Agreed, but I also think that it’s a much bigger problem than just missing Mane. After all, he has played most games this season and most games have been as bad as this, slightly worse, or slightly better. Then we have those games like Crystal Palace and Tottenham where we look like last season’s Liverpool, but they have been the extremely odd game.
I think our passing at the back and through midfield has been sharp and crisp but the movement and effort from the front 3 has been lacking and our attacks are dieing, no one is threatening their back line with runs apart from Milly
A decent first half where we’ve had some good passages of play. Just need to quicken the pace of passing to start dragging WHU out of their shape. A bit disappointed with Big Div. He seems to jib a lot of challenges when it seems to me that it’s in his favour to win it.
Salah is the only one making any runs up top and they are marking him out of the game because there is no one else. Shaq has been shit as well but at least there is some urgency about him.
Not a bad game to be fair, although clear chances have been rare until now. With this 442 diamond, Klopp has clearly chosen the patient approach: starve them off the ball, build up the moves going through the whole midfield, and wait for an opening.
The problem for us is that there has been no opening. Shaq on the ball has been good and precise, as well as Thiago, but there is not enough movement and penetration upfront for me. Big Div tries to be on the end of moves, but without success so far, and Salah looks a bit lost amidst a whole lot of defenders watching him all the time.
On the defensive side, we look solid enough. Antonio hasn’t had a sniff and the Hendo/Phillips pair has done the job so far, also on the few, potentially dangerous set pieces.
All we can hope for is that the West Ham legs will tire and that we’ll get more space for our attacks. Also, Bobby coming in could give us more penetration upfront.
Let’s wish for the three points, our lads are more than capable to beat this West Ham side today. Fingers crossed!!!
Lets hope so Bro. He doesn’t disappoint me because I except he’s very very average (being kind). He can be a flash in the pan and can do something super, more often than not he lumbers around looking half arsed, gives it away or is knocked around like a fly weight. Thats Div, always has been. It’s why he goes on loan and does nothing, its why he’s 5th choice behind Mo, Bobby, Sadio and Jota. He’s not even good enough for that and had Taki been even average he wouldn’t be getting a look in at all.
Shaq has disappointed me more because he is a quality player who could be a regular contributor to the team but seems way off the pace at the moment.
Phillips done well. Dominant with headers, beating Soucek when West Ham do the typical direct ball from the back.
Speaking of which, Origi should be on that West Ham free man at the back to put pressure on - all first half the West Ham player was free to take his time to launch the ball - only takes one error and they’ll be in on goal.
Origi done some things good, but my oh my, he is lazy. Salah pressing running 20 metres from right to the centre when Origi is standing there only 5 metres away from the player.
Taking the biscuit moment - around 30 mins I think. Ball rolled on the floor towards Origi on the left. Origi starts to walk bakwards from the ball coming to him, so all Coufal has to do is step in front of Origi.
Having said that, Origi has tried run runs off the shoulder so there is hope. Would like to see Bobby on asap though.
Shaq playing tip of diamond in a classic 10 position at times, but he needs to do more.
all true, but we are at our best when he is in there… what we need is continuity because of the difficult month we have had… we seem to have kicked on the last two weeks. so missing mane is a big deal as we cant build on that positivity
Two players stick out form me.
Phillips who will have Antonio in his pocket soon (a little resistance from Antonio but it’s almost there).
Origi who needs to speed up to make a difference.
It’s a good match, West Ham are good and we are very good. Only thing missing is a goal or 10 for us.
Slating origi .
He just doesn’t look match fit coz he hasn’t had any game time .
He’s doing ok , same with Shak ox and minimo , not enough game time over the past 19 games .
