Post match: Liverpool v Spurs (EPL 16/12/20 8pm)

Sorry, it maybe the Gin but i dont know how to quote. You hit nail on head when commenting on our patience/restraint. I am posted something similar in the Fulham post but for the wrong reasons in that we had lost that strut/composure and were looking rushed. Today, although not perfect was more like it.

There were alot of Fouls which reminded me of Inter Milans CL win under Mourinho. How Aurier never got booked is a joke, there was the double Sissoko foul on Gini as you mention, holjberg doing his usual (although I think he is a good player) amongst others. Kane suddenly collapsing after a headed clearance. Fortunately, football won tonight!

I thought Mane was sensational. He didnt get much change out of Aurier (a surprisingly diligent performance from an erratic player), but the last ten minutes, in which the ivorian was blowing out of his arse and constantly out of position I think was the perfect illustration of the two teams. Mane got no protection at all and got kicked from pillar to post all game, and by the end it was his tormentor who was on the ropes. I thought there were a couple of times that mane was going to blow up and lash out, but the way he just kept his head down and made progress inch by hard fought inch was a honour to watch.

For me the only two things more enjoyable was firstly the maturity and influence of Jones’ performance. But mostly it was the note perfect reaction from Klopp to Jose’s post-game bluster. I cant imagine Jose can think of anything worse than pushing a button and seeing a towering set of teeth standing over you laughing at what he assumes must be a joke. “The better team lost”…have you heard the one about the duck who walks into a bar and asks the barman if he has any nails?

Here is a nice cross section of posts from one of their forums

Masterclass in what way?

Jose got it wrong on many levels today - but he was nearly bailed out.

Don’t be daft. Look who they had at centre half.

Fabinio was taken from his defensive midfield role and put in defence which greatly weakened their centre midfield. So that’s a big hole at centre half and also in front of them

No Jota who was literally scoring every game before injury.

Mate we did not go today to toe with them, they loaded football and we just got behind ghe ball and didn’t even try to take them on

There has been zero mentality change in this team. Because we’re 13 games in and already:

  • Dropped points in nearly half the games we’ve played
  • Dropped points in half of our home games
  • Thrown away a 3 goal lead
  • Once again lost late to a rival
  • Look ropey from set pieces

In terms of the game, it was quite clear one team wanted to win through playing football, the other by any means must, almost bandit style. However, it works for them, so i respect that through gritted teeth.
In my opinion this was a big win, Spurs had found away of grinding out results without playing well, a sign of successful teams. So, to humble them hopefully knocks them off their stride.
In the build up-to the game, Mourinho was trying to play the media to his advantage, how ironic that in defeat he shows his true character. Whether to deflect criticism from his players or being so deluded in himself it was funny to see how he tried to pass the buck,
In terms of the game, players like Gini, Fabinho and Mane stood out but special mention should go out the CJ and RW who performed at a level above their ages.

I was thinking after 75 minutes, we should bring Ox he has a great shot from distance but then I though for whom would I bring him… So I shut up. :grinning:

I’m actually starting to wonder if this is @SBYM

Sort of makes sense if you have my level of clarity

After 2 lacklustre away matches, we are back at home. I was quite apprehensive yesterday about this fixture, with our bench slightly lack of depth. That was on top of lack of sleep last night, and instead I decided to stay up and started “Believe Us: How Jürgen Klopp transformed Liverpool into title winners” by Melissa Reddy. After almost finishing the book, I managed to get so shut eyes, ready for today’s work, as well as ready for this match against Spur, without the nervousness anymore.

It turned out to be quite an enjoyable match. But before that, the small crowd from Anfield, together with the staff and players, gave Ger the final sent off. RIP Ger.

The team was focused, passes were spot on (except Mo’s crosses into the box). Our boys were full on ready to give Spurs a proper smashing. The only issue was that final kick towards the net. It seemed that we were scuffing most of the hit at Lloris, making his save pretty routine. It was nice that he had absolutely no chance for the 2 goals that we scored.

VAR: Was Son really onside? Did they even properly look at the lines? Unlike when our boys scored, then VAR drew and redrew the offside line, it appeared that VAR did 1 line and called it a day. Saying that, if all the VAR offside decisions in the future are going to be like that (15-20 seconds review) without agonizing over the millimetres, I can live with that.

My 3 picks for this match:

  1. Bobby: What a thumping header to the top corner. I could not celebrate until the restart from the centre. I was concerned about the Spur’s player down at the 12 yard spot. I think I only noticed one glaring mistake that gave the ball away. In general, he was almost back to his confident self.
  2. Curtis Jones: He is growing into the team nicely. Very composed, held onto the ball well. Gave the opposition defenders proper scares with him running at them with the ball.
  3. Hendo: Dictated the middle of the park with Gini and Curtis Jones. Intercepted a few dangerous balls. His long forward balls were so much better that the last match.

Massive shout out to Gini and Robbo. These two were absolute beasts today.

Now, I will go and read the pre- and post-match comments, then get some much needed shut eyes.

Quite possibly my favorite post on the fighting cock forum:

And what really fucking fucks me off is we can never seem to skank a fucking win against these cunts at their place, we can’t even thieve a fucking skanking bus park win. Even when we were better than them we couldn’t beat the cunts up there. I’m so fucking fucked off with it.

Just shows that their fans even admit we are better than them

Is it me or did they check that Son offside call in like 5 seconds?

If that was us, they woulda been drawing about 4 different lines and making sure it looked offside. Ridiculous.

Had to record it, just finished. Get in.

Maureen spouts so much crap he is football’s Trump.

Jones… what a player he is becoming.
Williams did ever so well too.
So much to say about so many of them, but I’m tired and want to read what others said.

Just made up. That’s all!

I love the idea of a long drive back home, Mourinho going over the whole thing on a loop, knowing he and his team lost and were knocked off top spot. The M1 is a long road.

Harry Kane for that matter too, the mouth breathing, window licking jamook. Loved how 19 year old Curtis Jones wasn’t fazed at all, and Harry was like a Labrador chasing a stick.

I was thinking that as well. Son was more offside than many of our lads have been this season in calls that didn’t go our way.

Even when Coady went to the floor from clearly no contact they checked 500 times to make sure Mané didnt use the Force on him.

We’re still top. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Tim Howard said the best team lost because if Son had the chances Bergwijn did then they would have won.

In other words, if something had happened that didn’t happen then Spurs were the better side.

At least Jose has an ally in his knowingly facetious argument!

Almost as if the defence was more focused on stopping Son than Bergwijn.

In fairness to Howard he is a former Man Utd and Everton player, I’d almost be disappointed if he gave us any credit.
