I love the reverse psychology @Mascot. Last night’s three points were largely down to you!
In a similar vein they got away with a bunch of fouls (w/o a yellow) that were designed purely to break our rhythm - coincidently, a number of these were committed on Elliot. Their overall game plan was to disrupt rather than play football and (obviously) hope to nick a goal - very Burnley esque! This isn’t entirely new as more illustrious (but still seeped in mountainous shithousery) teams than Burnley have used this ploy - RM, AM and MC for example…
It is pretty simple. Clock stops because you are down, you have to leave the field.
Yellow cards don’t achieve much at all, though I agree about the enforcement of the 6 second rule when the GK is obviously dawdling.
As someone who played for years in the US with this method of time keeping, this is exactly what happens. It gives the refs no more tools to address time wasting than they have already and adds tot he issue. The only “benefit” is transparency, but it also comes at the cost of the players spending the entire game yelling at the ref to “stop the clock”
Right, but they don’t actually get to take time off the clock while doing it. Very hard to directly address gamesmanship solely directed to stop momentum, I can’t think of a sport that truly is able to do that. But equally, I can’t think of another sport that actively rewards it by piling on a bonus of shortening the game.
It will stop the fans and managers moaning that not enough or too much time (depending whether you are losing or winning) was added on.
Have a look at the in match threads.
We are losing and the board goes up…wtf only 5 minutes.
We are winning…board goes up…wtf where did 5 minutes come from.
And every single game ever where a goal is scored beyond the time originally said was going to be added there is a collective “where did that extra time come from” as if the rules of the fucking game arent explained every time previous a goal was scored in this way.
I genuinely think there is a sizeable group of fans actively committed to refusing to learn the rules of the game.
I was surprised they actually stuck 4 on at the end of that Bournemouth.
They wanted us to get 10
When do we get the “Inside Anfield” from last night…
Anyone understand the the winning goal celebration with Elliott and Fabio, with guns toting ?
Lots of people moaning on Twitter especially a week after the 9 year old shot in Liverpool.
It’s been Carvalho’s celebration for a while now. Bit silly but caught in the moment your not thinking.
I think it’s dictated by the situation. No Isak in a position to take advantage of the space = make the step forward is legit, Isak there to exploit the space = hold. The danger of the passer who was in possession was not such to warrant the step forward.
The other thing is, once VVD committed to close down Almiron, shouldn’t he have either made him pass backwards or forced the ball out of play so the team could regain its shape? He’d be back at CB and Robbo would be back. Neither got tight enough on Almiron
Is this a report to deflect the Newsandcastle bench throwing water bottles at our technical area…
Trying to play victims…
Not sure… but it is possible eh
Exactly, cleverly timed to take the heat off Newcastle’s abhorrent behaviour on and off the pitch
He is that clip in his player thread.
