Post match: Nottingham Forest v Liverpool (EPL 22/10/22 12.30pm)

What vitriol?

“No, there is no excuses for that performance, man for man we are the better side. We simply did not show up, we didn’t show desire, we didn’t fight for the ball, we played without intensity, we were sloppy and complacent. This is a stale arrogant team who thinks turning up is enough to win, it started v’s Fulham and City aside it’s the horrific standard of this season.”

I stand by those words that is how I viewed the match (and many this season), Forrest also played 3 games in a similar timeframe, they had 1 extra days rest compared to us. So whilst I accept there is fatigue in the squad, I also think it’s an easy excuse and only partly to blame. I do believe there are members of the squad not pulling their weight and players turning up and expecting to win, leading to complacency.

And my original point was other posters were calling fellow fans tosspots and other such insults. Can’t see any insults to the players in my posts?

World cup can’t come soon enough, at least it will be 3/4 week break for us to maybe get someone fit.

Who out the squad is a definite for the world cup?

Virgil
Ali
Fabinho
Henderson
Nunez

I guess Trent is a maybe?

I think you forgot Firmino.

However, among that list. I can only think Ali, Virgil being definite starters. Nunez will depend on the situation. Trent might be in the squad but he may not be starting most games. Fabinho and Hendo will largely be squad depth.

I guess the world cup will be a huge reset, physically and mentally for most of our squad.

Ali is the only exception today, let’s make that abundantly clear.

As far as the season goes there are only a handful of players that have been an exception.

Last season and this season.

We talk a lot about midfield but we lost three strikers in the off season and brought in one. And replaced a nailed on starter with a very talented young striker…but the other two were not replaced. We need at least one more decent wide attacker. Carvalho is not nearly ready and I’m not convinced that’s where he will end up anyway

Assuming the second forward you’re referring to is Taki then two of he three we lost were routinely not even on the bench last season even when fit. Since we won the league we have retooled our famous front 3 with 3 new players all of whom would expect to be starters, and we still have 2 of that original 3. Basically a lot of the retooling for that front line was already done while the main guys were already here.

Fair point. Injuries to Jota and the assault on Diaz have not helped.

Playing boys against man together with a Manchester cunt

Not enough spending is biting you in the ass mr FSN

The only 2 players looking to create anything were Harvey and Bobby (to a lesser extent), I thought Jones started ok then disappeared. I’m at a loss why we are still playing Fab he has been woeful, takes too long and rarely plays a progressive pass, Mo was non-existent and Fabio is off the pace atm.

Gotta say our mounting injuries are killing us we had very little on the bench to change to.

Going to be a long season but I will be there every week supporting them.

It’s only reasonable if there’s evidence to support the claim of lost desire and self motivation.

A poor performance, even work rate can not automatically be associated with a lack of desire. And worse, be justified by citing journalists as proof, when in reality they lack the training or background to make such judgments.

Can’t be true but I’m seeing on Twitter Mo completed 4 passes today. Has to be a wind up surely??

Sometimes I feel…post match threads should be refrained from posting on match day. It reminds of my teenage when I was:

  • implusive
  • felt everybody else is wrong
  • and no one understands my opinion

Massive rebuilding job at Jurgen’s hand in the next one year or so. Our midfield is old and so is 50% of our defense. God knows what will happen if Mo is injured. There’s no cover for right side attacker. I hope the owners put some money on the table to refresh this team, at least for the sake of this wonderful man Jurgen.

Watching Jurgen’s press conference today, he looked a bit baffled and seemed completely unable to gage why these performances are happening. Unfortunately, our midfielders are never a threat to the opposition. All the opposing team has to do. …is block our attackers…you can play for 24 hours or 7 days or a year and you will know we don’t have a goal scoring midfielder in the park.

The wolves(media) seemed all ready to pounce today. It’s sometimes so evident that almost the whole country wants us to fail … including the pundits, refs and VAR. Afterall everybody’s beloved old toilet team is on the rise again.

I still have faith in Jurgen…to turn this around. Too many injuries, too many changes in lineups, tactics …and it’s just not happening for us at the moment. We need to turn around things and turn then fast. It’s very difficult to see right now that we can ever put a 10-12 games winning run.

We are a cup team for now…and I am not looking anything beyond that.
Shame that those Arsenal and Toilet teams will finish above us. We have lost our mojo… hopefully 2023 will get us back.
We need to instill fear in those opposing teams again…at times we are the victim of our own approach of bigging up every opposition we play.

Come on Redmen.

We have only on CF and we replace hem him with Ox :scream:

What’s the fuck Klop …

I dont agree with it, but I understand why that would be the favoured theory for what has gone wrong for some people. Every manager who has ever overseen sustained success has commented on the need for personnel turnover to ward off creeping complacency. What we are seeing is no different than we’d expect to see of a side that had become complacent. If someone was of the opinion we hadnt done enough in the market then this becomes a very reasonable explanation for what we’re seeing this season.

As I said, I don’t agree with it. I think the amount of personnel turnover we’ve actually done is under appreciated. Secondly Klopp would not be blind to it if it was happening and I think he’d respond very differently to it if he saw it than the sense of confused exasperation we’ve seen him respond with this season. But I think it’s reasonable hypothesis. What I’m not going to accept is accusations of players just phoning it in or thinking trying is beneath them.

I think Jürgen has already expressed before how he thinks that Oxlade-Chamberlain can play the Firmino role, so that shouldn’t have been too surprising.

The surprising part is that he was fit, and seem to have made it through unscathed. I would have thought it would have been a lot harder a recovery.
