Pre- and In-Match - Arsenal v Liverpool - EPL - Sunday Oct 9 @ 16:30 GMT @ Emirates

I’m strangely confident, or at least positive, about this match. It’s almost like the old days (2000s and a chunk of the 2010s) where we were hoping rather than expecting anything. Also there isn’t the pressure of winning to keep up or not fall behind - we’re in full backs to the wall and scramble mode to try and finish in the top 4…

Basically, I will be happy with a good performance (almost more than the result).

Just watching Klopp’s pre-match presser and he’s talking about Jesus:

I know City wouldn’t have sold him to every club, but Arsenal, obviously the distance was big enough…[chuckles]…Geographically

Haha he says what everyone was thinking in that he was sold to them as they weren’t seen as a real threat (which may prove to be a mistake by City) and then Klopp tried to cover his tracks with the ‘geographically’ part so as not to be disrespectful, or even just allowing the media to make a big thing of it. We know what you were saying there though, Jurgen! :joy:

Me too. It’s fucking Arsenal. We’ll smash them :grimacing:

I missed episodes, it seems :hushed:

Strange one, quite a few of his posts about tactical things actually made a lot of sense…

Reason to be proud as a Cypriot.
Anorthosis FC had some good moments in the champions league, drawing with Inter (my son’s personal coach was a defender for Anorthosis FC back then, marking Zlatan and keeping him goalless over both legs).
Apoel FC also had some great moments in the CL, beating Lyon in the penalties.
Hard to compete at top level, as budgets here are totally on a different scale, but still moments to be proud of the Cypriot teams.

Wonderful to see a fellow Cypriot Red here. LFC is who we support in common, I don’t actually support omonoia (except yesterday against Utd )

Cardiffpete
Total bullshitter.
But something of a sacred cow for a little bit on TIA.
I got into a lovely fun filled discussion with him when he compared Lucas to Clodoaldo, for ne many bridges too far.
And I got a warning for my troubles.

Anyway,
Liverpool win

Arsenal are flying high at the top, playing well, and with a bit more steel about them too. We have been stumbling along, looking leggy, dropping points everywhere, and mentally it has looked like a hangover from last season, after going so close to immortality.

So what to make of this one?

A Liverpool win, obviously! But why?

Because we need it more, and there was a small sign last time out that we were remembering that we are a bloody good team. We are still nowhere near our best, but I am hopeful that we are at least moving in a better direction now.

I’m strongly on the 4231 bus, based on the midfielders and attackers we have. I’m happy with Henderson and Thiago as the two, but if Fabinho gets the nod and plays as he can, that’s more than fine by me.

As for the spearhead, I want it to be Darwin Nunez. He needs to play to find his rhythm and to learn to link up with his teammates. Arguably he could be an impact sub, so long as it isn’t in the 89th minute again, but I’d prefer him to start. If he catches fire and clicks with his teammates, we will kick on as a team. Persist.

The three is a tough call. Diaz and Mo seem givens for the wider positions. Then you could make a case for Jota, Firmino and Carvalho in the middle.

I would probably give the nod to Firmino, as Jota can split minutes with Nunez, or Jota can come on for Bobby after an hour or so. Mind you, in time, I think Carvalho will come to the fore here, but probably not for this game.

There are a few decisions on personnel, but I really think 4231 is the way to go. 433 has had way too many gaps this season, and Arsenal’s pace will exploit that easily.

Even if we play well this will be a tough game, as this is a different Arsenal team now.

Still, I’m going 3-1 Liverpool. Nunez, Salah, and Diaz. Martinelli for them.

Melo injured. Amazing.

It’s not like he was going to feature anyway, so what does it matter?

We’ve got our main midfielders for this season back anyway we can send him back after the World Cup.

Do we need a new grounds curator?

To be fair, I’d tell Dane the exact same thing.

Thiago did not train today.

Can we not have him for one season where is fully fit for at least 30 of the matches in one season . I am frustrated, so what is the point have an injury prone genius. We need him now more than ever!! Uff!

Those who know how to play, don’t need to train all the time.

Yeah, unbelievable. I had a wee chuckle to myself about that. Just our luck! The mans played 2 U21 games and trained, but manages to get injured. What are the odds !
