Post match: Napoli v Liverpool (UCL 7/9/22 8pm)

Yet again, take this up with Jurgen Klopp.

He spent the summer getting very pissed off with anyone who suggested we might need a midfielder. He has always been a manager that wants to back his players and treats the market as a last resort.

It’s fairly obvious, from his statements early on, and then his mea culpa as the window closed, that Klopp has rejected the idea of new players until it became obvious we had to do something.

To be frank, I find it fucking cowardly to blame the owners for the small turnover of players, when we have a manager who’s backing of his players and staunch loyalty to the group we have is so upfront and public.

I’d let you get away with that as an excuse if it wasn’t for the fact we looked incredible against City in the Community Shield and then show for the season days later and it’s a completely different team with a completely different mentality.

The community shield is a glorified friendly and City were a week behind us. It was nice to beat them, but it meant as little as it did when Arsenal beat us the other season.

A.k.a running the club like an amateur family business. If then it is the owners’ responsibility to step up.

Poor you. Did your your chosen football team fail to allow you a short period of wallowing in the reflected glory of a sporting achievement to which you played absolutely no part?

Personally, I prefer to support my team rather than throw them all under the bus. Especially as only a few months ago they came so tantalisingly close to giving us the greatest season in football history.

If you think we can go from that, to the team being finished in such a short period of time, football might not be for you?

****klopp asked if he’s worried about getting the sack like Tuchel: “Not really, our owners are rather calm and expect me to sort the situation and not think someone else will.”**James pearce.

hahah. who would replace him…dumbass media…fsg not that stupid

Remember this the next time people mock the Utd defenders celebrating winning a goal kick. There were at least two occasions when we played them where we were close to scoring only to be denied by a collection of bodies being flung in front of hte ball. It wont get you all of the way there, and such hubris at over celebrating this stuff can come back to bite you, but that sort of commitment is where you have to start.

I dont think our lads are lazy or have bad attitudes, but we’re certainly not able right now, for whatever reason, to match that level of intensity.

FSG wouldn’t have the balls to sack Klopp, they knew if they did they’d be no way back for them here.

& before this summer I never had a problem with FSG despite the decisions they’ve made over the years & the bollocking they took from everyone.

No.

Jurgen’s biggest strength is his loyalty to his players. It’s the basis on which he builds the culture and the team spirit which is so important to his management.

It might also be his biggest weakness.

I don’t know what you think FSG should be doing here? Interfering in the squad building? Buying players he doesn’t want? Telling him how to do this football management lark?

exactly this… they need him badly. working on such a small budget, no one better than klopp. a new manager will demand so much money and FSG wont do it

I’m wondering if a huge part of these gaps is basically us not being able to execute the tactical instructions properly, i.e. there is a plan, and a good one, but we just can’t physically do it.

Klopp: “We have to kind of reinvent ourselves. That was the least compact performance I’ve seen from us for a long time. Napoli were really good but we made it easy for them.”

For the first time this season, I am truly worried for us.
I think we are in deep trouble…

Covering for those two was much easier when we had a midfield that had legs for it (Hendo and Gini) and now we don’t. Fab with his slow pace is trying to do two jobs (shield defence as well as cover for TAA). He jus doesn’t have the stamina for that. Fab plays best when he has fellow midfield players doing exactly what you just said (covering for TAA and robbo). If Fab is the player having to cover a runner for TAA, then u are in big trouble as he doesn’t have the pace for it. yes the players look fatigued.

Yes agree on mental tiredness. I’m sure some of the players are physically tired too. Fabinho looks like he’s played 90 games already this season but he’ll be expected to start again on Saturday because who else is going to play the 6? But Diaz isn’t tired. The guy’s a fucking live wire, fights and scraps for everything. He’s putting the rest to shame so it’s too simplistic for people to keep saying we’re tired as if that’s the only thing that can possibly be wrong.

The body language from a few is terrible and some look like that maybe they don’t believe in what they’re being asked to do. Like it’s all a bit too difficult. I hope I’m wrong here but that’s the vibe I’m getting. The evidence that we required a more radical overhaul this summer is mounting.

Let’s not forget we played a friendly after CS (was meant to be full team but the injuries had started) and wanted another one after a Fulham that was called off due to more injuries.

City had a long break, played 3 friendlies (inc CS) and then got further time off.

Somewhere we’ve royally fucked up our preseason and look knackered. If it were 1 or 2 off form then maybe not but the whole squad looks knackered.

We’ve got clubs like West Ham Newcastle Arsenal and Spurs constantly outspending us every summer now…that’s before we even get to the big 3, we know where the issues lie.

Are people really that surprised to see us dropping off? Look at the squad.

The one that came agonising close to a quadruple three months ago? That one?
