Post match: Napoli v Liverpool (UCL 7/9/22 8pm)

Just FYI, don’t recommend sharing Anfield Watch stuff. Same parent company as The S*n. It’s owned by Oliver Bond who used to work for them as well I understand.

They also played one pre-season friendly.

4231 is the way forward

The form is mostly down to injuries and a couple of players being far too casual.
Once Joel gets settled back in with Virgil, a midfield of Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho and Mo, Darwin and Diaz up top we will be much better, at the moment Fabinho and Milner not able to cover the ground, Elliott is a bit powder puff, he has skill and tries his best but needs more guidance in there, Mo completely out of form and Nunez still to settle.

I’m glad Jurgen has been honest and accepted how bad we are, respect for that and it’s the only way to rebuild from here. Excuses in the last five games led us here, honesty will bring the change we need.

He already did that after the Man Utd game. Something is up with the players. Klopp having to apologise to the fans is also super sad.

Anyone that thinks whatever the hell is wrong is a quick fix, is deluded. I got no idea what in the hell has happened (especially to VVD), but something ain’t right somewhere.

No, you’re not seeing last season, and that’s the problem.

That may be the problem - this team may not be physically tired this early in the season, but they look very mentally tired. The two can be significantly out of synch, especially after a season like the one we just had that looked so promising but in the end finished fairly disappointing. A grueling pre-season would not have helped rebuild mental drive a great deal. I don’t think we had a truly grueling pre-season, but this team needed to be refreshed. Sometimes the easiest way to do that is with new blood.

This may have been a season to forego the commercial tour portion of the pre-season, regardless of the finances. On current form, we are going to struggle to get out of the groups, and struggle to get back into the CL. September is far too early to panic, but there is a malaise in this team.

The absurd World Cup may well be a real blessing for LFC.

The change that was needed has passed, you have a world class manager in every aspect and you don’t back him…why are we 1 of 2/3 clubs in the league that don’t want to back their manager?

Once he’s gone he’s gone, don’t have the feeling of regret after.

The amount of time?

It’s no coincidence that the last time we were this bad for an extended amount of time, it was at the end of yet another compressed pre-season. That injuries have piled up so early without us even getting through a couple of games hasn’t helped either.

We needed more of a break, but those clamouring for us to change tactically to compensate for how knackered everyone is were also complaining that we were trying to change tactically in the first place.

Lots of you are just spoilt children throwing the toys out of the pram. Calling the players lazy and disinterested is lazier “analysis” than their play.

It is a season with unique structure and demands and coming off the back of a season with a compressed summer break, through which most of our players actually continued playing, after a marathon season. Every team is stepping into the unknown to try to navigate this. Many others will get it wrong in some way (although those mistakes in those teams may not be evident yet), but few if no other teams had the added complexity of our season last year.

I dont know if we under did it during pre season out of concern for how much fatigue was still in our legs after last year and are now undercooked, or if we went too hard, either in general or we didnt pull back enough after seeing how fatigued the players still were after their “break”.

Also remember when we played Crystal Palace they left their main players in England, not saying we should compare ourselves to them, but interesting all the same.

In the end we had a gruelling season that ultimately ended negatively and maybe the lads needed a longer break, football is intense both physically and mentally

I’d say they’re also the freshest players, so they “looked like they cared”. The rest of them looked more like they were swimming through mud to me, constantly too slow to react or think or come up with the right passes/moves.

You’re probably right, but I don’t think there is anyway, after Covid and two years without a tour, the playing side were going to get away with sacking off a commercial tour.

We could have just sent the player out and treated it like a holiday.

Well not now I’m not no because we’re a month into the new season which is where my attention is on and right now I cant take my mind off over what I’ve just witnessed…95 minutes of humiliation.

this looks really bad tbf

better turn off the sound

Jude Bellingham better be worth the wait because the problems with midfield that should have been addressed last summer, even if it meant some tough conversations with Milner, Ox and Naby, are killing is right now.

It’s less an engine room and more like a bloke sat on a skateboard with a carrier bag for a sail hoping the wind blows him down the road.

The imbalance and lack of energy or control is killing us and is then exacerbated by sloppy individual mistakes at the back.

We need to get back to being compact and pressing teams when we don’t have the ball but we can’t do that with a ponderous midfield unit that the defense and attack don’t seem to trust and who create very little going forward either.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a matter of us being so knackered because of the lack of rotation due to injuries and the immense number of games we played last year. When your mind/body are tired you simply react slower, your body doesn’t move as fast and you try to compensate.

It’s no surprise that the only time we’ve had a win was also the one time we struck first, giving us a mental boost. The rest of the time we’ve had to come from behind, which can’t be easy, particularly if you’ve already started the game more tired.

Feel sorry for Diaz, he now has his motm linked to this shitshow of a game.
