I don’t like Millie deeper in a double pivot. With Fabinho alongside him and Bobby in front of them, that’s a bit too slow.

I don’t think we do a double pivot though. I think Bobby plays on the left side of a 3-man midfield and Millie covers Trent on the right. But Bobby plays a bit more advanced and Fab will need to be aware of that. Robbo may not be able to get as high up in the play but i think that attacking impetus that Bobby would provide could help up top with chance creation.

I think there’s a limit just how deep is best for Bobby and then for the team as well. If he plays as a #10, he plays as a #10. I don’t want him messing in the (higher) #8 zone. If we go with the 4 attackers from the start, then I simply expect Fabinho and Gini at the base (potentially Fab at CB for Nat and then Thiago in, but that might be the way we end the game, “throwing the kitchen sink”). But I think the first mission for Klopp will be to establish much better principles than in the first game and then build from there as much as we can.

Come on Jurgen, it’s that day when you say to the players…
"It looks impossible, but if there’s anyone who can do it, it’s you "

I feel it’s the first time in many , when the players seem to have more belief going in to the game…than the fans.

Get your “Never give up” gear out…I bet Madrid wouldn’t know what just happened. I believe and it ain’t over till it’s over.

Come on Redmen !!

Anyone going to the King Harry pub?

Looking forward to some scenes from there at least.

I don’t give us anything remotely to a good chance to advance, but I do expect our team to give absolutely everything, which I think they will. Very unlikely that will be enough due to our erratic, and usually, let us face it, bad form, but I am pretty sure it will be entertaining.
But football is a game of surprises, so it is absolutely possible that we can enact a minor miracle. It has happened before and will happen again. But I do not expect to be happy late tonight.

Bit surprised by the negativity to be honest. It’s the Champions League. We’ll beat them like a drunk step-dad.

Yeah, I kinda hate this giving up even before the game started.

I don’t know how, but I feel there is only one outcome tonight:

We’re winning this cunt.

Personally, I am just careful with my expectations and trying to be objective to myself. This because it is better to be positively surprised than the opposite, so I don’t want to gear myself up, but instead I try to calmly assess our actual chances for advancement. This is because I want to protect myself, because it hurts to be disappointed. Better then to try to be sober with the expectations, because if we then actually advance, my happiness and feeling of euphoria will be all the greater.
This works for me…

I’ve always thought the #10 role (attacking mid) played higher than #8 (box to box). I’m very likely wrong though. Bobby’s defensive abilities, ball control and vision have always struck me as a natural #10.

We agree on that, I just said that I don’t think Bobby can be as good from one of the two #8’s like he is either as a false #9 or single #10.

Refuse to listen to any of the negative shite, some people must have only just started following this club and don’t know what we are capable of.

There is a game on tonight, make no mistake.

Come on Redmen

There is a point beyond which the human brain loses its kinship with the Infinite and becomes a mere seething mass of deleterious passions. Consequently, as mentioned immediately following the villa game, the Mem and I have decided to pension off our pre-match κατα λωτωνιον.

No more will the forum be burdened with my tedious ramblings regarding Boudica’s bloody comings and goings. All may sleep sound abed, content in the knowledge that they no longer risk falling foul of the Mem’s wrath or fearing her vengeance; the cohort of the damned now disbanded.

That said I cannot let its demise go without correcting one final terminological inexactitude perpetrated by @Klopptimist, namely his comments regarding the stabling of the Mem’s fire breathing unicorns in his attic.

Apparently Klopptimist (of whom it has been said that he has just about enough intelligence to open his mouth when he wants to eat, but certainly no more), is untutored in the ways and means of the occult, for otherwise he would surely know that it is impossible to house fire breathing unicorns in an attic.

As the only arboreal member of the genus hippokerasphoros, the fire breathing unicorn roosts exclusively in the semi-mythical Gopherwood tree. A small pod of said beasties, and the only one extant in the region, abides within the copse contiguous unto the boundary of the south meadow (despite the Mem’s best endeavours).

And now, having over the past years and months crammed enough variegated lunacy to equip all the March Hares in England and leave some over for the Mad Hatters, we conclude with a slightly modified beatitude:

This game has all the makings of a potential banana skin! (well someone had to say it)

I’ll take a scrappy 2-0 win to us. :astonished:

Liverpool make one change for this evening’s game, with Sadio Mane coming back into the starting XI in place of Diogo Jota.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson, Fabinho, Milner, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, H. Davies, Thiago, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jota, Tsimikas, Shaqiri, B. Davies, R. Williams, Cain, Clarkson.

I guess it is a case of keeping it tight, and hitting them with the subs later on…?

Milner to kick lumps out of their midfield

Millie up against Modric, that will be fun.

3 years after Kiev and we have the same two 8’s in midfield.

I don’t understand the point of buying Thiago if you’re not going to start him in the competition he owned last year - especially after watching this same midfield get cut up by RM two weeks ago.
