Paying the 20%* of the player’s salary that should have come from ticket sales?

*ish

Damn me for sensible answers.

Gonna watch this on Galavision in Spanish today. Don’t speak Spanish, apart from a word or two to order food and greet people… but watching the footy with Spanish-Mexican commentary adds to the excitement. Work now, leave early, watch the mighty reds with my lad. Biggest decision in these parts will be whether 3pm is too early for a beer.

Come on!

Angelino out is quite a blow for them, I don’t think they have another player for LWB like him. Might put more focus on some other areas. Forsberg is back though, he can bring something different between the lines off the bench.

Usually yes, the four man midfield would be diamond, as per cardiffpete’s narrative “essay”- he was telling stories about ajax most of the time though, but probably did mention the Milan team too.

But in this case it wouldn’t be diamond, as the width would be provided by the fullbacks that have entered in the midfield four (with Fabinho dropping back to join the two CBs), so quite an attacking gung-ho 3-4-3 formation here. Very cynical too, never mind old or gitty. :stuck_out_tongue:
Well if you don’t score, do something about it, right?

If we don’t get any European footy next year then there has to be a clearout. Out of those named the only one I would definately be looking to move on is Ox. I feel bad for him but he looks done, it’s 2 years since his injury and he just isn’t the same player. Harsh but true.
I’d play Keita every game between now and the end of the season. If he stays fit then it’ll be like a new signing. If he doesn’t I’d be looking to sell him.
Assuming Virgil comes back then Matip and Gomez will be fighting for that 2nd CB spot with either Kabak or Phillips 4th choice. I quite like Nat and wouldn’t be disappointed to see him stay and fill in when needed, FA and Caraboa Cup and the odd PL game but he may well want to move down a level and play more regularly. Same with Shaq, feel he still has something to offer.
I’d replace Gini with Grujic. Not like-for-like but with Hendo, Fabinho, Keita and Tiago we are still strong in midfield without having to spend. Bring back Elliot in Ox’s place.
Assuming one of the front 3 moves on - and I’m not convinced that will happen - that’s the area where we need to spend big. We need to either sell Divock or shoot him, I’m past caring.

The list of players who might find themselves surplus or looking to move on is pretty long.

Adrian
Phillips
R Williams
Kabak
Milner
Gini
Wilson
Grujic
Keita
Ox
Shaq
Minamino
Origi

Will be interesting to see who survives the cull.

Anyway, it’s the pre-match thread so Up The Fucking Reds!!

Yes, this will really impact the nature of the game heavily. Previous game I thought their most dangerous moments came from his efforts, so not having that in a game where they have to score at least two is definitely a huge factor. Also, it helps Trent, who can attack more, as opposed to having to play more cautiously in order to not leave the space empty for Angelino to roam.

How does a 19 tear old get on the list of suplus to requirements. Surely he would just get on some loan to good team list?

Not the slumpbuster today, that shirt didn’t want to come out to play. So my choice was the Coutinho jersey which was brought to me from my scouser friend from his trip home to visit family in 2014.

Disclaimer: Firmino is my favourite player in this team and I do believe form is temporary and class is permanent, he’ll be back next season. But currently, we need goals and his form is not helping.

One thing that makes me optimistic is that with the new front three of Mane-Jota-Salah, they are more interchangeable (one thing Firmino can’t do we’ll is play wide, as to enable one of Salah or Mane to play centrally), as any of them playing up front could benefit: Mane’s lack of scoring may be helped if Jota plays left and Mane moved centrally. Jota centrally would be more clinical than with Firmino, and as he would provide the main danger, it would free up space differently than what an in-form Firmino provides (but currently not). Salah centrally has also happened with some success, which widens the options.
Since our previous front three didn’t look like scoring easily, Jota’s return may be coming in just the right time. As for the Fulham game not showing any potential for the above, it was Jota’s first game after his return, and we were only playing with 4 starting XI players, both of which must have made it difficult to bear fruit. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping.

He appears to be chronically slow so will never make it in a Klopp team.

Nonsense! Anyway I’ve been over this enough times. He seems a lot faster than me.

I hope:

  • We’ll see Fab in the midfield to help out full backs and try to protect our centrebacks.
  • Bob finally scores… something
  • Salah and Sadio stop overthinking and simply blast the bloody ball into net.
  • Scott Jones smokin’ some weed.
