Pre and In Match | Manchester United v Liverpool | PL Match Day 3 | Monday August 22th 20:00h | Old Toilet

Said at start that Man Utd set up for this counter. Lofted balls to exploit the space.

We need to get Salah more involved, which means letting him come in more, rather than being the one who is providing the width.

If Fab comes on, will allow Henderson or Elliot to do those triangles with Mo and TAA.

I’m not overly worried yet. Loads of time, and we’ve been by far the better team for the last 25-30 mins of the half.

But these slow starts are fucking killing us. Seventh game in a row we’ve gone one down, and it’s simply unacceptable that this is not being sorted.

The other major concern is that Milner, very suddenly, looks like a 36 year old trying to get through the work of a 25 year old. It looks a bit too hard for him.

In a slightly better vein, Elliott has again looked snappy and quick witted. Some footballer we have on our hands. Diaz is again the brightest spark, despite being clearly targeted with rough treatment. Would really like to see him run at Dalot and Varane now both have yellows.

The change I’d be looking at at half time is Milner off for Fab, and somehow see if we can make Elliot and Hendo work as the eights.

Exactly this.

Tactically we are all over, why is Bobby deep in the middle and Diaz and Salah on the touch line, seems all at odds with eachother.

Yeah, we don’t have fantastic options though. I think the only thing Klopp can really change is the mentality and the fight and perhaps formation.

Salah has to be through the middle. Way too predictable first half but the last 10 provided some encouragement. Reminds me a lot of the OT game from 2019-20 where we looked nowhere like scoring for most of the game before Lallana provided us with arguably his best moment in a red (white) shirt, I’d take a 1-1 like then.

Anyway, something needs to change. United won’t start the 2nd half the way they finished the 1st.

Salah and Diaz are our best two players. Get them the ball nearer the opposition goal. If we have to make subs or change formation for that to happen then do it.

Seeing Diaz pick the ball up from the touchline 5 yards into the United half is as frustrating as watching Firmino being deeper than our #6. It’s far too easy to defend against, surely this isn’t the plan.

I dearly hope there’s a lot of improvement mate, not just at this game.

For me the goal is on VVD including his slip shod organization of the defence early on…

If that offer from Juve is still on the table, can we bite their hand off and sign someone like Tielemans please?

Diaz is the only one I wouldn’t hook!

We should lay off Milner. Man Utd are playing like a team possessed - the frauds, leaving this level until we show up - so yes, Milner is getting overrun a bit, but the durability of others like Thiago, Fabinho, Keita, Jones and Ox is what is letting us down.

We are down to the faithful old stalwart, but it seems misplaced to have a pop at him, when half a dozen others can’t even get their frail bodies onto the pitch, or at least into consideration for a starting spot.

VDB for Elliott.

Never known …in a long time…our players argue with each other…bicker, and just have no fight…its more than injuries…something is going wrong…is it something at the training ground…we’ll probably never know…

I agree but I want to see how well he covers the space that TAA leaves, or who is doing that. We get exposed too often from that lack of cover.

Yep the pretty lady had said it all.

Our standards? By Accrington Stanley’s standards we’ve been shit!

Yeah, that’s the crux for the time being. It’s really strange and I can’t figure out why they don’t try to come inside. They behave as if they played as wingers in a 442, but there is no-one in that central area to put pressure on the center backs. It’s almost as if they had forgotten that Nunez isn’t on the pitch tonight, and Bobby isn’t and will never be a classical number nine.

For me a 6 stops threats and helps to dictate play and he hasn’t he has only got involved when we push past the halfway line and not by being an option from the back. We need players that are technically better in midfield that are more press resistant as our CB’ s don’t have outlets. How we miss Thiago, althought Elliot is doing well when in possession

I don’t think a Milner-Henderson midfield has ever really worked, even when they are/were both at their best they were too similar.

It looked like Virgil and Joe just getting to know each other again.
