Now the match. Let me say up front our defending was atrocious. 1st goal for them was a cracker. 2nd Allison, what were you thinking? 3rd goal? Were we playing musical statues? 4th goal comes after a decent penalty shout for us. Another deflection for them. 5th goal? Fab hang your head in shame.
Fab looks like he’s running in treacle. The less said about Gomez the better but how sloppy and careless is VVD? He was imperious but is now a shadow of his former self. That arrogance (that Souness had) has gone from him. No way he’ll be remembered in the same bracket as Hansen and Lawrenson.
Thought Bajetic did as good as could playing alongside Fabinho.
We need 2 midfielders and a central defender. Time to be ruthless and clear out the players who’s legs have gone.
What’s annoying is that was never a 5-2 if it wasn’t for our powder puff soft underbelly. We need that hardness back from 2 seasons ago sharpish.

With over 3 weeks before the second leg, it will either be chance for the returning players to get game time to inject some optimism, or an excruciating wait for them to finish us off.
The Barcelona game is the mindset needed. We will give up chances, as we did in that game, but need that element of fortune along with some clinical finishing.
An early Origi goal gave some belief in that game, which allowed us not be gung-ho for all the first half. Then the quick succession of goals in the second.
Because we welcome all types here, this isn’t RAWk.

I wonder how the analysts communicate their data to the coaching staff. We highly seasoned analysts see the obvious, surely that should come out in the analysis of the game. Would really be quite interesting how you take the data, how you distil it and then form a coaching plan around that.

Disappointing result. When we were 2-0 up, I thought, maybe a miracle will come our way. Alas, it was not our day.
Our team needs to be rebuilt. We need to have better quality players to match Real Madrid pound for pound in order to beat them. We can do it with the right players. Real are world class when it comes to Champions League tournaments. They will be tough to beat again this year.

If we played like that first half we probably would.
Problem is our levels have been about 5 leagues lower. That first 30 probably wins most games we’ve played.
Klopp possibly manages it better in the cold light of day, League game I reckon we become more compact but there was a 3rd goal at 2-0.
