PreMatch | Watford - Liverpool | PL Match Day 8 | Saturday October 16th 12:30h | Anfield

Great news.

Still want Bobby to start.

I always think it’s worth considering the players who have had two weeks off during the international break, they ‘should’ have much more energy and focus for this game. Firmino, Origi, Milner, Gomez and Konate should all be in with a shout, maybe even Ox.

Watford team news by WhoScored:

  • Watford sacked Xisco Munoz before the break and appointed former Chelsea and Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri. It remains to be seen how Watford will line-up here.
  • Centre-backs Christian Kabasele and Francisco Sierralta are out for the next couple of weeks. Nicolas Nkoulou signed on a free during the break and may be required right away.
  • Daniel Bachmann got minutes during the international break and will challenge Ben Foster for a place in goal.
  • Joao Pedro earned minutes as a substitute before the break and could make his first start of the season here with King a major doubt.

Me too but I have the feeling Klopp has never started Milner after international breaks

Origi?
Don’t think so.

I’m updating my status from ‘preparing for abject misery’ to ‘we should smash these, they’re shite’.

Good news generally on the availability front, think it will be Kelleher, TAA, Matip + any one of the other three, Robbo. Henderson, Jones, Milner with Mo, Mane and Bobby up top.
These look poor and have a few missing. Dropping more points here will be very disappointing.

So we’re finally back to proper football…

One match at a time lads.

Watford are good but not good enough to take us…

We stay composed and focused we can walk away with three points.

Doesn’t really matter who lines up or who’s on the bench.

We might not get the goal less position but right now points count.

So Alisson and Fabinho are allowed to play Watford now but won’t make it in time?!

They were always allowed… but it’s the schedule this time.

We play on Saturday 12:30h, they play on early Friday 1:30am.

By the time they arrive in Liverpool and settle/rest, we will be already in London.

stop flattering yourself.

I assume if they might just meet up with the team in London, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them behind the bench on Saturday.

Ranieri will just want to not lose his first game. He can’t possibly have had time to scrutinize his players yet so I can’t see anything except a bus parking exercise from them. That scuppered us against 10-man Chavs, but hopefully we’ve got enough to get through against Watford.

I think Alisson might have a chance.

So, what do we think now? Less than 48 hours to go.

Looks like Kelleher, Trent, Matip, VVD? Robbo/Tsimikas, Hendo, Milly? Naby? Curtis? (What’s with Thiago?), Sadio, Bobby/Jota? Mo.

Plenty of question marks.

Jota is ready. Curtis might be too. Thiago is out.

Kelleher
Trent Matip VvD Robbo
Milner Henderson Keita
Salah Firmino Mané

We asked Watford for a move of the game to a later kickoff. They refused unsurprisingly.

Couple of things:

Thread starter keeps the streak going, that’s my understanding. If we lose, another person starts the next one. If they don’t open the thread in a timely manner, fine, someone else jump on it. Not a big deal, as everyone acknowledges, but little niggles have a way of mounting up, so best to be aware of these guidelines, even if we aren’t going as far as to say it’s a rule.

Next thing is Watford. Ideally they would play later, but I don’t blame them for refusing our request. If both teams are fit and firing, we should win the game as we have the better side. So they will naturally take anything that gives them an edge as the gift it is. And if we have players coming back from a long trip at the last minute, that is Watford’s good fortune.

At that point it is on the Prem to step in, but if we have been watching closely, they won’t do that. Big teams beating smaller teams is expected. If the smaller team has a win, it adds to the claim of “best league in the world” and attracts a bit of attention, so the Prem will happily not help out, as other leagues routinely do.

On the game itself, Sarr is a dangerous player. Fast, strong, direct, adding a bit more of a goal threat as he grows too. So watch out for him.

Any win will be welcome. If we find rhythm and win well, lovely! But I’m expecting a below par performance, and the need to dig deep to win.
