But you got to give a bit to be more forceful.
That or you just knock in corners like Arsenal. It was entertaining and we pressed.
Sorry for the negativity but just saw gaps and it worried me against better opposition.
For me I thought our 1st half was better against Burnley, but we didn’t win, just my opinion and that means eff all ![]()
nice to win, score 3 goals, and move up the CL table with all the lads performing well. Hope they can continue in this vein in the PL.
Their unbeaten run of 13 matches (W7 D6) in all competitions may have been uninspiring for the large part but it is the longest ongoing streak of any team from Europe’s big five leagues. In itself, credit must be due for that. Liverpool last lost a game in November.
Things are rarely as bad as they seem…
Maybe we’ve been here before but the shape and plan for the team is starting to form.
The FBs played much more in balance with the flow of the game.
There are issues to iron out and for me (from the starters yesterday) Dom and Ekitike are the two players who’s roles are still under development/work in progress. With Dom, though it is clear he is instructed to set the tempo, he still seems to be finding his feet. The slowing down unnecessarily (to allow a setup) for the next attack phase, getting dragged out of position and not releasing the ball quickly enough were apparent yesterday - but balance should come as we play for longer in the shape and ethos that is being formed. Ekitike has a lot of room to improve - his link-up play and holding play are two areas that need work on.
Couple of other notes, Mac had a solid game and this bodes well for the run in. Gakpo is still frustrating and though he scored, his role is another that needs to be better defined.
It was a solid though unspectacular performance. Much better at all the facets of the game, although there are still areas that require improvement.
Szoboszlai was phenomenal, he is playing at an unreal level this season. The two full backs were excellent and they are showing why we bought them. In fact, the whole backline was excellent for perhaps the first time this season. Mac Allister finally had a good game as well.
I thought that Ekitike and Wirtz were frustrating; The former missed a couple of chances that you’d expect him to bury. The latter looked low on energy and uncharacteristically loose with the ball. He also allowed that prick Greenwood to pass him by without as much as putting a challenge for what was Marseille’s best chance.
All in all, a positive performance. The challenge is to built on it in the PL matches.
I did think Macca looked tired around 70 mins and made a couple of mistakes and thought he should have been subbed, but seemed to get his 2nd wind and stepped up again.
Yeah 2nd game I that Wirtz has looked tired and off it, the other was against Leeds
Marseille are alright, they are the second or third best side in France, but they are not getting in the top 15 in the Premier League.
This is the thing that everyone is getting wrong this season. We assuming we’re dropping points to shit teams, and the fact is there are very few, if any, shit teams in the Premier League. There is so much money, everyone can build a team that is, at the very least, competitive. Our competitors in the top six are dropping points all over the place. Amazingly, despite struggling to buy a win, we’re still fourth, and that’s because everyone around us are as inconsistent as we are.
For me it was a classic LFC CL away performance from yesteryear and for once I wasnt worried at all. BT said LFC had weathered the storm but it was more a light shower.
I thought Wirtz was OK. Couple of times in 1st half his 1st touch for once let him down and he wouldve been through. He seemed to have a really good 2nd half. Glad he was subbed so he can rest for Sat.
Also thought Mo put in a shift as well. Didnt hear his name for first 10 minutes so was a bit worried but after that he worked hard and was unlucky not to score. Keep it up Mo
Yes, let’s only get carried away with negativity when we draw
Much better, albeit against opposition that allowed us to play football. In individual moments we were millimeters away from perfection. One or two misplaced final passes just letting us down. I thought Wirtz was just slightly off form, or we would have been way further ahead.
Kerkez was great, Frimpong equally so. Gomez was tidy and didn’t allow anything by him. Macca looked like himself again.
Just couldn’t sort his feet out on a few occasions, but no worries as he is quality and my fave to watch, although I love Kerkez’s tigerish commitment, definitely in the Robbo mould and seems to love defending
There was one in particular where he scuffed it with his left rather than right foot. I can’t remember who put the pass in for that, but I can see him getting quite a bit of service from Frimpong. It shows be fruitful once they gel.
Probably should have won 5-0 but 3-0 will do! We look much better with Gapko not in the lineup.
Though when Gakpo came on he played a beautiful ball which Mo should have scored from, then scored a lovely goal
Very good away win.
Now let’s build on that for the next match!
Our draws have been very impressive, hard fought draws against top quality teams.
I’m just pleased for Joe Gomez.
He hasn’t always had the best luck or treatment but it’s good to see him get some recognition.
