I agree with you, I thought it was pretty clear too. Still, after review he upgraded from yellow to red and got it right in the end.
I agree, not sure it’s a critique when he asks VAR should he take a look to check if he got it right.
I think a lot of people confuse the level of refereeing in the UK as a Liverpool specific thing, they are generally all poor.
Oddly, when I watched the match last night, I wasn’t that impressed. If you drop the last 30 minutes, when we were clearly on cruise control to get to the end, it was a 60 minute match. Of that 60 minutes, we had a period of about 20 minutes (15’-35’) where I thought we were letting them into the game rather easily, and with a lot of poor passing when we did get possession. There are some real defensive problems going on, despite a surprise command performance from Konate. It is just really strange that ManU did not get more shots than they did.
Sound bizarre to say after handing an epic beating to the Mancs, but about all we really did well was score goals.
Thing with VAR it is there to correct obvious errors and the fact we are discussing some suggests they were not, I think Ronaldo’s kick was nasty and I probably would send him off (mind you I’d sin bin him as we can do at amateur football).
At a higher level you get the opportunity to do stuff you wouldn’t down there. As I said with Ronaldo you’d probably understand but also you would feel it deserves some punishment.
End of the day you have to control it better because one rash challenge could end in loss of income for some lads.
Anyhow I’ve gone off tangent, I think VAR got it right yesterday however I think Taylor lost the game a little. He however was right to flash cards and didn’t blow his whistle for any minor touch which was mostly them falling over and rolling around.
Look guys, I have nothing against any kind of Love, but I think Freddy should keep it behind doors!!!
Very early on I thought our midfield was bypassed quite easily with Bruno getting a bit of it. Yes our match was absolutely riddled with unforced errors particularly in midfield that a Man City for instance would completely exploit, but that United were too timid to do anything about.
I thought it was a brilliant result, and a good/great performance that could do with some improvement. But in saying that, I think the performance we saw yesterday is good enough for 90% of the opposition we will face this year. We will just probably need to do better away at City and Chelsea.
I am about to open BBC football page with great anxiety.
Phew, Ole is fine.
The problem with Taylor was that from about 30mins it should have been obvious that a degree of petulant frustration was creeping into Utd game and he needed to get a grip on it, either with cards or a word with Maguire. By the time Ronaldo kicks at Jones three times, it should be a red. That’s after Maguire lunge at Jota, and a few other frustrated hacks. The result of his failure to get a grip on it is that Pogba thinks it’s OK to slide in the way he does. He correctly sends Hashtag, but by that time Naby is being carried off on a stretcher.
Agree 100%. Some folk on here don’t like it when constructive criticism is given but take it as an attack on a particular player.
We were very sloppy at times and lost possession in dangerous areas a lot but we got away with that. Was delighted to hear Klopp reference that in his post match interview.
You’ll never get perfection, never ever. But you should strive for it to keep performances high and attitudes right.
My favourite part of the match yesterday (apart from goals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) was when Ronaldo lashed out at Jones and the utd lads thought about getting into it only for VVD and Konate to stroll over and frightened the shit out of the scum. They are a magnificent sight. Was brilliant.
I thought at one stage utd were trying to get the match abandoned by not having enough players on the pitch. Ronaldo and Fernandes should have seen red. Maguire was borderline.
Where does Phil McNulty see the collection of talented players at United???
There’s one called Sancho but never seems to play.
Probably the only one I have much sympathy for.
Could he not put in a transfer request…already having sourced 'his new team…and make a quick exit…his 'new team might be/could be us…but do we need him…that is the question!!!
The explanation given by Drury was Ronaldo kicked the ball so it was okay. Is it something open to interpretation? There was clear frustration from his end. Would he have kicked the ball in a similar way if they were winning?
I don’t really have an issue with his 2nd and 3rd kicks, which were at the ball with Jones on the ground, so somewhat frustrated that every comment appears to be about them. My issue was with his first, which was just a petulant swipe right through Jones, no attempt to play the ball, nowhere near the ball, high follow through into Jones and was what put him on the floor in the first place. That was the kick that merited a red, for me.
