I think Brighton have dropped back significantly after their loss. It’s a bit of an odd competition as you don’t find out all the competitors until December. It’s quite possible that you will get 8 Noddy teams dropping out of the CL but it’s perfectly possible that you could get a couple of big names who have a mare in the group stages.
Even as a betting man I’d never ever put money to pick which team would win the Europa, too many interferences and the longer you leave it the worst the odds get. We might be 3/1 now but come the knockout phase it’ll be more evenly split out amongst the 3rd placed CL teams and we’ll be closer to 1/1.
For 1 you have no idea the teams that’ll drop down, too many teams that end up in the quarters are too closely matched for quality (take last season…how can you pick a winner out of Juve Sevilla Roma Utd Bayer Sporting Feyenoord etc)…what Sevilla have done is remarkable but it definitely isn’t as easy as people think they’ve made it to win this competition.
All the more reason to get on us now then.
Nah, you say it’s generous…for me it’s still risky, plus I never bet on my own team either way…I still have a pessimistic mindset and think we’ll falter somewhere along the way.
Might put a few bob on West Ham and Brighton both to win their groups though…coming in at 5.4/1 that. West Ham, Brighton and Betis treble 13/1. Now that’s what I call generous.
Plenty of variables in the Europa especially when the trash from CL get in
With the possible exception of Real Madrid, whoever drops out of the Champions League will be more scared of us than we will be of them.
I’ll be fucking scared of Sevilla if they do get their arses in Europa. Shit team but somehow they always get their heads together and play well
Sevilla been God-awful so far this season. Not sure they have it in em this year.
Still find it a load of bollocks that you drop into this competition if you get knocked out of the Champions League. Just makes it look like a second rate competition.
When we played manure in the EL in 2016, had manure dropped down from UCL?
Unless Sevilla drop down.
They do seem to get a bit of a hard on over winning this competition so would be very wary of having to face them.
No other club concerns me that much
If we play to our level, there’s only 3-4 CL teams who can live with us, and it’s likely they will stay in that competition. I think we should be confident about our chances in Europa.
Confident, never arrogant, mind. Teams without the money and glamour will want to show they can play, so we will have to earn it the hard way.
I’ve come to terms with being in the Europa now. It’s the best trophy we can win, after the Prem. It’s the only one Klopp hasn’t won with us. So bring it on!
And there’s a sense that as Klopp 2.0 gets rolling, this will give us a chance to blood some players and build up their European mojo, while we also, hopefully, make an almighty push for a Prem challenge.
Tbf no one would’ve envisaged them winning the EL last season after the season they had, bottom 5 for for a couple of months and only spent few weeks in the top half…
Sevilla’s whole season seems to be built around trying to win the EL
Fify
For me it definitely is…I would have zero interest in it if we were in the CL.
Thursday night football in some Eastern European backwater. No thanks.
I’ve got zero interest in this year’s CL.
Neither have I …or the Sherpa Van trophy.
If you remember the original UEFA Cup, it was all the best teams in Europe that weren’t domestic league or cup winners. They rather ruined it by making the Champions League a competition where you didn’t have to be league champions.
