigger wages

Fucking disgraceful.

Chelsea will get third, we got a slight outside chance of 4th. Leicester will struggle with their run in so gotta hope West Ham drop points.

This Liverpool side had the glory of the past 3 years but now they have to own that they have become a laughing stock.

Fucking dreadful.

Ah imagine ending up in that fucking UEFA Conference League as well. Fuck my life how the mighty have fallen

Problem is Newcastle managed to do in 3 mins what we haven’t been able to do in the previous 90 and that’s score more that 1 goal.

Could / should have scored 5 or 6 today but this is becoming the norm for this Liverpool side.

Dominate the game, sometimes score 1, still come away with a maximum of a point.

Don’t despair Richieh,
At least we won EPL and Champions league. The clubs ahead of us right now will also have their own setbacks next season. I can’t see West Ham going very far in Champions league, they are not used to it. They may falter abit in the EPL next season. Also, Chelsea, let’s see how far they go, before exhausting themselves.
We need a rest. Next season, everyone will be rejuvenated.

No, they didn’t.

Were there any anti FSG protesters outside Anfield today, curious?

Barring a fucking stupid law change they did.

Let me rephrase… put the ball in the net.

This season was always going to be tough but missing o it on top 4 - I NEVER thought we would do that.

Granted injuries etc but grrrr

Let’s look at a positive… Before this Newcastle game… I think all of us would be content with getting 4 pts from the 2 matches against Newcastle and Man United… Which simply put would be a win against Newcastle and a Draw against United.
Now since we drawn this game. What if we do the unexpected and beat United next weekend… It would still be 4 pts from last 2 games… With 4 games to go and a possible 12 pts available after the United game.

It’s not completely over… Just have to now win our last 5 games starting with United.

Leicester ends the season against United Chelsea and Tottenham.

We struggle against Man Utd at Old Trafford. It is not impossible, but it is a very difficult task. Other teams need to drop points to help us.

Yep, need to rely on the blue shite dropping points now as well, which I’m sure they will. The thought of finishing below them makes me sick to the stomach.

Even when we have been playing at a really high level the last few seasons we have talked up dominating Utd when playing them away, but it never happened. From memory we played utter dross away at OT like we couldn’t rise to the occasion. Might help that we will be going there as underdogs on form this time around. If we play like we did today we will be in serious trouble.

Jota was wasteful today. A poor performance from him. But Firmino has been dreadful for a
year and Mane has been awful for 4 months.
Mane and Firmino need to dropped now.
We need to see the ruthless side of Klopp. Less cuddling more arse kicking.
