Gakpo is also a concern.
In a season when his form has ‘fallen off a cliff’, I don’t think Mo should’ve publicly thrown a strop because he was dropped or substituted during a game. His public outburst has definitely affected how fans react to his continuing poor performances. I certainly don’t believe that any Liverpool fan hates him though.
Too much bleach, Maria!
Maybe dislike is a better word than hatred.
I just don’t understand it tbh how people use the phrases ‘fallen of a cliff’ and his ‘legs have gone’. Sure his end product has been lacking, but there have been signs since the early season of it coming back, like the assist yesterday and the goal on wednesday. Also, the endless talk of him not tracking back is not due to him not wanting to do so, but the instructions given from Slot to have the right wing balance more offensive. Its not like mo doesn’t fight for second balls or be out of the form when we are in defensive.
Also, in a off season he still has 9 goal contributions in 16 games, which is much better than all our other forwards other than Hugo.
Edit. My original post was directed towards a comment where the poster said bench him and get rid of him, so maybe that kind of attitude towards one of the best players in Liverpool ever just hits a nerve for me.
I need to cut the quantity in my mop bucket! ![]()
I don’t think that’s fair. We created a lot after the first 30 minutes. Even those 30 minutes all we did wrong was back off too easily and show a lack of aggression. Which of course is a worry but from the point VVD but in a thumping tackle that resounded around Anfield everything seemed to fall into place. It’s that we need from a captain at times, leading by example.
Mo was dropped due to his lack of defensive duties and the signs aren’t really there for him coming back in to form.
Yes he did have the assist but it wasn’t the hardest pass.
He has definitely lost his pace, he had 5 yard start on Trippier and Trippier caught him and he rarely goes past his man.
However, he never hides and us always an outlet, but opposition teams don’t fear him anymore and they target our right when he plays.
He does deserve tge respect but lost some of it with his outburst.
And most of those 30 minutes the ball was out of play, thanks to how long set pieces are taking, a blight on the game.
I missed that, first 30 minutes down our end the rest down their end was what I saw ![]()
.
I look back now to his games early on in the season…and wonder if something happened to his dad then..and it was playing on his mind…cause yesterday he was excellent…just a thought…
He’s slower than all the defenders he’s faced this season. That’s leaving aside the fact he’s stunk the place out with very under par performances.
Have you been watching our matches?
I didn’t notice that as I was too concerned about our defence backing off faster than the midfield ran. Us being far too soft and Gravenberch hiding his head in the sand like an ostrich (which he does far too often btw when it gets physical).
Couldn’t stop the waterworks after reading this
The first half hour was as disjointed unenthusiastic and soft as we have seen all season and Newcastle scored. After that the playing group seemed to do a two finger communication to Slot and play a style we haven’t seen all season.
The ball was mishit by szoboslai and mo didn’t receive the ball to full pace which gave trippier time to recover. Also, its not easy to run faster with the ball than a defender in full pace. He did leave behind his man when he missed later on in second half. It seems like theres a lot of confirmation bias when it comes to mo, with remembering his bad moments without acknowledging whats been good.
If you look at his stats (and actual performances) in the last 5 games his played for us, his been good and much better than in the first part of the season, which would imply his closer to getting himself back to his own level.
Sure, he plays against full backs who usually are very fast in todays game. Still it would be ignorant to not take into account that he’s been better now than in the first part of the season.
And yes, all of them since 1998, have you?
Yesterday was the Ekitike-Wirtz show so he feels a bit left out of it and it was similar on Wednesday albeit he was a bit more involved. He will eventually dove tail with those two but leaving him out will only make things worse. IMO his presence occupies the FBs and allows more space for those two.
He’s slower than the centre backs!
It’s not hatred. Its resigned recognition that he isn’t good enough anymore for us in the PL. He’ll likely be our second best goal scorer of all time for a minimum of 6-7 years (more likely for another decade or more) - that won’t mean he should be playing for us then; just as it doesn’t mean he should be playing for us now.
Atko always has the right words of the day.
