Post Match: Villa v Liverpool (EPL 19/2/25 7.30pm)

Well,I like your optimism! However, it seems we are fucking it up ourselves as well!

Disappointed but not terribly surprised at this result.
Way to go yet!
What I am disappointed in is Darwin, early doors I felt there was something there champing to be let out.Now I am not convinced!
And just what does Endo have to do to get used more?As has been pointed out the midfield must be getting a bit weary, and looking it at times, yet Endo warms the bench.Dunno, did he run over Slots cat?

Was it more of a point won, or two points lost? Hard to say. The lead at the top is extended, and while Arsenal have a likely easy one this weekend, tougher fixtures are coming for them, too.

It feels like the main thing for us is to stay calm. We are in control of this and we don’t need to let a draw knock us out of our stride.

Not a bad result, not a great one either but not a bad one.

Need to be more clinical, stats are showing it every game.

We are creating chances but conceding poor goals

Was there any angle he could have hit it on target without it getting blocked by the defender sliding in? From the replay I saw the ball barely cleared the defender.

Player fatigue will play some roll, but other teams will have spotted some chinks in the armour and are exploiting them.

I’m sure the coaching staff will be looked at that. I’d rather thst the solution wasn’t parking the bus.

All the calls for Endo to have more minutes is futile. Clearly Arne sees a drop off from the other four to him. No disrespect to Endo, but the manager sees things we don’t. And thus far he has been fairly right.

Regarding Darwin. I wouldn’t have him on the pitch again. I was always hopeful that he would come good, but last night all his failings came into a microcosm with that miss. His “pass” to Szoboszlai was awful as well, and his attitude after that in apportioning blame was churlish. I also believe he pulled away from Martinez in the one on one where the keeper put in the tackle. It was half hearted, a more clever step sees Martinez with a decision to make.

Diasi should have got a red card as well. If Ibou and Virgil were "lucky " in recent matches then he was blessed.

I’m not being over confident, but I am still convinced we win the PL this season. Arsenal will need an unblemished finish and that won’t happen. They were flattered by 2-0 last weekend, and I expect WHU to keep them honest this week.

The City game is massive. Keep the heads.

There was a player literally sliding in as he took the shot.

I thought at the time Szoboszlai should have taken the shot himself. He was 1v1 with the goalie but opted to make a pass to Nunez who was under pressure from a defending sliding in beside him. That was the harder option in my opinion.

True. Doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s always right, though.

Everybody makes mistakes.

Yes
But thankfully he makes the decisions. He hasn’t got too much wrong so far.

Its times like this that make me remember Hodgson with Poulsen, Konchesky amd a few more. We are eight points ahead, I am grateful for Slots decisions.

So for me the issue is the same as its been in years - we haven’t invested enough in the squad and yet again it looks like we are heading towards burnout. We signed 1 player in the summer and lets be honest, for whatever reason its been a disaster. Yet again Gomez is injured.

Mac and Grav look goosed.
Forwards - only 1 is in form - OK Gakpo was but is injured so he’s out of form as he cant get on the pitch at the moment. Jota is rusty, Diaz has 1 goal involvement since 2025 that’s 13 games and Nunez has never been in form for us as he is simply not good enough. Last nights cameo is proved that.

Defence - has slipped into its old ways - we leak goals again.

Alisson looks like he has suffered a dip in confidence - great saves v Bournemouth and the 1on1 v Wolves but his overall performance has been poor - what’s with the punching easy catches? That was what made Ali great - he just did the basics and made everything look easy. I have to say the kicking from his hands was great last night.

Is this a blip or is it the usual burn out for us? We are drawing to many and conceding far to many. The midfield is wide open and if Salah don’t score who is on a consistent basis?

I don’t see Arsenal dropping points in their next 4 - west ham, forest, chelsea and United. These teams are all bang out of form. Let hope they drop them somewhere soon.

We have the players. Slot is refusing to use them. Jones, Elliott, Endo should all have played substantially more minutes. Even Morton and McConnell could have contributed more. Not to mention Chiesa.

Still have a hard time understanding how Slot decided that it was better to play Jones and an unfit Diaz on the left rather than trying Chiesa for even half an hour.

Really poor management in my view.

I can only imagine what you would be saying in an Arsenal forum as an Arsenal fan.

Why would you imagine that. Im not an Arsenal fan. Weirdo.
I have no idea why Arsenal didnt buy a forward - bit like us when we needed a CB, didnt buy one then we lost them all.
Arsenal have tightened up that leaky defence from the start of the season so they always have a chance of nicking one.

Slot just doesn’t rate Endo and Elliott and Chiesa for whatever reason isn’t fancied/trusted either.
But we could do with freshening up a bit but that wont happen v City.

Equally, we’re eight points clear at the top and we’re in the box seat for the title.

Title challenges are not meant to be easy. There will be to and fro, and difficult results along the way.

Don’t waste you time prophecising doom - enjoy where we are with a dozen games to go. It’s better than 19 other sides.

Does anyone on here think it is better to clinch the title by 8/9points, or simply by a single point… either way we still win it :0)
The difference being, this home straight roller coaster ride we are entering, just means we do it without being strapped into our seats properly… we are fans of LFC, we have been through the nail-biting minutes before… I have no doubt, we can see this through and come out smiling…!
