A bit disappointed we didn’t score more and see Trent’s effort hit the net, but they know we deliberately let them off lightly, and that’s really cool. Besides, if Trent had scored, the Bitters would have overtaken them. Win, win, really.
Be honest Klopp’s comments about getting through it made a lot of sense.
Think a yellow was fair for Fred. Ronaldo lost his head as it dawned on him how shit his teammates are. Could have been red but didn’t do Curtis any harm. Pogba on the other hand intentionally injured a fellow pro. I’m still fuming. Was so obvious immediately it was a red card. Mind blowing that red tried to get away with a yellow
Yes. Man U’s midfield. And their defence. And their forwards. And their manager.
It’s actually quite funny that De Gea was their best player… and he conceded 5
Shaw kind of has to.
He’s not strong enough or in the right position to shield access to the ball. And he can’t foul him as it’s the penalty area plus he’s on a yellow.
The challenge was on Jones on 46 minutes. Was debated on sky this morning on ref watch whether it was a red card. Couple of them thought it could have been and lucky that Curtis’s leg wasn’t planted.
I see that Nabys leg definitely wasn’t planted for Pogbas horror challenge so hopefully that has saved Naby from long term injury
The Konate images remind me of Shanks when he introduced Ron Yeats. “Take a walk around my center half. He’s a colossus.”
I guess I’m the only person who thought the ref had a good game?
Ronaldo very lucky to not see red. He has been right up there as one of the best in the world for about a decade, but not for Juventus, and definitely not for Man Utd. His career is on the downswing, and Man Utd are paying a fortune for the memory of what has been, not what is.
If he plays enough minutes his goal return will be healthy, as he knows how to score. But… he does not lift the others, he only self promotes. As such he is not a leader. And he is not a worker either, as the low amounts of sprints and presses demonstrate.
Against Liverpool it was crystal clear that they were second best, all over the pitch and also on the sidelines when you look over at manager and coaches. Ronaldo saw the red mist and kicked out in frustration at Jones because he knew they were second best and he couldn’t stand it. He is used to playing for teams who challenge for the biggest prizes, and he knows that isn’t going to happen in his sunset years at Man Utd.
I saw another details I haven’t seen mentioned too. When the ball broke it looked like a 50-50 foot race between Jones and Ronaldo. Peak Ronaldo wins that race, as he was very rapid. Jones isn’t a slouch though, and the younger man also showed more desire, and he easily beat Ronaldo to the ball.
Ronaldo had a glimpse of his own decline in that moment, and the kick at Jones, followed by two more kicks when he was down - albeit kicking on the ball as it was against Jones, we’re out of frustration not just with all things Man Utd, but also himself.
Part of sport is that you have to know when to bow out. The last memories Ronaldo will give us as a player will be well short of what he was.
Love it!
I thought he did too. I think Ronaldo should have seen red, big big decision swerved, but apart from that, I thought the ref was fine. He reviewed the Pogba challenge and got it right in the end, which I don’t mind, as usually bad refs will double down on a bad decision to save face.
The game should have been reffed by Oliver as he is the best, but Taylor was fine.
I have started a post several times since the match’s end, but impossible to properly describe how I feel. And still feel today. Just as Mo said, it’s still only 3 points, but it was a day we will not soon forget.
I rewatched the match back last night and I want to say this, Naby Keita was sensational. He was directly involved in the first 3 goals. Just absolutely everywhere, United had no answer for him in midfield. Pogba’s tackle on Naby was completely unnecessary and it was distressing for me to see him stretchered off. Naby is one of the most benign players on the pitch, He did not deserve that. Hoping for the best news.
I agree but he only comes part of the way, neither here nor there.
One other observation on this is how far Lindelof and Maguire have been pulled over. No cover anywhere.
Shaw got a red for England and Griezman also saw red for a similar high foot which is dangerous play regardless of the intent
It is not fair is it haha
Greizmann didn’t even look at pulling out Fred at least bends his leg.
I didn’t see Shaw’s so I can’t comment but I think it depends at the pace and whether the player attempts to change direction.
Not red for me sorry and I wouldn’t give it on a Saturday if I was ref.
It was a blatant red from the second it happened. VAR prob told him to ‘look at screen and change to red you fucking idiot’
