As ridiculous as the panic about Arse breathing down our neck was a few days ago, talking with certainty that we have won it after last night are as equally so. We are in a much stronger position than 48hrs ago, but still a large number of tricky fixtures left that we must navigate
I’m hoping this result is what will break us out of the recent performance + result trough we’ve been in. I was actually starting to panic about taking poor form into the CL which is still IMO a competition we have a huge opportunity in.
I think the fact that this game showed how tactically flexible we are is certainly grounds for optimism. We may find ourselves having to use similar tactics in the CL, especially in away matches.
I can’t remember seeing us play like that since Rafa’s days. It’s a tribute to Slot that he can get this group of players to play in such a different way to their usual style.
No one can say for sure but if Klopp is as jaded as he had stated, then chances are he might not be as successful as the position LFC is now in.
Having said that, I’m confident prime Klopp would be having even better results.
*Edit to say Slot has exceeded all expectations so far and if he continues on that trajectory after having gained more experience, he could in a few years rise to be as good as Klopp. Maybe, just maybe, even surpass him. Whichever way it might turn out, Klopp will always remain our legend.
Yeah, nah. The simplest explanation is often the best; Trent is equally as shit defending as Doku is at doing something other than running around a cone.
If anyone thinks the master plan was for Trent to get skinned all game in order to hold Doku up then I despair (just a little, mind you). That’s literally a game plan of just plain hope and I don’t think Slot is basing a game plan on hope alone.
It’ll certainly give Ancelotti more food for thought this time (if we do meet them) than him knowing beforehand exactly how we’re going to set up and play.
At a point a season or two ago I used to rail at the commentary for the then just perceived notion that Trent couldn’t defend. Over time I came to the ultimate realization that he couldn’t, or just wasn’t really arsed enough to do it consistently well. Whatever the reason the defensive end product on the field is still the same and his bad games far outnumber his good, let’s be brutally honest about that and not faff around.
I was watching sky sports news a couple of weeks ago and I think they were interviewing Chris Boyd about Liverpool‘s match away at Aston Villa. Boyd was at pains to explain that even if Liverpool drew away to Villa, it would be a good point. But the Sky Sports presenter kept pressing him about any “dropped points” would still cause pressure right? Boyd said not really. But the presenter basically said that no no that would still cause pressure.
They just keep spinning these doomsday narratives any time that Liverpool don’t get every three points. It’s just ridiculous.
