Pre Match | Liverpool vs Leipzig | CL Round of 16 2nd leg | Wednesday March 10th 20:00h | Puskas Arena

Among other notable observations, too numerous to mention here, the poet Dryden (1631-1700) once said that mighty things from small beginnings grow, and all thinking men are agreed that in making this statement he was spot on.

So, as a consequence of the abject failure of all our tried and trusted platitudes, we have decided to turn over a new leaf, and to embrace a fresh beginning, albeit a small one. As Boudica remarked, performing the same rituals over and over again had become tedious; the constant repetition akin to sado-bestial necrophilia.

It’s like flogging a dead horse.

So a new shibboleth is required. We shall burn the candle at both ends as it’s back to the blackboard in our search for a new and winning cliché, after all there is more than one way to skin a cat. By hook or by crook, we shall not fall by the wayside in an attempt to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. And though we might be flat as a pancake, down on our luck and between a rock and a hard place, we are determined to leave no stone unturned as we put our best foot forward and go out on a limb to bite the bullet, bend over backwards, put our shoulders to the wheel and our noses to the grindstone, whilst keeping our ears to the ground and one foot in the grave, in our quest for the next vapid expression, the latest trite remark. Be it a familiar tune, or a hoary old chestnut, we will work like a dog, enduring all trials and tribulations, until we are over the hump, out of the woods and bring home the bacon, even if it takes until the cows come home.

Remember, nothing ventured nothing gained, opportunity doesn’t knock twice, and a nod’s as good as a wink to a blind horse.

We are not fishing for compliments, nor seeking a feather in our caps, much less fifteen minutes of fame, nor to we expect to line our pockets or feather our nest.

Unfortunately, thus far we have drawn a blank. No new banality, fresh as a daisy, suggests itself, no innovative prosaism has hit the mark or might be considered a force to be reckoned with. Nothing that might help us keep a clean slate.

So, even though it go against the grain, and might open a can of worms, for what it’s worth we go full steam ahead, and pin our hopes on:

This game has all the makings of a potential banana skin! (well someone had to say it)

I’ll take a scrappy 1-0 win to us. :astonished:

A world record in the use of metaphors. I had to look up the word Shibboleth, and I’m British (sorry European).

Actually, I think that’s OK. I’m kind of happy with that lineup, in the circumstances.

Who is H Davies?

Problems at CB are much more worrying to me than the need of having Fabinho back in midfield. It’s priorities and team balance, simple as that.

In fact, I was already thinking about who else we might play there out of position. I think we can cope sometimes with 1 young/new player there. But two in a high profile game…

2 CB with Fab as DM. Effectively this can be a back 3. I’m curious to see whether it works.
