The biggest reason why I think Nyoni should be starting games, is that he is the only midfielder we have who’s instinct is to be behind the ball.
This might be a “safer” match to try a different midfield. I would drop Dom and put Trey, Grav and Mac in and see whether a more disciplined midfield might provide a different dynamic.
So you’d like to see Dom and Flo dropped?
I think it’s too early for that sort of playing around.
Dom says he prefers being deeper, let him show that he can be better deeper, I think he can.
I’d like to see more of Trey however atm I’m for showing confidence in our new manager so he decides when and where.
Alexis can play anywhere in midfield so should be either in the team or one of our first replacements.
Ryan needs to indicate he can pass.
In other words most of our midfielders need more discipline and time to adjust to the system. The only one that looks the part atm is Trey however he needs to be eased in. That’s so much the coaches and managers decision I don’t think we should be commenting until it looks silly (like Rio with Slot).
Tbh I like the lineups people have been posting, with Nyoni in midfield and potentially with Dom RB, or Frimpong.
Looking forward to it.
I agree with moving Dom to RB, if only out of the hope that he and Wirtz stop trying to occupy the same spaces.
I want Wirtz to be our metronome. When he touches the ball, good things are likely to happen.
Let Dom spray the ball from the right ala Trent, or start the counter with Munoz. He can keep free kicks, too.
Andoni looks and sounds like a happy bunny now all the transfer nonsense is over doesn’t he.
Best news out of that press conference is that Barcola may be involved, Gomez is due back in training next week and Leoni, at last, is due back in the next two weeks. Can’t wait to see him.
Won’t be able to watch this one, my team kicks off their season at the same time, but it would be nice to see Nyoni get a chance to start.
Iraola’s press conference breakdown in body language.
- Bradley Barcola right mentality - Positive shake of his head, its confirmed, Barcola has the right mentality, but is it for the right reasons? Check next point.
- Bradley Barcola wanted Liverpool - Negative shake of his head indicating that there were tons of other teams he wanted and is probably off the RM or Barca at first opportunity.
- Cody is a smart player - Raising of eyebrows, signalling uncertainty. Maybe they played chess together and he sucked?
- Cody performed with us very well - Raising of one eyebrow, signalling questioning of attitude. Cody obviously doesn’t want to be here and his attitude sucks as does his chess skills.
- Talking about players on the right side - Mixed signals, Bradley a NO, which probably means his effectiveness on the left outweighs his right side quite significantly. Rio is a YES for right side only because there is no way he will be closer than 3rd choice on the left.
- Happy with the 4 wingers - Negative shake of his head, most likely referring to his disapproval on the right side as the left is stacked.
- Players on the market when looking at price - lots of hand movement away from his body, indicating that he want to distance himself from those decisions because they were stupid and he was under the impression that Liverpool had Amazon money to spend, only for him to realize all the options were sourced from China.
- When talking about the squad he has at close of window - Shrugging thereby indicating lack of control over the transfer issues leading to a squad that is lacking in certain areas, and he told the power that be and they flat out ignored him, reminding him that he has Chiesa, so stop being greedy.
- Focus on starting stronger in the games - Slapping back of hand against palm of other hand emphasizing that this is the key thing, if the team doesn’t do this against Ipswich then there is going to be hell to pay, and players that are not performing will be going to reserves via Amazon Prime one day shipping.
- Joe will start training next week - rub of face so lot of uncertainty in that statement or he had an itch. There is no reason why he couldn’t have an itch, and he believes that it doesn’t matter when Joe starts training again because unfortunately its a tossup how long he will be fit for.
- Victor on the right - multi-gestures showing he is very happy with his play on this side, and he likes all Spanish players which is why Jones was sold and Harvey was loaned out.
On Szob, I saw a stat against Forest, the great news was he contested 21 duels excellent effort, the bad news was he only won 8, ![]()

BTW the stats were running alongside the pre match press conference.
1-1
We both know the weaknesses of Szoboszlai. We also know he can iron them out. It will take the coaches time and effort from him.
I mean he jumps out of tackles however as we have discussed before it’s not the tackle that counts the most it’s the effect the duel has on play. If he hounded rather than over commit we would probably be a lot happier and the opposition would score fewer goals.
I’m no fan of how Szoboszlai has been left to become ineffective however I hope Iraola will set things straight.
The stats you give is the problem our midfield they might work hard but they are ineffective the lot of them.
Good Luck!
Perhaps you could start a thread so we can follow your team’s progress this season?
Real pressure to get 3 points here. If we end up 6 or 7 points behind Arsenal and City after 3 games it will be a fucking sorry state of affairs.
Araujo at RB, Tsimikas at LB. Munoz to start again.
A thread about everyone’s grassroots team (either playing or coaching) would be interesting to me I love hearing about grassroots sports - I’d definitely contribute if one existed.
3-1 liverpool win…
Isak 2 goals, wirtz 1 goal 1 assist, Gakpo 1 assist
Worried about Enciso between the lines when we just leave an absolute ocean of space there in games.
Our control of that area is where we will win or lose this game.
It about 38C and I’m missing the match tonight as we’re having some people over… Not quite an ideal end to the week but oh well.
I’m looking forward to the match and hoping that we see a consistency in our pattern of play and in our intensity. In particular it would be great if we had fewer disconnects between the defense and the rest of the team. To that end, whichever of the 2 picked from Dom, Trey, Mac and Grav, I hope we see more discipline and quickness in the play.
Of course I’m also eager to see how Barcola gets on. In fact, rather then the last 15-20 min, I rather see him from the start, for about 50-60 min and see how he gets on.
