Post Match: Toulouse v Liverpool (EL 9/11/23 5.45pm)

I am a bit bothered by it, mainly because it fits into a pattern. If we are second in the group the point denied by an inexplicable decision costs us.

I dont thnk the ref/VAR were at cheating level, but their incompetence has the same outcome.

Would be nice to get onne of those decisions that allegedly even out over the season.

I get the concern, but so far Toulouse have mainly picked up their points at home. Away they’ve only picked up 1 point, and it’s one apiece left. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s not likely.

We will not become second in the group we are 2 points adrift and with a home match to come against the nr last. If needed Klopp will play our A team in the last match against Union

Ain’t gonna happen

am watching the match now. 11th Minute, Daiz turns a defender twice. first time by him, takes a swipe at his face. second time by, guy takes his legs out. zero card from ref. if you don’t have a destroyer on your squad who can sort guys out (Desler), that’s a problem.

losing Fab, Hendo and Milner was a lot of steel in the middle which has made way for more technical but diminutive players. sometimes you have to do a little trench work to sort that stuff out early. Dark arts, I think?

I used it as an example to be honest.

If we missed top spot by a point, then the significance of the decision to disallow the goal would huge.

Its an unlikely scenario, as others have also pointed out.

I think the issue of the disallowed goal is overshadowed by how poor we played. The crux is that yet another inexplicable decision costs us.

It was a bizarre decision but I am inclined to believe that it was a genuine mistake. We certainly don’t suffer abject arbitration in Europe with anything like the same monotonous regularity as in domestic games.

We haven’t had that sort of player for years, and certainly not under Klopp. Milner would put himself about a bit but it’s not the same thing.
The fact Ramos finished the 2018 CL final with all his teeth is testament to this, and I don’t recall Fab evening too many scores either.

Fab got stuck in quite often and was good at leaving a leg in. took quite a few yellows, some more clumsily than others but both Jordan and Gerrard especially were excellent at that.

We’ve lost some steel over the years, could use someone in the #6 who is able to take and give a knock. MacAllister isn’t the guy, IMO. Endo is able to get stuck in but he’s not the guy either, for me…

am watching this series of events 60-70min and I notice MacAllister doing a lot of trotting around the middle of the pitch but he really doesn’t attempt to relieve pressure off other players by getting into positions to receive the ball on the turn. Very disappointing play from him here, being down 2-0 he should be doing more to turn the tide of the game here.

Gakpo has been anonymous. just got subbed off at 72min and that’s the first I remember hearing his name.

Christ, what a fucking shambles our defense is for their third goal. Trent’s fucking sleeping at RB, loses his man by 10y. I believe the term is ā€œall sixes and sevensā€.

I know that the game has evolved, but the idea of an enforcer is a huge loss to the game. Souness or Case would be red carded in every game nowadays. I think the last nasty fucker we had was Bellamy, he got in players faces and you knew he would be in the trenches if required.

Robbo’s the closest we have these days.

Absolutely. It’s a big failing of Klopp’s reign and his refusal to engage in the dark arts has contributed to us not winning more silverware - certainly one of the reasons we have been done over by Madrid twice.

I disagree completely: Klopp’s refusal to abandon his principles should be admired.

Just because everyone else is a cunt, doesn’t mean you should be one too.

Yeah I think it’s just a part of Klopp’s makeup and you have to take the rough with the smooth. If he was a bit more flexible here he’d be a different manager and perhaps not as effective. Still think we miss real steel on the pitch and we let far too many teams take the piss.

It’s the referees who allow our opponents to ā€œtake the pissā€. Look at the double standards at play in how fouls on Manchester City and Liverpool players are handled, for example.
